08.01.2022 This is our WA COVID-19 update for Thursday 16 April 2020. Todays update includes information about expanded options for COVID-19 testing in Western Australia.... It is important people are well informed on the virus, so as new information or advice becomes available we will continue to share it. ---- - Current cases - With over 1000 additional tests completed since yesterdays update, two new WA cases of COVID-19 have been confirmed. In addition, one further case was confirmed from the Artania cruise ship. Of the two WA cases, one case relates to the cruise ship Costa Victoria while the other is still under investigation. This brings WAs total confirmed cases to 535, including Artania cases. All new cases are from metropolitan Perth. As with all new confirmed cases, contact tracing is underway and all cases are in isolation. To date, WA has recorded 340 recoveries from COVID-19, bringing the total number of active cases in WA to 189. To date, 25,088 Western Australians have tested negative for COVID-19. Of these 5,279 are from regional WA. ---- - Testing - The testing criteria for COVID-19 has been expanded significantly at all COVID-19 clinics. Anyone in WA will now be assessed for a COVID-19 test if they present with ANY of the following: - a fever of 38C or above OR - a documented history of a fever in the last few days OR - an acute respiratory infection (eg. shortness of breath, cough, sore throat) If you have these symptoms, please get tested, and help us identify every case of COVID-19 in WA as early as possible. ---- - COVID clinics - Nine COVID clinics are now operational - all metropolitan area COVID clinics are operational between the hours of 8am-8pm, 7 days a week. The clinics now open are at: - Royal Perth Hospital (Ground Floor, Ainslie House, 48 Murray Street) - Fiona Stanley Hospital (Allied Health 2, Gymnasiums, East End, Bedbrook Row) - Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital (C Block, Hospital Avenue) - Armadale Health Service (Ground Floor, 3056 Albany Highway, Mount Nasura) - Rockingham General Hospital (Elanora Drive, Cooloongup) - Midland COVID Clinic: Front of St John of God Midland Hospital (access only via Yelverton Drive) - Joondalup COVID Clinic: Ground floor Joondalup Hospital (Car park P4, Regents Park Road - Enter via outside walkway between Specialist Medical West and Physiotherapy Department) - Bunbury Health Campus (Corner Bussell Highway and Robertson Drive, Bunbury) - open 10am-4pm - Broome Hospital (Robinson Street, Broome) - open 8:30am-4pm In other regional areas, people should go to a public hospital, health service or remote health clinic. Please call ahead if you are concerned that you have contracted COVID-19. Patients will be assessed and where appropriate tested, provided with appropriate information and referred for further medical treatment if necessary. Those individuals who are tested and well enough, will be asked to self-isolate while they await test results. Anyone who is confirmed to have COVID-19, who does not require hospitalisation will be required to stay in self-isolation as instructed by the public health team. It is also extremely important that people who are unwell and are concerned they have COVID-19 should immediately self-isolate and then seek further medical advice. ---- - Additional testing - From tomorrow (17 April), patients with a GP referral can be tested at 12 private pathology collection centres across the metropolitan area. Clinipath, Western Diagnostics and Australian Clinical Labs have dedicated these collection centres for COVID-19 testing. The new services are in addition to our COVID Clinics operating at seven hospital sites across the metropolitan area and at the Bunbury Health Campus and Broome Hospital, as well as at emergency departments in regional and metropolitan WA. The expansion of the testing service means people will have more options, closer to where they live. This is a pre-emptive measure to ensure the availability of facilities and prompt diagnosis can occur as winter and the influenza season approaches. People in regional and remote areas can continue to present to more than 100 public hospitals, health services or remote area health clinics for testing. The collection centres are: Western Diagnostic Pathology - Duncraig, Myaree, Rockingham Australian Clinical Labs - Ascot, Mandurah, Ocean Reef, Subiaco Clinipath - Cloverdale, Fremantle, Joondalup, West Leederville ---- - Closure of the WA border - Western Australias borders are now closed to travel from interstate. An exempt traveller, who will be allowed into our State, must perform one of the following functions: - Health services - Emergency services - Transport, freight and logistics - Specialists skills, not available in WA, for industry or business continuity; - National or State security and governance; and - Courts and judicial services. There are also exemptions for FIFO workers and their families, however strict 14-day quarantine measures will need to be followed, when they first enter the State. Further exemptions will also apply on compassionate grounds. In addition, Western Australians who are already in quarantine for 14 days in the eastern states, will be allowed back to WA if they show no symptoms of COVID-19. They will need to return to WA within 24 hours of completing their period of quarantine, and then immediately self-quarantine