24.01.2022 There is nothing I would not do for those who are really my friends. I have no notion of loving people by halves, it is not my nature. Jane Austen, Northanger Abbey

24.01.2022 Miss Jaimi called me the other day to tell me all about these lovely books! They are truly gorgeous. I picked mine up at Kmart but Im sure your local book store would be thrilled to find you a copy too. Very much looking forward to finding ways to incorporate these into our curriculum. They tie in so beautifully with the Inspired Child Method. Thank you so much for spotting them @jaimikubat our Poppets are so lucky to have you!

24.01.2022 Happy Fathers Day! Enjoy this throwback to pre-covid, while we eagerly anticipate dancing however we like, again!

23.01.2022 Have you ever felt a little unsure about when to kiss-and-go, or whether your child really needs you to stay in class? We take our guidance from the Circle of Security, and watch for important signs so we know exactly what each child needs, in each stage of their journey with us! Find out more in our blog link in bio, or at www.poppetandgrace.com.au/blog Have you heard of the Circle of Security before? How have you seen it play out in other activities with your child?

23.01.2022 Jumping is a skill that develops over time and it’s a joy to watch our Poppets mastering it at various stages! To begin with, a jump may be more like a gallop-style step. Next, children can start to jump with feet apart, then with feet together.... Then as they master that, we can start to focus on individual aspects of the jump, such as pointing toes or landing softly. Jumping with proper technique is excellent for leg strength! Plus, aligning the legs and feet well when we land can help to prevent injuries in other sports as the children grow. A fun activity you can do at home with your Poppets to foster a love of jumping, as well as help to develop co-ordination, is hopscotch! You may have fond memories of playing hopscotch as a child, so why not pass on that gift to your child?!

22.01.2022 You seemed so far away, Miss Honey whispered, awestruck. Oh, I was. I was flying past the stars on silver wings, Matilda said. It was wonderful. Roald Dahl, Matilda @ Poppet and Grace

22.01.2022 The world is full of magic things, patiently waiting for our senses to grow sharper. W.B. Yeats

22.01.2022 Grown-ups never understand anything by themselves, and it is tiresome for children to be always and forever explaining things to them. Antoine de Saint-Exupéry, The Little Prince

20.01.2022 When did you last come across an unexpected reminder of your childhood, that instantly transported you back? This morning I came across the Centipedes Song from James and the Giant Peach, and I was surprised to find the delicious silliness of the rhymes still tucked away in my mind. I suspect its because my Mum read it aloud to my brother and me, more than once! We dont know which memories will stick in kids minds, but I have a suspicion it will be the moments we delight ...in them, and delight in the world together, that will have the most lasting impact. The Centipedes Song, Roald Dahl Ive eaten many strange and scrumptious dishes in my time, Like jellied gnats and dandyprats and earwigs cooked in slime, And mice with rice theyre really nice When roasted in their prime. (But dont forget to sprinkle them with just a pinch of grime.) Ive eaten fresh mudburgers by the greatest cooks there are, And scrambled dregs and stinkbugs eggs and hornets stewed in tar, And pails of snails and lizards tails, And beetles by the jar. (A beetle is improved by just a splash of vinegar.) I often eat boiled slobbages. Theyre grand when served beside Minced doodlebugs and curried slugs. And have you ever tried Mosquitoes toes and wampfish roes Most delicately fried? (The only trouble is they disagree with my inside.) Im mad for crispy wasp-stings on a piece of buttered toast, And pickled spines of porcupines. And then a gorgeous roast Of dragons flesh, well hung, not fresh It costs a pound at most, (And comes to you in barrels if you order it by post.) I crave the tasty tentacles of octopi for tea I like hot-dogs, I LOVE hot-frogs, and surely youll agree A plate of soil with engine oils A super recipe. (I hardly need to mention that its practically free.) For dinner on my birthday shall I tell you what I chose: Hot noodles made from poodles on a slice of garden hose And a rather smelly jelly Made of armadillos toes. (The jelly is delicious, but you have to hold your nose.) Now comes, the Centipede declared, the burden of my speech: These foods are rare beyond compare some are right out of reach; But theres no doubt Id go without A million plates of each For one small mite, One tiny bite Of this FANTASTIC PEACH!

