25.01.2022 At the recent Museum Sub-Committee meeting it was decided to suspend the Thursday and Sunday opening of the Museum due to the current covid-19 pandemic until sometime in October this year. The October Port Elliot Show has been cancelled for this year; however we will reassess the situation to consider whether the Museum warrants reopening given the prevailing situation at that time.

25.01.2022 As we move into the New Year we have planned a major upgrade to our Museum reception area. It was considered that it be more separate from the museum itself. Entrance to the museum will be the same with as little inconvenience to visitors as possible. Other news from our restoration workshop: several exciting projects are well in hand and will eventually add to our museum exhibits. Also many items of historical interest we are continually receiving for us to assess and receive as donations to the museum display. A recent group visit from Tourist Information Centre volunteers from Strath and Goolwa gave us rave reviews on our content and presentation.

24.01.2022 Two groups of 26 children from the Port Elliot Kindergarten visited the Museum on 10th and 11th of December. They were first given a ride on the restored Granite Island Train around the Show Grounds. Then a guided tour of the Museum in small groups of five or six, was conducted by a number of Museum volunteers.

24.01.2022 Once again we will be participating in "History Month" in the month of May, so will have more on whats on as we get closer to that weekend.

20.01.2022 Another Port Elliot Show has been and gone and with between 1000 and 1300 visitors to the Museum taking advantage of free entry over the two days. Our donation milk cans at the entrance doors were well supported which helps supplement our restoration funds. Our trading table and food van were also well supported making the two days of the Show a great success financially.

18.01.2022 Joining the Christmas Pageant street parade on Sunday last was the restored Granite Island Train. It will be again seen in the Goolwa Christmas Pageant street parade this Sunday.

16.01.2022 We are saddened to inform of the passing of Colin Ekers 17th June 2020, foundation President of the Southern Fleurieu Historical Museum Sub-Committee. Colin was instrumental in generating interest in the creation of a museum initially in Mt Compass. However being unsuccessful he then approached the Southern Agricultural Society Inc. which led to the permanent home of the museum on the Port Elliot Show ground. His drive and enthusiasm resulted in the early progress that has culminated in the museum that exists today.

15.01.2022 We can now report that the major upgrade to the museum reception entrance has been completed. A completely new administration office and counter will provide extra space for all museum administration duties. The Hindmarsh Island Ferrymans shed which served us well for six years has been moved to an outside position within the museum grounds and will provide valuable space to house items that are awaiting preparation for display within the museum. It is pleasing to note that the completion of the above project coincided with the relaxing of the Covid-19 restrictions which prohibited museum visitations. A big thank you goes to the Rotary Club of Encounter Bay for their grant that provided a major contribution to the final cost of the above project.

12.01.2022 Next weekend (6th and 7th) is the 140th PORT ELLIOT SHOW. With a brand new trade pavilion, side shows, horse arena, and all the other attractions that are planned its a Show not to be missed. Our Museum is open both days too, so "be there or be square" as they say.

06.01.2022 What is Museums and Collections?. Museums and Collections (MaC) is the History Trust of South Australia’s standards and funding program for community museums and historical groups that manage collections. Its purpose is to recognise and support the development, sustainability and community impact of South Australian community history organisations.

05.01.2022 Look out for the Granite Island Train in the Victor Harbor Christmas Pageant this coming Saturday and also in the Goolwa Christmas pageant on Sunday 16th December.

03.01.2022 Great news. After a comprehensive process in preparing the submission to apply to History SA Museums and Collectables program, we can now say that our submission was successful, and the Museum has been welcomed to the program. We can now call on them for any guidance we may need in the operation of the Museum and also be able to apply for grants to assist in the projects that we wish to undertake.

01.01.2022 We are looking for a suitable volunteer to undertake valuable administration duties for the Museum. If you are looking for a most interesting facet of volunteering with computer skills and experience in general office administration, then come and see us any Thursday open day. We would love to hear from you. You would be joining a enthusiastic group of volunteers that have created an attractive addition to the tourist attractions of the South Coast. Most of our volunteers are not from administrative backgrounds and lack the skills to contribute to the administration aspect of operating a very progressive historical museum Next major event is the Port Elliot Show - October 12th and 13th
