24.01.2022 Poona’s Parks & Gardens Group attacked some of the gardens in Market Alley today. Lex & Sue beavered away removing old tired plants & had a big replant. Mike & Darryl added another stool to the foreshore. Enjoy Poona, our small band are working hard to add a little joy to your lives.

24.01.2022 The Parks and Gardens volunteer group has been stood down indefinitely. There is no time frame. But there is no reason why we can't still do a bit of weeding or watering as needed on an individual basis. If you see something that needs attention, get in touch and we will work something out.

23.01.2022 Working bee Task; to install bollards to delineate native plant regeneration area at the entrance to Poona, under the powerlines. This is simply a barrier so that this small area will not be slashed in future and native flowering shrubs can be allowed to grow. When; 7 am, Wed Oct 23. Meet at the hall

21.01.2022 A couple of new trees in market alley. Small beginnings but great potential.

17.01.2022 Poona Parks & Garden Volunteers beavered away today painting 55 timber fencing panels along Snapper Drive & mulched most of the gardens in Market Alley. 9 volunteers did a total of 27 1/2 hours, think all went home for a well deserved cold shower. Cheers Sue Hart

14.01.2022 A great working bee today in Market Alley. Lots of weeding, raking and pruning and some decaying bollards replaced. Marvellous how much can be achieved by a group of willing workers. It will look brilliant again when we get some rain.

11.01.2022 The Poona crew of Council volunteers planted the entrance to Poona this morning early then after a cuppa headed down to Eric Coe Park to clean up the gardens. Great effort & a wonderful crew. Cheers Sue H

10.01.2022 Join the Parks & Garden Group tomorrow morning ( Wednesday 26 February)7am at the Poona Community Hall, we are replanting the entrance to Poona then sprucing up Eric Coe Park.

09.01.2022 This Illawarra Flame tree in Market Alley is nearly at its best. There are another 3 younger trees in the park that should start flowering in a year or two. Certainly one of our best native trees.

05.01.2022 Poona Community Parks & Garden Volunteers delineating the revegetation area & tidying up the Poona entrance gardens ready for replanting. A great morning.

03.01.2022 Next Poona Parks and Gardens working bee is Wednesday January 29. Meet at the hall at 7.00 am. We will be working in Snapper Drive and Market Alley. New members always welcome.

02.01.2022 If you heard a mulcher in Market Alley this morning, it was a Council crew removing a Livistonia palm. The tree had a massive hole at the base of the trunk and was deemed a risk. A new tree, a Lacebark (Brachychiton discolour), which is a cousin to the Illawarra Flame Tree, has been planted between the two rosemary beds. It is a couple of metres tall and was grown from tubestock purchased from the Landcare nursery at Gympie about 18 months ago. Market Alley is being tidied up in preparation for Anzac Day. Even though there will be no ceremony, the park will be accessible.

02.01.2022 Working bee, 9 am Wednesday. Tasks for the morning include further planting in Market Alley and installing another beach seat. Meet at the hall and don't forget to bring smoko.
