21.01.2022 We all agree that wooden furniture gives our houses a magical touch And we have also found out that wood has many advantages including easy maintenance. But lets see in detail how to care for wooden furniture in our regular fixture with the free tip day. ... DUSTING. To carry out effective dusting, make use of a wet cloth to absorb settled dust instead of allowing the dust to scatter in the air. Better yet, use a vacuum cleaner to effectively remove dust rather than just pushing it around. CLEAN REGULARLY. It may sound obvious but your furniture will get dirty after some time, so regular deep cleaning routine is recommended. But be sure to make use of specific cleaning agents, detergents and cleaning equipment so you do not tarnish the wood finishing. There is no rule about the number of times to clean your wooden furniture but it is advisable to avoid using too much water while cleaning. WOOD POLISHING. Polishing is done to protect the surface of your wooden furniture, giving it a shiny, elegant appearance. To achieve top results, make sure you choose a polishing agent that is specific to the type of wood used in making your furniture. Some experts have even warned against polishing and waxing your furniture too much! LIMIT EXPOSURE. Exposing your wooden furniture to direct sunlight causes damage to the wooden surface. Sunlight makes your wooden furniture lose its lustre and drains moisture from the wood so its advisable to keep your designer furniture out of direct exposure to light and heat. And after that, just enjoy its wonderful, warm and homey touch. #popupdesign_australia #freetipday See more

20.01.2022 I believe evolution is the one true, indispensable constant of good design. Where Florence meets Japan: in his designs, Mauro Lipparini combines the very best of his roots the long established culture of the Renaissance city of Florence and his international experience of life, shaped by his work in Japan. He has designed virtually everything in his studio: from furniture and textiles through interiors for private homes, showrooms and restaurants to high-rise build...ings. His trademark: natural minimalism or essentialism, the term he himself uses to describe his work. Clean, energetic lines combine with natural materials and original visual ideas. A particularly playful spirit balancing aesthetics and proportion. Source: walterknoll.de #popupdesign_australia #meetthedesigners #maurolipparini See more

12.01.2022 Friday rhymes with Free Tip Day! Yay! Here are some advice to help you caring for your fabric upholstery. VACUUM your sofas upholstery to draw out all the loose dust and dirt from both under and above the surface. ... Use a soft brush attachment and gentle movements for this task to avoid scratching or marking the material. This is especially important for delicate fabrics like velvet. CLEANING. When youre giving your sofa a quick clean, you should take care of any grime or light marks with a damp cloth. However, once or twice every month, you should use a fabric-friendly cleaning product to perform a much deeper cleanse. Apply some with a small amount of water (without soaking the material) and leave it to work. DRYING. Leave your sofa to dry naturally before sitting on it again. This will prevent creases forming, which usually means you have to start over. A lot of our fabric sofas have removable covers that can be taken off individually and cleaned. You should check the care label beforehand to be sure. If you need to wash by hand, you can follow the steps above, and its a good idea to put them back on the sofa to dry naturally to avoid creasing. The majority of upholstery fabrics only require a regular cleaning regime, but velvet sofas require an extra step to keep them looking and feeling great. To preserve the materials natural sheen, you will need to go over it with a clothes brush or a specialist velvet brush, which will help it develop an antiqued crushed appearance that will only improve with age. The best time to do this is immediately after vacuuming or when dry after deep cleaning. Quite easy, uh? #popupdesign_australia #freetipday See more

09.01.2022 We have already talked about the benefits of leather furniture. But we all know that there is a vaste range of materials for our furniture to pick from. Lets focus today on the advantages we can benefit from choosing a fabric upholstery for our sofas, chairs and armchairs. COMFORT. The feel of fabric sofas varies widely depending on the fabric itself and the support system of the sofa (i.e. the cushions and frame). ... Fabric tends to be an overall soft and warm material but this does not mean that fabric couch comes already broken in. You can easily identify a high quality sofa or armchair when fabric keeps its shape and not wrinkle or sag when you get up. CARE. The wear and tear of fabric sofas most often depend upon the grade of fabric. As youd expect, high-quality fabrics will withstand wear better. Most fabric sofas are treated with a stain-resistant finish, so when spills do happen, theyre easily cleaned with specialty products or a handheld steam cleaner. COLOR AND PATTERN OPTIONS. Fabrics are virtually unlimited in pattern, texture, and color, giving you a better chance of matching existing decor and getting the look you want. This is a great opportunity to express your own style: choose a sofa with a fun, bright fabric to grab attention or, alternatively, choose one in a calming neutral to anchor a room filled with art or decorative pieces. COST. You can usually get more bang for your buck if you go with a fabric sofa. Are you ready to spend your lazy afternoons on these comfy seats? #popupdesign_australia #fabricupholstery

