The game started in slippery but mild conditions led by Tayla Clifford in the ruck who gave first use of the ball to Ports hard running onballers Mady Eaves, Liarna Reid and Stacey Fox, all making their presence felt getting early clearances.... Ellie Doyle was impressive off half back and took the game on with her line breaking running and long kicking a highlight After having multiple entries up forward it was Fox who made the ball her own kicking two great running goals in the opening term. Port continued to attack the ball with force in the 2nd quarter with Georgia Jones playing well in a key match up. Sammy Kluga, Ella Brereton and Jess Oneill were all working hard for the team, and with Taylah Dillon and Isabel Sharp solid in defence Port were able to rebound all of the Demons forward thrusts. Amy Sharp finished off some great team play to kick a classy goal under pressure to see her team go into half time with a 22pt lead The 3rd quarter started as an arm wrestle with all players throwing themselves into the contest. 16.01.2022 R4 Match Report Port vs Claremont Port matched up against a strong Claremont team at Cygnet in fine conditions last Saturday, captain Michelle Cowen in the ruck gave us first use in the centre with Mady Eaves, Liarna Reid and Ella Brereton working hard on the ball early The Ports defenders Ellie Doyle, Isabel Sharp, Ashton Oates, Tia Duggan and Taylah Dillon were matched up well on their opponents, but Claremont got the first few goals on the board through clean, quick use ...into their forward line. Port then had repeat entries up forward with Tayla Clifford making an impact and the impressive Stacey Fox marking well and kicking truly to give her team a much needed goal. The game from there was a tough encounter with the Port women tackling hard and applying pressure but were unable to stop the constant flow of ball into Claremonts forward line. Highlights of the game were the key match ups of Ellie Doyle on Claremonts experienced forward Nietta Lynch and Isabel Sharp on SFLW leading goal kicker Nat Daniels, while the scoreboard was one sided the game was very physical and earned Port respect from the opposition coach and players. From the first bounce Port were right on top with captain Michelle Cowen in the ruck giving her onballers first use who cleared the ball well and quickly moved the ball into the forward line, with 5 goals straight kicked for Port in the term.... The trend continued for the remainder of the game with Port dominating the play against a young undermanned Tigers team who fought out the game with great heart, slowing down Ports scoring efficiency as the game wore on. In a great display of sportsmanship Port dual permit players Sammy Kluga and Sophie Lovell selflessly offered to play for the Tigers for the day to even up the numbers and prevent a potential forfeit, both girls played solid games and their efforts were appreciated by Tigers stand in coach Harry Burrows. In another great team effort Stacey Fox was all class up forward taking many contested marks, kicking 8 goals and giving many more off. Georgia Jones was outstanding for Port with her speed to run and carry the ball forward, while Ellie Doyle was again unstoppable, using her strength to break tackles and clear the ball through the centre. Port ran out the game 105 point winners moving them up into 4th position on the SFLW ladder. The women now face Hobart at Cygnet on Saturday in their last roster match for the season. 05.01.2022 The Bell Family Tower As part of the infrastructure upgrades at the Cygnet Oval, the Club, with the assistance of the Huon Valley Council, also upgraded the T...imekeepers Box. The Box has been enlarged, reclad and lined internally, and will now be be know as The Bell Family Tower in honour of three generations of Bells who have controlled the stopwatch at Port games for many decades. Ivan took over the timekeepers role in 1958 from his Uncle Jack and before him was Ivans father Tom and grandfather Bob. Ivan was only 13 years old at the time and he is still sitting in the Box every home game some 62 years later. In recognition of their fine service to the Cygnet Football Club, Tom was awarded Life Membership in 1965 and Ivan was awarded his in 1976. What a fantastic family tradition and we hope Ivan has many more years in "The Tower".

Football is a big part of life for Sophie with her Dad coaching and younger brother playing in our Southern Storm colts team, which played a big part in her decision to come play for Cygnet. We love having Soph and her team spirit in our Port Womens team for 2020. #supporttheport

02.01.2022 R5 match report v Lindisfarne The Port Women faced ladder leader Lindisfarne at home under lights on a clear and chilly Friday night, Taylah Dillon lead out the team in her 50th game for her club. Port won early clearances with Tayla Clifford, Ellie Doyle and Hayley Kluga prominent. The majority of play was in Ports forward 50, but the defence of the Lady Blues held firm rebounding well to score the first goal until Stacey Fox kicked truly late in the quarter to get Port on ...the scoreboard. Port continued to work hard, with Abbey Reinmuth, Ashton Oates and Georgia Jones all involved in great passages of play, Ella Brereton and Liarna Reid were strong across half back, although Port were unable to find a way to goal and went into halftime 14 points down. The women lifted their intensity in the 3rd quarter, moving the ball well and playing with confidence, Bel Sharp, Dillon and Abby Doyle all solid in defence, clearing their area when needed. Port surged forward on many occasions without reward until Clifford launched a barrel from long range to clear the line and give her team momentum heading into the final term. With the game still up for grabs the women gave everything in the final term, attacking every contest and sticking their tackles. Amy Sharp threaded a great goal to close the gap to a single kick, only to see a quick reply. Ellie Doyle continued to put on a masterclass, breaking tackles and clearing the ball, racking up 38 disposals for the night. Fox nailed another goal with 5 minutes to go but the Lady Blues showed their class and experience to hold Port out and go home with a 12 point win. Port will take plenty of positives to out of the game and look forward to playing at home again next Saturday vs Brighton.