for a further 14 days at their home. More information and a list of exemptions can be found at www.wa.gov.au/covid19 Additional, stricter directions apply to those coming to WA via the Kimberley, to protect people living in remote Aboriginal communities. Western Australians who are aware of someone breaching a requirement to self-isolate - please contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or WA Police on 131 444. ---- - Restrictions on travel within Western Australia - Restrictions over travel between regions within Western Australia are now in effect. All non-essential travel within Western Australia must now stop. Unless you fit an exempt category, you will now not be able to leave whatever region of Western Australia you live in. To be clear, those regions are: the Kimberley, Pilbara, Gascoyne, Mid-West, Goldfields-Esperance, Wheatbelt, Great Southern and South West. Due to their proximity and interconnected nature, Perth and Peel will be treated as one region. The exempt categories include: travel for work purposes; to attend medical appointments; to transport freight; those who do not have access to groceries or supplies within their region; returning to a place of residence; where necessary to attend school or an educational institution; caring for family members; and approved compassionate grounds. Western Australians that are currently outside of their region and are able to return, should do so immediately. The construction and freight industries, in particular, will continue to operate despite these new measures. Check points and mobile police patrols will be in place to monitor travel across boundaries and ensure people are doing the right thing. If your need to travel fits one of the exempt categories, please assist police by preparing documentation, such as a letter/email/SMS from an employer, to support your legitimate travel. An additional restriction on intrastate travel applies for Esperance. Unless for essential purposes, no visits to Esperance will be permitted. ---- - Additional restrictions on travel for the Kimberley - Measures have been implemented to stop the spread of COVID-19 to the Kimberley region. Intra-regional boundaries, in line with the four local government areas (Shire of Broome, Derby West Kimberley, Wyndham East Kimberley, Halls creek) within the Kimberley region are now in place. People must stay in their local government area. The existing exemptions apply, such as provision of essential services or supplies, medical reasons or residents returning to their home. Residents who need to cross a regional boundary to return to their home, must self-isolate for 14 days. Kimberley residents are urged to stay home and cease all non-essential travel and activity. Indoor or outdoor activities of more than two people should be avoided, unless exempted. Anyone displaying symptoms should contact their local health facility immediately. ---- We are preparing and taking every precaution to protect Western Australia from COVID-19. The Western Australian health system and our hospitals are very well prepared to manage infectious disease situations and have well established systems and processes in place. The State Government is taking this very seriously and we need to be prepared for a pandemic. Every action we take and decision we make is to protect Western Australians. We have already taken action with a suite of measures to prepare the State for the possibility of a pandemic. It is important that we all continue to remain calm and use common sense. The best thing we can do to protect ourselves is quality personal hygiene and exercise social distancing by avoiding unnecessary personal contact. That includes covering coughs and sneezes, washing hands often with soap or sanitiser, staying home from work or school if unwell, avoiding shaking hands or hugging, and maintaining distance from others in public. Please also continue to follow the advice of authorities and doctors - anyone who is instructed to self-isolate must take the order seriously, stay home and not put others at risk. This means you dont leave your property, you dont go to work or school, you dont go on outings and you dont have visitors - only leave the house to seek medical attention. ---- Official information regarding COVID-19 in Western Australia - www.wa.gov.au/covid19 WA Department of Health information www.healthywa.wa.gov.au/ Coronavirus information hotline 1800 020 080 Smartraveller information regarding travel advice for Australians - www.smartraveller.gov.au

05.01.2022 This is our WA COVID-19 update for Saturday 2 May 2020. It is important people are well informed on the virus, so as new information or advice becomes available... we will continue to share it. ---- - Current cases - With around 3,400 additional tests completed since yesterdays update, no new cases of COVID-19 have been confirmed. The States total number of cases has remained at 551. WA has now recorded 520 recoveries from COVID-19, bringing the total number of active cases in WA down to 23. To date there have been 44,681 COVID-19 tests performed in WA. Of those, 7,777 tests were carried out in regional WA. ---- - Change to reporting of WA COVID-19 test numbers - Understandably, there has been a lot of interest in the numbers and statistics around COVID-19 in WA, across Australia and around the world. With that in mind, I just wanted