18.01.2022 We are so, so thrilled to welcome Miss Jaimi to our Poppet team. Miss Emma and Miss Jaimi taught together many years ago, and are so thrilled to have such a dream team back together again (even if Emma does say so herself) Jaimi is not only a wonderful dance teacher, but also a spectacular singing teacher, a lover of learning and child development, and an avid reader. She has two daughters who love to dance, so we are sure youll see all three new faces around the studio soon. Check out her wonderful singing studio, @vocalising_official

13.01.2022 I feel that the essence of dance is the expression of man--the landscape of his soul. I hope that every dance I do reveals something of myself or some wonderful thing a human can be. Martha Graham

12.01.2022 Kids are both much more capable, and much less capable than we usually think. Children have the most amazing and creative ideas and fixes for problems, fun design ideas, and insightful things to say. Children can overcome huge challenges, be astoundingly kind and generous, and notice the most fascinating details many adults would miss. Children ask questions that can stump the most learned of educators, make amazing connections between ideas, and can have very serious, in-dep...ths discussions on a wild array of topics. Yet adults so often forget to ask kids opinions, dont care to notice the things they see, and talk down to them with simple language and simpler concepts. How can we ask them, let them have input, get their unique perspectives, share responsibilities (appropriately!) with them, and show them we value them as the amazing people theyre becoming? We have off-days, cranky days, get annoyed with colleagues, family or jerks in traffic. We feel scared sometimes, call in sick to work sometimes, forget things sometimes, and cut ourselves a break sometimes. We feel hard-done by and want to vent to a friend or spouse, feel hurt and want to be told its all okay, feel annoyed or burnt out and make changes to our schedules. We can change what we wear if we dont feel amazing in an outfit, stop to fix our shoes if our socks arent sitting right, or detour on the way home just on a whim. Yet so often kids are asked to always behave consistently, to not inconvenience grown ups with their emotions, to feel and act well if they dont look sick, not to sweat the things that adults think are little things, and to work to schedules they had no say over and cannot understand. How can we give them time and choice, to trust a little more, to listen a little more, to follow their lead a little more? Of COURSE we are adults and know that certain things have to get done. Bills need to be paid, you have to be at work on time, sometimes kids just have to take medicine whether they like it or not, and we need to keep them safe and healthy! Children have growing brains and bodies that arent always reasonable, or on time, or easy to understand, or logical. BUT kids are capable of both so much more, and so much less than society gives them credit for. And finding the mid-way, giving your child trust and understanding, will fill them to the brim with confidence and joy. What can we all do to help kids be the amazing little humans they are, by meeting them where they are REALLY at? https://www.poppetandgrace.com.au/blog/

10.01.2022 No wonder you can tell a ballerina by her posture! I particularly love small, intricate exercises like this, because it teaches that taking the time to make small refinements leads to big impacts. Learning to balance smart, efficient and consistent work is a skill for all of life, not just dance. . .... . #poppetandgrace #theinspiredchildmethod #balletwithpurpose #kindconfidentkids #inspiredchild #brisbanemums #brisbanekids #whatsonbrisbane #localislovely #brisbanemum #thelocalhunter #brisbanemumsclub #newfarm #jamesstbne #teneriffe #fortitudevalley #letthembelittle #growthmindset #abcbrisbane #myvillagenews #brisbanenews #brisbanenewsmagazine #newsteadbrisbane #parentinghacks #whatsonforkids #whatsonforkidsbrisbane #brisbanemumsnbubs #mdmmini #nfss

09.01.2022 Are you ready for a wonderful week?

08.01.2022 Q: Why do your pre-school classes always start by sitting in a circle on the floor? A: So many great reasons! It orientates the students and helps bring their focus in to the room. With so much of the world to take in, it’s important to welcome the students into our space and direct their energy to the fun ahead of them in class.... It helps make the room feel smaller! A standard size room for grown ups feels HUGE for little ones, so being in a circle with your friends and your teacher has a way of making the room feel that little bit smaller. Sitting in a circle promotes security and familiarity. Children thrive on routines and knowing what comes next... Once they feel comfortable, we can then incorporate new ideas and concepts into the class... But sitting in a safe circle is a great place to start! Do you have a question about why we do things a certain way in class? Pop it below so we can answer it for you

