23.01.2022 The Poppy. I am not a badge of honour. By Paul Hunter I am not a badge of honour, I am not a racist smear, I am not a fashion statement,... To be worn but once a year, I am not glorification Of conflict or of war. I am not a paper ornament A token, I am more. I am a loving memory, Of a father or a son, A permanent reminder Of each and every one. I'm paper or enamel I'm old or shining new, I'm a way of saying thank you, To every one of you. I am a simple poppy A Reminder to you all, That courage faith and honour, Will stand where heroes fall.

20.01.2022 At 11am on 11 November 1918 the guns on the Western Front fell silent after more than four years of continuous warfare. This day became universally associated with remembrance of all those who had died. We remember the service and sacrifice of all Australians who served and are serving still. Wear your poppy with pride today as we unite as a nation to say #remembertoremember
20.01.2022 Lest We Forget.
19.01.2022 It has been an amazing and emotional day for many Australians as we remembered all those who have served. We had the opportunity to film award winning fiddle player Rachel Bostock play a unique rendition of The Last Post. This is incredible. It is powerful. It is moving. Lest We Forget.

19.01.2022 Today marks the anniversary of the departure of the first Australian and New Zealand contingents from Albany, Western Australia, bound for Egypt. The men sailed in a convoy of 38 Australian troopships (36 from Albany and 2 from Fremantle) and 10 from New Zealand. Precious cargo on board the troopships included over 21,000 Australians, 8,500 New Zealanders, 12,000 horses from both countries along with medical and military equipment and supplies. Only one in three of those who sailed in the first convoy would return physically unscathed at the end of the WWI. We thank these selfless ANZACs for their bravery and service, and honour those who paid the supreme sacrifice. #remembetoremember Image Courtesy: AWM

14.01.2022 In the peace and quiet of the Hall of Memory at the Australian War Memorial in Canberra, a pigeon has been busy preparing for new life in a place that commemorates death, sacrifice and renewal. Each day the pigeon has been flying down to the Tomb of the Unknown Australian Soldier to steal poppies, carefully crafting a nest in the lead-up to Remembrance Day in an alcove above the stained-glass window of a wounded Australian soldier. The wounded soldier symbolises the defining quality of endurance, and the nest of poppies nearby is a poignant reminder of the powerful bond between man and beast on the battlefield. A really beautiful story out of the Australian War Memorial this Remembrance Day! #wewillrememberthem
13.01.2022 A beautiful tribute by buglers that stopped the busy streets of Melbourne to mark Remembrance Day! #ThankYou #lestweforget

11.01.2022 Today we commemorate the capture of Kokoda, New Guinea. The capture of Kokoda enabled the Australian advance across the Owen Stanley Range to continue, leading to victory in New Guinea. On November 2, 1942 members of the 2/31st Battalion entered Kokoda unopposed to find the Japanese forces had left two days prior. By mid afternoon that day the entire battalion was in place in Kokoda and the airstrip and the Kokoda village was secure. The impact of retaking Kokoda was immeasur...able. At this stage in the campaign 'Kokoda' had become a household word in Australian cities and towns. The retaking of this small village on a long and winding track through hostile jungle in the Owen Stanley Range was seen by all, even those with little military knowledge, as a huge turning point in the New Guinea campaign. #remembertoremember Image Courtesy: Australian War Memorial
