23.01.2022 PUMPING EMBARGO IN DARLING'S NORTHERN CATCHMENTS The NSW Department of Planning, Industry and Environment has today put in place restrictions on water take from northern basin rivers, ahead of anticipated rain in coming days. The embargo, which applies to the Barwon-Darling, Border Rivers, Castlereagh, Macquarie Bogan, Peel, Upper Namoi and Lower Namoi, takes effect immediately and will be in place until January 31, unless otherwise amended.... "If there are sufficient flows, the temporary water restriction will replenish pools in the inland northern rivers that provide refuge for fish and other aquatic species, contribute to connectivity, and improve water quality," Beth Overton, the department's acting executive director of water policy, planning sciences, said. "Protecting any upstream flows should they occur will also enhance the prospects of water reaching Menindee, and potentially connect refuge pools and supply critical environmental needs in the Lower Darling." The last rainfall in the catchment was in November but towns downstream of Tilpa, including Wilcannia and Menindee, did not receive inflows. Wentworth councillor Jane MacAllister said the pumping embargo was a "big relief". "To have this in place ahead of the weekend, when rain is expected, is a change, especially from the last debacle and hopefully this heralds a new way of dealing with embargoes preemptively, rather than after the fact when the water is all gone," she said.

15.01.2022 We would love to see you BUT This is SO IMPORTANT. SSAA Statement on hunting in NSW yesterday. Dear Members. NSW Police have provided further information this afternoon, in relation to hunting and fishing. Please follow this advice and continue to monitor any changes that are made by Government as the pandemic continues:... Rural Crime - NSW Police Force FISHING/HUNTING TRIPS While brief fishing trips from home are considered exercise (within the two-person limit), fishing and camping holidays are not. Please dont think if you pack up your fishing, camping or hunting gear this Easter or school holiday break and travel into country NSW that you are doing it legally you are not. The inclusion of fishing, hunting and golf as an allowable recreation is about people who can access that activity locally. You cannot use fishing, hunting or golf as an excuse to travel on a holiday or to your usual retreat in country NSW. The key message here is people should not to travel unless it is absolutely necessary to do so and covered by an exemption (for example to go to the supermarket or doctor). We are asking people to understand that staying inside your own community with your own family is the safest option. All police in regional NSW will be patrolling roads and conducting high visibility policing operations. Along with traffic law enforcement, those officers will be targeting unnecessary travel. Persons detected travelling without reasonable excuse will be directed to return to their home address and run the risk of being issued with a $1000 infringement notice. Statement released on the Rural Crime - NSW Police Force Facebook page today, 3 April 2020.

01.01.2022 The Pooncarie Racing Club committee are very sad to announce that this years Pooncarie Races scheduled for Saturday October 3rd have been CANCELLED. As COVID-19 restrictions began to ease we had hoped that we would be able to go ahead but unfortunately the recent increase in COVID-19 cases, border closures and restrictions on public gatherings have lead to us making the difficult decision not to go ahead with this years race meeting. Its not all bad news. This year we wi...ll be instead focusing our energy towards improving the Pooncarie Racing Club. We want to thank all of our sponsors, trainers, volunteers and race goers for your support over the years! Stay safe and we hope to see you all, bigger and better in 2021!
