17.01.2022 Happy International Womens Day to all and sundry! Educating for equality is a fabulous first step, something everyone should be committed to. IWD provides the perfect opportunity to extend that into educating for equity, providing opportunities for discussion about how equality and equity differ. Go forth and educate!

11.01.2022 It may seem trivial, but collecting treasures is such an important part of early childhood! The lack of pockets for collecting treasures is just one way girls are disadvantaged by gender binary social expectations. I'll never forget being at a wedding and witnessing a young girl of about 4 yrs old being told off with great gusto by her dad for rolling around in the grass and "getting her pretty white dress all dirty", while her older brother- also in a white shirt, mind you- gleefully did the same and it didn't get a mention. I felt so sad for that young person. Until young girls are afforded the same opportunities as their male peers, from the clothes we provide all the way up, we will always be doing them a disservice and stifling their development.

03.01.2022 "Just ask me, 'What does your brain need right now?'..." This is so simple, and yet positioning children as the experts on their own needs is so rare. Expecting a classroom full of different brains to learn in the same way, at the same rate and by using the same techniques is an absurd notion. Yet this is our education model. We are failing our children in classrooms every day. Instead of unrealistic expectations designed to tick boxes, imagine a system that centralises relat...ionships, supports individual interactions to facilitate authentic and meaningful learning, and enables each child to be the boss of their own education adventure? Surely we can't sit still until this is the experience afforded to every child engaged in the education system?
