24.01.2022 Just got back to Exmouth after an unforgettable 3 weeks in NZ visiting friends and family with a few snappy hunts involved of course. Some super calm clear water with minimal movement making it hard at times but they still showed up to the party with moocha Monday producing a healthy 22 pounder for myself with a heap of other solid ones in the mix. 18.01.2022 Wednesday 25.09.19 went out for a "sniff" with @NateBrejnak on his boat White Unicorn for an early season blue marlin and ended up having an absolutely insane day seeing over 20 fish, going 6 from 10 on blues and having the pleasure to be on the rod for all 6 fish as he was fresh out of knee surgery! We had an encounter with one 350lb fish in particular that was so close to coming onboard it wasn't funny doing about 8 to10 sea churning leaps towards the boat right in my dir...ection on the port side transom while I'm clipping into the rod saying "he's coming in hes coming in" while Nates clearing gear then he looks over ......SHIT! As the fish lands pretty much underneath the outrigger hooks a slight left turn then begins to be superman again such an epic day Nate cheers bro Thursday 26.09.19 we went again on the unicorn with Rach onboard also but quiet for us that day had one up that had multiple goes at the Bonze Lures scorpion but couldn't stay connected. That Thursday night Aaron Rampling helped get Poppa George 2 back up and running with a fresh service / refill n bleed the tilt ram just to get me back on the water and freeballz lending me a couple rods to use as mine where in maintenance mode....Cheers lads Friday morning I called Nate he was flogged out n Rach was "busy" so ohhhhwell we going solo again......shit went nek level catching 5 from 5! 11.01.2022 Cherry Pop! 28.9.19 had the bro Greeny come down to exmouth from Port Hedland for a holiday with his fam bam nek minute he's out wide on Poppa George 2 combing the depths with me for his first days marlin fishing and BOOM the trusty @bonzelures custom grimmel gets crushed off the long first pass through poppas honey hole and we got emm on.... fish did a few jumps out the back then dove down we had him boatside shortly after with Greeny having jelly legs as it was not exactl...y calm! Lure was in need of some love so deployed the ballistic and set off again doing the whole cheers and beers thing as you do when you graduate into the marlin club I informed Greeny he better get them legs back into decent operating form cause we'll be going again and I really wanted a hot one on the teasers to put on a show for him.....left teaser big boil behind the violator and a red hot blue climbing all over it you could not even have scripted this any better so pulled the teaser all the way to the first wave just a couple meters off the back of the transom said watch that lure.... split seconds later a huge violent crash bite right in front of our eyes before looping back round and inhaling the ballistic... 08.01.2022 About a year and a half too late but this is how you turn a pigs ear into a silk purse in 6 weeks.....or something along those lines anyway the making of Poppa George 2. A massive shout out to the bro Shannon Hoare who put a solid effort into this boat which in nov/dec in port hedland is literally deadly hot! 02.01.2022 After seeing Peak Sportfishing Adventures off it's head clip of that 1089lb blue animal the froth has set in something fierce so I thought I'd share a vid I had a crack at earlier in the year trying to do a slow mo clip with a rap song which was pretty hard, it wasn't even completely finished but lucky I exported it back then as I've lost the lot now and don't want to start another one as the season is nearly here! 01.01.2022 Marlin Grand Slam So after J Dawg and I got the monkey off our back the day before we came out and hooked a blue straight away then dropped it......ohhh hell no not this again haha Back into it and get a call from Eddy Lawler @peak_sportfishing letting me know they just let go a solid 500lb blue a few miles away and said it maybe worth a look so off we went. After another hour or so goes by.....right teaser a hot little stripe on the @bonzelures violator running short corn...er then switched it onto the ballistic and got emm on. After a short fight and nearly jumping in the boat he was on his way. Said to J Dawg well that's the stripe we might be on for a slam today jokingly. Another couple hours goes by and same same a blue which wasn't very fired up under the violator but managed to get a nibble on the ballistic and we on dawg this is the fish in the clip I just put up. By now J Dawg is getting the feel for the harness and we get it heaps quicker. We were that stoked about another blue I'd forgotten about the whole grand slam thing then late arvo.....crack! off goes the right rigger again with the trusty Islander and I was clearing gear and in the reflection of the sun see it jump out back....its a black boiiiii....this thing thought he was a fighter pilot he was taking to the skys that much which definitely didn't help the nerves and J Dawgs going off with excitement in the back we finally land him and the fish was so lit up with adrenaline was just amazing. 01.01.2022 Sunday Funday! Rachel and I went for a poke out wide on Sunday while the fleet were inshore having a blast on black marlin as the fishing has been red hot in close, but no one had really been fishing wide as the blues kinda vanished for some reason, but you never know until you go is my favourite saying.....well we definitely found out having a crazy and eventful day going 3 from 3 on blue marlin, with Rach catching her first blue on the Bonze Lures custom Grimmel, then a ni...ce healthy 350 pounder came in hot on the trusty kamakazi Trojan which gave Rach some work to do on the wheel as it was darting all over the place not making things easy but gave her some good practice at driving. We released that one and set the spread and cracked a beer then spun around and Boom! Huge crash bite on the violator running on the short teaser then it dropped back and piled on the Grimmel she was a nice fish and put on an amazing show for us. We boated her in just over an hour and tried to release her but she went belly up, then we swum her for another 20min but no good so I threw the Offshore Custom Sportfishing Rods by Rodwork NZ T Bar gaff in her and brought the fish in. She tipped the scales at 262.1kg/578lb Will make a great head mount and some good chewing! Big thanks to the Lads from Peak Sportfishing Adventures and the crew on Ballzdeep for the hand at the ramp, Ben Knaggs the weigh master and Exmouth Game Fishing Club - EGFC Pretty special day with Rachel and one that won't be forgotten!
