16.01.2022 As our Scottish Community has been effective as every other community around the world we have to come together and stand as one. The Scottish Banner has reached out to our community and asked for this message to be spread and for us to support them. Scottish Banner As Covid-19 continues to cause great concern and disruption amongst the world, which certainly includes our very own Scottish community, with all facets of business facing never before... seen challenges. One of the industries severely impacted are those of us in publishing, with many titles around the country already folding, and due to cancelled events, travel restrictions and impacts to Scottish businesses the Scottish Banner has lost a great deal of advertising revenue going forward. In addition, Scottish festivals are currently not taking place causing a further major cut to revenue. I am hoping Scottish community organisations can rally their memberships and encourage them to subscribe or purchase the Scottish Banner. Every reader that buys their own print or digital copy makes a big difference to keeping the Scottish Banner viable. Many members may pick up copies at events which are currently cancelled, not feel comfortable going to newsagents each month and may be missing editions, or rely on a copy to be passed on to them from someone else. We are now reliant more than ever in readers buying each issue, each month. If you would like to contact The Scottish Banner directly please see their details below. Lets come together and support. 13.01.2022 More sad news for the Scottish Community in South Australia. Jean Lumsden passed away this morning (10/05/2020) in the RAH. Jean held the positions of President..., Secretary and Assistant Secretary for the Scottish Associations of South Australia, giving many years service to the Associations. Jean was also heavily involved with the Royal Scottish Country Dancing Society holding office for many years. She was a teacher of Country Dancing and a tutor to Teachers. Jean was an enthusiastic supporter of Scottish Culture and I was fortunate to have worked closely with her on many projects promoting Burns, Tartan Days and St Andrews events during my long stint as President of SASA. She will be greatly missed . Jean is pictured here (second from left) With John McNeil, Rosemary McKay and Jim Hay at the 2009 Burns Commemoration at the State Library. Rest in Peace Jean. See more