to take a minute to explain a change were making around how we report the number of COVID-19 tests conducted in Western Australia. Until now, WAs numbers for COVID-19 testing have reflected the total number of people who have been tested. This method of counting meant that if someone was tested for COVID-19 multiple times, at any point in time, they would still only be counted once. Going forwards, our numbers for testing will instead count the total number of tests conducted. Currently, that number is 44,681. This means that our numbers will now provide a more accurate reflection of how many tests are being conducted in Western Australia each day. Importantly, it also brings WAs reporting of this statistic in line with other states. You will see this new count included in our daily update graphics and in the information released daily by the Department of Health, in place of the old figure. ---- - Easing of restrictions on gatherings and activities - Some of Western Australias stage 3 restrictions have now been relaxed to ensure families and friends can stay connected during the COVID-19 pandemic. The changes, based on health advice, will mean indoor and outdoor non-work gatherings will be relaxed to enable for up to 10 persons, lifted from the two person only limit, following continued low number of new cases and the encouraging response to COVID-19 in WA. Everyone should continue to practise appropriate social distancing and stay home except for: - shopping for what you need, such as food or other necessary supplies; - medical or health care needs, including compassionate requirements; - exercise, including outdoor personal training without shared equipment; - training or university study, where remote learning is unavailable; - childcare or school; - work; - non-contact recreational activities such as private picnics in the park, fishing, boating, hiking and camping - all in compliance with travel restrictions and the 10-person rule; - home opens and display village openings, with appropriate record keeping and hygiene practices in place, and in compliance with the 10-person rule. A maximum of 10 people will be allowed at weddings, funerals, outdoor personal training (no shared equipment), home opens and display village inspections as part of these changes. The two person only restriction was initially implemented from March 30 for a month with the intention to review the situation fortnightly to see if measures could be adjusted. The new 10-person rule aligns WA with South Australia. The two-person rule was adopted in WA, going further than what was recommended at the time in a bid to curb the spread of COVID-19. All public playgrounds, skate parks and outdoor gym equipment are to remain closed. All other restrictions will remain in place for now, in a bid to manage social distancing and better protect Western Australians. Restaurants, cafs, food vans, food courts and road houses remain restricted to takeaway and home delivery. These decisions are based on the best medical advice in the country and as outlined by National Cabinet restrictions could be in place for six months, but subject to regular review. ---- - Elective surgery to resume - Public and private hospitals across our State have resumed elective surgery, including: - IVF - Screening programs (cancer and other diseases) - Post cancer reconstruction procedures (such as breast reconstruction) - Procedures for children under 18 years of age. - Endoscopy and colonoscopy procedures - Joint replacements (including knees, hips, shoulders) - Cataracts and eye procedures Patients will be contacted directly by the relevant hospital. Patients are asked not to contact hospitals as they work through arrangements. Category 1 surgeries have been maintained throughout the COVID-19 response and will continue to proceed as normal. We are taking a cautious, deliberate and targeted approach to avoid undoing all the hard work and results were seeing in WA as we battle COVID-19 together. ---- - Testing - The testing criteria for COVID-19 has been expanded significantly at all COVID-19 clinics. Anyone in WA will now be assessed for a COVID-19 test if they present with ANY of the following: - a fever of 38C or above OR - a documented history of a fever in the last few days OR - an acute respiratory infection (e.g. shortness of breath, cough, sore throat) If you have these symptoms, please get tested, and help us identify every case of COVID-19 in WA as early as possible. ---- - COVID clinics - Nine COVID clinics are now operational - all metropolitan area COVID clinics are operational between the hours of 10am-6pm, 7 days a week. ---- - Additional testing - The first respiratory clinic in Western Australia has opened in Geraldton. Operating out of an existing GP-clinic the clinic will assess people who have mild to moderate symptoms and is part of the Federal Governments roll out of dedicated respiratory clinics being set up across Australia. Patients with a GP referral can be tested at 11 private pathology collection centres across the metropolitan area. The collection centres are: Western Diagnostic Pathology - Duncraig, Myaree, Rockingham Australian Clinical Labs - Booragoon, Mandurah, Ocean Reef, Subiaco Clinipath - Cloverdale, Fremantle, Joondalup, West Leederville ---- - Closure of the WA border - Western Australias borders are now closed to travel from interstate.
