20.01.2022 What do Lions and Rabbits have in common? Obviously, both are at the opposite ends of the food chain but both will bite as an instinctive reaction when their territory is threatened. There is often the misconception that rabbits are cute, cuddly and fluffy little creatures.... While this is true, bighting is an unwanted behaviour. It’s really important to understand why your rabbit bites and more importantly what you can do prevent this. Reducing your rabbit’s territorial behaviour includes desexing and providing them with an interactive relationship with you and potentially other rabbits. Quality time and reducing hormonally driven behaviour will ensure your bunny loves you as much as you love it! To learn more about how to keep your rabbit healthy and happy, join Dr Beverley Stanley-Clarke Veterinarian and passionate rabbit advocate for a free webinar tonight, 4 August 2020 at 7pm.

19.01.2022 Why are bunnies’ scaredy cats? In nature, rabbits are a prolific and natural source of food for many predators. Instinctively rabbits therefore react to anything that moves in close proximity as a potential threat. Timid and easily startled, rabbits may react by biting or attempting to flee to even well-meaning attempts to pat or cuddle them. ... Understanding your rabbit’s natural behaviour will help you create an ideal home environment that will ensure your rabbit is a happy and healthy little treasure. 18.01.2022 Miss Molly presented to the clinic with Grade 3-4 Dental disease, her owner stressed that Molly had a 'not so kissable mouth'! Dr Beverley scaled and polished Molly's teeth and extracted those that presented with low bone density. Dental X-rays play a very important part of a scale and polish as they show what is hiding underneath the gum line which played a huge role in Molly's dental! Molly is now caravaning around South Australia with her owners and her pearly whites!

13.01.2022 What is my weiner eating ?! Meet Maple! A long haired mini-dauschound who was just shy of a year old when she was brought into the clinic for her ability to eat everything and anything. Maple came to us with a very sore tummy, dry retching, panting, small vomits and no number two's! After admission for hospitalisation and bloods, her blood results showed abnormalities and the x-rays presented with gas and forgein bodies in the gastrointestional tract.... Maple was taken into surgery for an exploratry laparomoty to remove the forgein objects blocking her stomach. The contents found inside Maple was a collection of differentiating materials. Coming out of surgery Maple got to spend the weekend with Dr Shaun and Lisa whilst they monitered her closely and fed her new favourite food, warmed chicken! Sweet Maple has had a full recovery from her surgery however still hoovers throughout the house trying to find un-necassary items to eat!

10.01.2022 We are very excited to have the opportunity to welcome Dr David Davies, Internal Medicine Specialist, who has joined the Port Adelaide Veterinary Team. Dr David is regarded as a leading Internal Medicine Specialist and his expertise available in a general practice is rare. Dr David will be seeing patients with chronic and complex conditions usually beyond the expertise of general veterinary practitioners (much like in human medicine when your Doctor refers you to a specialist...). This is an unprecedented opportunity for our vets Dr Shaun, Bev, Kelvin and Jac to learn from Dr David and have his input into our more complex cases. In most cases we would prefer a referral from your vet as continuity of care is very important to us. Please call us on 8449 4011 to discuss scheduling an appointment.

09.01.2022 Meet gentle natured Ruby, the 4-year-old American Staffordshire Bull Terrier, who was recently rushed into surgery to treat a life-threatening condition called a pyometra or infection of the uterus. This life-threatening disease is one of the most common conditions seen in undesexed adult and senior female dogs. It is preventable by ensuring your dog is desexed as a puppy (or as is now recommended in large breed dogs, around a year old). Checkout some further pics at the link below...