08.01.2022 What does it mean to unlock a childs potential? We think it comes down to five key things: Unconditional love for each child, cultivating a childs unique gifts, ... discovering each childs personal principles, giving kids the best mindset and life skills, and achieving key developmental milestones. It looks like this:

06.01.2022 Such hard working grade ones! Some kids are naturally very flexible, and some kids have to be really persistent and determined instead. But the more grit a skill requires to achieve it, the greater the feeling of accomplishment! As an adult, one of the best things I learnt from my own dance training was that, unless you get very, very lucky, you cannot be passive in the journey towards your goals.... You might start in a different place to someone else, and you might even arrive in a different place to someone else, and you might have different obstacles along the way. But these things are all okay, because you ARE in control of your approach, you are in control of your own choices, and you are even in control of which journeys you choose to take... and if you remember those things, its the striving that brings the most joy and contentment in the end, especially if youre striving alongside kindred spirits! . . . . #poppetandgrace #theinspiredchildmethod #balletwithpurpose #kindconfidentkids #inspiredchild #brisbanemums #brisbanekids #whatsonbrisbane #localislovely #brisbanemum #thelocalhunter #brisbanemumsclub #newfarm #jamesstbne #teneriffe #fortitudevalley #letthembelittle #growthmindset #abcbrisbane #myvillagenews #brisbanenews #brisbanenewsmagazine #newsteadbrisbane #parentinghacks #whatsonforkids #whatsonforkidsbrisbane #brisbanemumsnbubs #goaldigger #nfss

06.01.2022 If your Poppet cant read yet, we encourage you to read this to them as often as you can before class! if you have a big Poppet, go ahead and give them a nudge to read this before them come in!

05.01.2022 There’s nothing quite like the bond between a dancer and dance teacher. I’m not sure if it’s because we get to see each other grow and learn over the course of years, or because we get to celebrate so many tangible successes together, both big and little... or maybe it’s because there is a special respect that goes both ways in a dance class as each student makes the choice to try new things and take on challenges many times every lesson. Whatever the reason is, we are so happy to be part of that with your little one!

04.01.2022 You might have heard us talking about The Inspired Child Method its fundamental to what we do here at Poppet and Grace. But if you are new to our studio, you might like a quick intro to our unique way of teaching. In a nutshell, The Inspired Child Method (TICM) is how we nurture our students towards being curious, kind and courageous little humans. That is, we infuse all our lessons, and everything we do, with the method, to ensure your children learn to love learning, bec...ome self-assured in who they are and what they stand for, and seek to do good and be a positive impact on the world around them. We do this with a cycle of four steps, which, with practice, begins to feed itself, ensuring this is a lasting lesson for your little one, inspiring them far beyond the studio. The Inspired Child Method: Imagination Nurturing Principles Excellence The Method appears in many forms in the studio. We use it in every class with every child. It appears within each exercise as well. We use it for staff training, goal setting, and long term vision as well! In fact, we have found that the more we grow and evolve, the more the Method grows with us. For example, using the Method for each exercise within a class looks a little like this: [continued in comments]

01.01.2022 Look at these little ones getting into their flow! What are your favourite activities for getting into a flow state? Did you know there are many benefits to finding an activity that gets you into flow? People who have experienced flow, describe the following feelings:... 1. Completely involved in what we are doing focused, concentrated. 2. A sense of ecstasy of being outside everyday reality. 3. Great inner clarity knowing what needs to be done, and how well we are doing. 4. Knowing that the activity is doable that our skills are adequate to the task. 5. A sense of serenity no worries about oneself, and a feeling of growing beyond the boundaries of the ego. 6. Timelessness thoroughly focused on the present, hours seem to pass by the minute. 7. Intrinsic motivation whatever produces flow becomes its own reward. So! What else gets you into flow state? My oddest one is data entry, which I did as a job at uni Ive heard its common with running as well!
