23.01.2022 What's your meal planning and food shopping routine? Love Food Hate Waste Victoria reports that the average Victorian household spends almost $2,200 on food whi...ch they throw out each year. We're all spending more time preparing meals at home at the moment so it's the perfect time to shop smarter to reduce our food waste. We’ve created a weekly meal planner and shopping list to help you plan your meals before you shop for groceries. You can find it under the reducing food waste section on our website: https://www.portphillip.vic.gov.au//a-to-z-waste-and-recyc It's a proven way to reduce what you buy and what you throw out. #dontwasteit

For the moment, all Port Phillip Libraries will ...remain temporarily closed while we plan a safe and practical re-establishment of both our ‘item returns’ and ‘Click and Collect’ services. We will continue communicating and interacting with our community online via our Facebook page, Instagram, Email and website. Leave a message on 9209 6655 or email [email protected] and one of our fabulous staff will get back to you as soon as they are able! Stay positive and see you soon!

20.01.2022 It has been wonderful to see our Cultural Seniors Meals Program delivering much-needed support to isolated seniors by providing them with a delicious meal and a... friendly face, as well as regular COVID-19 updates in their own language and welfare checks. The pilot project was developed in response to feedback from older members of the community, who, following the temporary suspension of their Seniors Groups due to Victoria’s Stage 3 and 4 lockdown restrictions, were missing their regular social connections. 18.01.2022 These numbers are worth mentioning and celebrating. Today Melbourne's 14-day average dropped below 50 for the first time in months. It's fallen almost 10-fold... since early August. That means we're well on track to take the next step but the more we can drive the numbers down before then, the better position we'll be in on the other side. Now is not the time to take our foot off the pedal. We've got this.

17.01.2022 This has been a difficult year, and it hasn't always been easy for Victorians to stay on top of their mental health. That's why we've funded a new service cal...led Partners in Wellbeing, offering free one-on-one counselling to Victorians who are feeling overwhelmed and are struggling to cope, as part of over $200m we've provided in mental health support. The service provides ongoing wellbeing coaching and emotional support to help people work through how they're feeling and get back in control of their mental health - and unlike many other helplines, Victorians who use the service will get regular call-backs to ensure consistent, ongoing support. The service will be delivered in partnership with Neami National, EACH and ACSO. For more information get in touch with one of these organisations or call 1300 375 330, and don't forget you can also reach out to one of the below services if you need urgent support: Beyond Blue: 1300 224 636 Lifeline: 13 11 14 SuicideLine: 1300 651 251 Kids Helpline Official: 1800 551 800 Switchboard Victoria: 1800 184 527

17.01.2022 Part of bringing our mental health system up to scratch is ensuring that Victorians have the dignity and care they deserve when receiving treatment. Our $6 mil...lion upgrade to the Orygen Youth Health intensive care unit is a terrific example of this, giving young people experiencing acute mental illness access to the best and safest clinical care. The new building receives an abundance of natural light, and includes four new inpatient beds, expanded and enhanced living and treatment spaces, and features for privacy, safety and amenity. Upgrades like this one reduce the risk of harm, and create a safe and comfortable environment for people accessing treatment. For more information on the upgrade visit https://www.vhhsba.vic.gov.au//orygen-youth-health-intensi

17.01.2022 The scars of this pandemic won't just disappear when the virus goes away. And if we want to truly recover, we need to not just build big but care strong too. ...That's why today we announced over $235 million to employ, train and upskill a Recovery Workforce of mental health professionals, disability support staff and child protection workers and create 500 new jobs. That includes developing 240 Family Violence and Sexual Assault trainees, and providing funding to retrain Victorian nurses in mental health. We're providing new child psychiatry registrar positions for junior doctors, and almost 100 new alcohol and drug recovery coordinators. And we know that those who've been through it, understand it best that's why we're training and deploying a lived experience workforce of Victorians who've tackled mental health in their own lives, to help those doing it tough right now. We're working with Victorian Aboriginal health services too, and creating a $40 million fund to enable Aboriginal healthcare providers across Victoria to support and care for their communities. And because every Victorian child deserves to feel safe and cared for, over $132 million will massively expand our state's child protection workforce too boosting their capacity to protect and improve the wellbeing and safety of Victorian kids and their families. For too many Victorians, going back to 'how things were' before the pandemic means going back to an unsafe home or inaccessible mental health care. And that's just not good enough. As a state we'll come out of this stronger than ever but only if we bring everyone along with us.

10.01.2022 The numbers over the last week have been encouraging. The vast majority of Melbournians have stayed the course and it's paying off. While there's still a way to... go, I hope everyone is making the most of the warmer weather, school holidays and the easing of some restrictions to get outside a bit more - maybe catching up with a friend for a picnic, or going for a socially distanced walk just like this local family enjoying their two hours at Albert Park Lake. Thanks to Wayne Williams Images for this incredible shot and thank you to everyone in our community for the sacrifices you’re making to protect our health system and keep your neighbours, friends and family safe.

09.01.2022 Hey Melbourne, we have some really nice news for you today Today Melbourne’s 14-day case average dropped to 22.1, just in time for Daniel Andrews to announc...e new restriction changes. Perhaps the biggest change is that from 5am tomorrow the curfew will no longer apply. Here's what else changes: From 11.59pm tonight, childcare will be open for all children, no permits will be required and the 5km radius will not apply. One childminder or babysitter will be allowed in each home "if that is the arrangement that best suits your circumstances." For students in primary school, special school and VCAL onsite learning will resume the week beginning on the 12th of October. From tomorrow, 127,000 workers are to return to onsite work with a COVID-safe plan Outdoor exercise is now also allowed within 5km of your workplace, with a 2-hour limit. If you are exercising near your workplace, you must carry your permit, and facilities such as tennis clubs and bowls clubs remain closed. From 11.59pm tonight a household or a limit of 5 people from no more than 2 households will be able to gather outside. The limit on 1 person from each household shopping just once a day will be lifted. 1 visitor per day for a maximum of 2 hours will be allowed in hospitals. And for patients under 18 years old, 2 parents or carers can visit with no time limit. Non-urgent services will also be allowed for all dental surgery practices who have a COVID-safe plan. And a limit of 5 people and 1 faith leader for outdoor gatherings and ceremonies will be allowed from 11.59pm tonight. Stay safe Melbourne

09.01.2022 Thanks to the community's efforts in following restrictions and helping drive down case numbers, we will take the first of our cautious and careful steps toward...s a COVID normal tonight. From 11.59pm Melbourne moves to the First Step of the roadmap for reopening, with modest changes including more social interaction and more time outside. Social bubbles begin, allowing those living alone or single parents to have one other person in their home. Exercise is extended to two hours split over a maximum of two sessions, and you will be able to use that time outside for social interaction with one other person or the members of your household. Playgrounds and outdoor fitness equipment reopen, libraries will be able to open for contactless click and collect and the curfew will move to 9pm as Melbourne moves into warmer months. The numbers are falling but we need to keep it that way ensuring we can continue to open up safely and sustainably based on the data, the science and expert public health advice.
