10.01.2022 DRY JULY Firstly I must declare I have an interest in this subject - I am an alcoholic. Not a recovering one, but a happy one! I love alcohol. I love the relaxi...ng feeling it gives me, especially after a busy day. I believe I am qualified to speak on the subject after drinking almost daily for 55 years and being the founder of the Happy Herb Co, who’s raison d’être is promoting alternatives to drug of harm and addiction(alcohol included). For a start it is a good idea to break your dependence upon alcohol by giving up alcohol for a month or even a day each week. I deliberately do not drink each Monday, telling myself I can look forward to a drink tomorrow. Gee I love Tuesdays! I might sound like a drunkard, but I am not (or I don’t think so anyway!) I just love pinot noir and good beer. I drink socially, although not to excess (or I try not to anyway!) When drinking socially the very best habit is to have a glass of water between each and every alcoholic drink, especially sparkling water, that way you are protecting your liver (and your behaviour!) We have found that DAMIANA tea puts you in the mood, somehow puts you off drinking alcohol and is an alternative way to reduce your alcohol consumption, tonifying your kidneys as well. During during DRY JULY if you wish to participate and go without alcohol for a month you may need to have alternatives like the happy Herb DAMIANA to help you get through. I found it interesting while on a spiritual journey in India, just before COVID-19 hit, that I didn’t miss the alcohol habit at all in that month. But not long after returning I was drinking again, although I am more in control of it by not drinking Mondays and alternating water with my drinks. Someone told me recently that there’s a certain dignity and self-esteem when you deny your habit, whether it be for a month, or a regular day of the week. That way you feel in control of your habit. One teaspoon of DAMIANA herb in a pot of hot water makes quite a fragrant and pleasant tasting tea that everyone will enjoy. The drinking of DAMIANA tea easily replaces alcohol for social occasions and many have reported that they desire less alcohol after drinking DAMIANA, hot or cold. We have found that people who have given up cannabis, and even alcohol, enjoy the occasional DAMIANA tea and/or smoke for its relaxation and happy feelings, three-dimensional effect and colour enhancement, without any side effects and hangover. Another way to successfully stave off craving for alcohol is to have a piece of fruit instead, because quite often it is a craving for sugar. My most popular and healthy way though is just to keep drinking heaps of herbal teas until 420 comes when I allow myself a glass of red. But we must remember that alcohol is a poison and is toxic especially to the liver. I am reminded of this recently because I have a friend in hospital with just six months given to live. On inquiry I learnt that it was because of liver problems, due to her high consumption in earlier life. It grieves me so much not only for the pain that she is going through, but the ignorance of her doctors who allow her to die. On learning this I immediately expressed MILK THISTLE to her. My friend is undergoing tests and I know for a fact that her inflamed liver will restore to normality. Anyway it’s great that you do DRY JULY but it’s best to detox your body through this process DETOX? People often talk about detox diets and juices etc but I believe there is no need to as there is a marvellous herb the detoxes your liver and that's: MILK THISTLE aka St.Mary's Thistle. MILK THISTLE is indeed an amazing herb-it's an anti depressant as well as an incredible liver tonic. As I wrote earlier I'm a regular drinker (I love my two glasses of red wine at night ) but perhaps I wouldn't be if I suffered hangovers as I used to do in the past. I never have a hangover now as I take MILK THISTLE probably 2 or 3 times a week and I always feel fully up and alive. By the way, a symptom of liver disease is the dark lines underneath the lower eyelids, irritability (S.O.L. - Shit On the Liver), waking up tired in the morning, or even jaundice. Yea for for your DRY JULY ( and if you still drink after July, like me just do Mondays) and take MILK THISTLE! Love your liver Love Ray See more