05.01.2022 Talking about Karim Rashids life, with over 4000 designs in production, over 300 awards and working in over 40 countries, would inevitably make us fall into biographism. Karim is a legend of design. And this is a fact. What intrigues us is the character, his lifestyle, his thinking and his home that celebrates a Pantone-pastel look. Rashid has created a world of products which in their sensual minimalism are an eloquent expression of Karimity. With the exception of the... pieces by Sottsass, of which he was a student in Italy, the works of other designers are a rarity in his home. This is because, as he himself says, he prefers to fill his spaces with the furnishings that he designs to protect himself from external influences; this is a way both to strengthen his projects and to look at them with new eyes and be critical towards his work. Karim prefers to live with fewer things and more meanings. "You can also add value to life by eliminating," he says, "by replacing consumerism with de-consumerism. A theory of addition by subtraction, in short, where less becomes more. Credits: karimrashid.com living.corriere.it #popupdesign_australia #meetthedesigners @ Melbourne, Victoria, Australia

04.01.2022 Yesterday one of our team members showed you his perfect Sunday: lazing on the Blumun, a splendid sofa in genuine Italian leather. I was wondering how many times have you thought about whether a leather sofa was worth buying? Many - I guess. A high quality material like this often raises doubts and uncertainties.... But hey, I am here for you! Here are some of the advantages you could benefit from choosing a real leather furniture. THE LOOK. Its hard to beat the aesthetic value of leather; walking into your living room and seeing a large leather sofa for example, can make the entire room seem warmer and more inviting. It also tends to look higher-end, so it is a clear indication of higher quality. THE ONGOING CARE. Leather is a low maintenance material. For most pieces, all you need to do is just wipe down the leather with a damp cloth and apply a leather conditioning agent every 6 to 12 months. HYPOALLERGENIC NATURE. Leather is resistant to things like dirt, dust, and animal dander so it is perfect to create an hypoallergenic environment. LIQUID RESISTANCE. Extremely resistant to liquids, the surface of the furniture would repel the wine (or any other liquid), allowing you to wipe it up easily with no long-term damage to the piece. DURABILITY. As long as you take care of it properly, a piece of leather furniture can last a lifetime. It can be vulnerable to cutting and tearing, but only under deliberate and rare conditions. Do you still have doubts about it? DM me or write a comment below . #popupdesign_australia #focusonthematerials @ Perth, Western Australia

04.01.2022 Lets get on the time machine and come back to 1925 . It was the decade of the Roaring Twenties, the years of the progress and the development of the jazz music , the soufragettes and the art dco . But those were also the years of the Wassily Chair by Marcel Breuer, one of the icon of Bauhaus a reference point of the Modernism and promoter of the collaboration between different creative fields.... The Hungarian designer Marcel Breuer brought to light new researches about the metal tube, the fundamental element for the design of the 20s, but also and especially for the Wassily chair. At the beginning, the Wassily Chair was designed for the residence in Dessau of the constructivist collegue Wassily Kandinsky , where the name of the chair comes from. Whatsmore, it seems that the choice of the metal tube was inspired by Breuers bike , the Adler; However, whats sure is the total innovation of the materials. Swipe left to see in detail how Wassily chair is made: Metal tube for the shell; it is modelled without grafts and interructions. The structure then appears as a unique and sinuous shape. Eisengarn for the cloth coating, a material made of cotton wrought with wax and paraffin, which is calendered on a definig-machine. *In the last years eisengarn has been replaced by real leather. The Wassily Chair is the symbol of a lively period for the European design: the biggest member of the modernism and the rationalism were involved in the research of new materials, exploring their potentials and their limits. #popupdesign_australia #wassilychair

04.01.2022 Only if you dare to do something new, to cross borders, you can experience new knowledge. This is the driving energy of Matteo Thuns work. The Milan-based architect and designer was born and raised in the bilingual German and Italian speaking region of South Tyrol, Italy. The story of Matteo Thun is made up of research, which helped him to re-evaluate color.... In short, no Ivory Tower in which shut oneself in, only a great deal of ability to read contemporaneity. In the pictures above there is our South Tyrolean architect and his "refuge" . His lumberjack shirt doesnt lie: as soon as he can he leaves Milan - where he lives and works - and reaches with his family the Engadina in the Swiss canton of Grisons. A veritable buen retiro with no frills and illuminated by the external light that enters overwhelmingly into every room wonderfully framed by windows and golden yellow curtains. We appreciate the positive energy of Thun: "Every time I start working," he says, "Im happy and I enjoy myself. I have no regrets." How can we not be motivated by a man of this caliber? 03.01.2022 I m fascinated about the history of Design and furniture, if you are too then keep reading. Did you know that for most of human history, we didnt have chairs? In the earliest times, when people sat at all, they used objects of convenience. Fallen logs, rocks, stumps or they just sat on the ground.... Often, people didnt even use that. The very first chairs that came into existence were incredibly rare, and their use was reserved for people of extreme importance like kings or high priests Unless you were one of those, you were virtually guaranteed to go your entire life, never having sat on one. Not until the renaissance in Italy where the first chair (aka Chiavari Chair, named after the city where it was first built-in ) made its appearance and sufficiently produced to make their way into the mainstream society. What about the current days? Well, like everything else, the chair has developed and adjusted according to social needs. A chair is nowadays the mainstay and essential of modern society, even demonized a bit because of long hours spent on it, hence the creation of standing chairs. We may not know how our society will develop in future years, but I m sure the chair will still be part of it. Source: Chairinstitute. #popupdesign_australia #chairs @ Australia See more
