25.01.2022 Another lovely Friday evening, with off-the-beach dinghy sailing in one of our 2 new Quest dinghies.
25.01.2022 Unfortunately, the Huon Aquaculture Port Esperance Regatta has been cancelled due to the Coronavirus pandemic. We are sorry we cannot host the regatta this year but look forward to 2021 when hopefully it will be safe to socialise, hug and kiss, dance and sail together. Stay well everyone!
25.01.2022 Something for those of us with sailing withdrawal issues..... MySail has created an online sailing Q&A to keep you connected to your sailing and fellow sailors during COVID-19. Dockside with Deb brings you closer to your fellow sailors through a weekly conversation with the people you might expect or want to meet while hanging out at your local sailing club or marina.... This online event is held every Wednesday evening - 5pm in Perth, 6:30 in SA, 7pm in Sydney / Melbourne or 9pm in NZ. This week's guest speaker is Will Ryan. Will is an Olympic medal winner and member of the Australian Sailing Team, and will discuss his journey into sailing and to the Olympics, his tips for performing under pressure and how he's managing the disappointment of the Tokyo 2020 Olympic postponement. This is a free event hosted by MySail and anyone's welcome to join. You can register here: https://bit.ly/3d2aVTZ. It will also be live streamed to MySail's Facebook page.

24.01.2022 So much history and memories come from between these walls. This old apple cold store, built with bricks salvaged from the Hope Town Mill over 100 years ago, has hosted so many community events over the years. Despite our desires to try and retain this old structure its integrity has been compromised and it will have to be demolished. We aim to salvage as much of the old brickwork and remaining roof timbers as possible and use them to build some kind of memorial to the old bu...ilding. So many people in the Dover community have been involved with sailing club or joined community events here over the years. We will try and draw on and express these memories and values in any new building and memorial. We will try and keep you all posted with developments over the coming months.
22.01.2022 We are very grateful to Phil Soley from Clarence Point who heard about the loss of our dinghy fleet in the recent fire. Phil has kindly donated this Highway 21' trailer-sailer to the the sailing club. It will be fantastic for our members to be able to get out on the water this summer in our new boat!
20.01.2022 A very sad day for the Dover Community. Last night the clubhouse burnt. We have lost so much during this devastating event. But we will rebuild and join together again. Our community is resilient. We will get out sailing again soon and enjoy our beautiful bay. For now we mourn but a new club will rise from the ashes!
19.01.2022 Great day to get some juniors back on the water from our temporary storage container thanks to Duggans Pty Ltd

09.01.2022 The first step in our clubhouse rebuilding process is now underway. A working group has been formed to help gather community input. The working group is comprised of 6 PESC members Jeremy Firth, Kari Thomas, Steve Harrison, Rachael Trueman, Robert Jackson and Peter Koob. The working group will gather and collate information on community values and opinions which will be used in the development of the project design brief. Using community input the Working Group will also pre...sent ideas for incorporating a commemorative feature of the old building. They will be gathering input from members, ex-members and the broader community. Specific events will be advertised. The process from here will include opportunity for input and comment along the way. Broadly the process includes the following steps. 1. Working Group (WG) formed to gather and collect information on community values. 2. WG present outcomes of community engagement ideas for incorporating a historical commemorative feature. 3. PESC Committee write a project brief based on WG feedback, the function of the club, project budget and planning restrictions. 4. Project Brief shared with members and community for comment. 5. Refined project brief is used to obtain fee estimates for design and documentation of project. 6. Designer selected based on selection criteria. 7. Selected designer briefed by PESC Committee. 8. Proposed Design presented to members and community for comment. 9. Detailed documentation for approval & construction completed.
09.01.2022 Helping hands get our sailing program back on track. We are now well on the way to getting our sail training fleet back together and planning next season sailing program. A successful Tasmanian Community Grant will partially fund the purchase of 2 new RS Quests (see photo). 2 Optimists have also been, very generously, offered on loan for 12 months by Sandy Bay Yacht Club . These will be used while we continue to rebuild the fleet.... New life jackets have been funded by Nick Street, through the Premiers discretionary fund. Fundraising is also ploughing ahead which will help towards purchasing additional Optimists. A BIG thank you to all those who have helped us rebuild so far. What we need now is temporary storage. If you know of any unused 20’ shipping containers that we could borrow for 12months+ please get in touch. Please put out the call.
09.01.2022 Thank you to the unknown person in Geeveston who donated $50 to the club the day after the fire. It has been put towards our fundraising for replacement dinghies.

08.01.2022 Following the devastating fire at the PESC clubhouse on 23rd April, it was hoped by all that some of the existing structure could be saved. This is unfortunately not the case. The remaining brick structure has been assessed by a building assessor as part of the insurance process as a total loss. The issues that the assessor advised were as follows: - The lime mortar has been structurally compromised by the heat of the fire.... - The old clay bricks are likely to have water and mineral damage due to the cement render applied to the external surface. - Due to the age of the building the footing and foundation of the brick wall structure is not suitable to support the wall structure, and even with reinforcement could not be made to comply with current building regulations. - There are asbestos particles throughout the glues used in the floor finishes. This makes the site unsafe for workers to be on site to attempt repair. - Approximately half of the timber in the roof structure has been damaged by the fire. These combined factors mean that it would not be possible, regardless of repairs, to have the structure certified for occupation without complete demolition and reconstruction. The PESC committee has been informed that there is not an option to retain the existing brick structure. Knowing the importance of the building within the community, the PESC committee has negotiated the following items to be salvaged from the building: - Any surviving roof timbers - Any surviving clay bricks - The timber bar. Due to the presence of asbestos in the building these items will need to be cleaned and certified as safe during the demolition process. For safety reasons it is likely that the demolition of the structure will be undertaken very soon.
07.01.2022 Take a moment to pause and appreciate the old PESC Clubrooms/Apple store next time you pass by. A hundred years of history came down very quickly but the memories remain. We salvaged some bricks and timbers that can be used in a commemorative feature. The site is now clear and we begin the rebuilding process.
07.01.2022 Great to catch up with PESC members in front of a warm fire at the first of our Fundraising events - Firepit Friday. And we raised more than $300 towards the rebuild. Stay posted for information about our next event.
