23.01.2022 If it takes a village to raise a child, we've lost the village while we're confined to our homes. Some kids are thriving, some are coping, and some are struggling - and the same could be said of the parents. Parenting Ideas founder, renowned parenting educator and author Michael Grose joined the ABC Radio Melbourne's Conversation Hour to answer parents' questions about homeschooling, missing milestones, and discussing coronavirus with children. https://aus01.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/

20.01.2022 A thunderstorm asthma warning has been issued for today November 11. We have sent an SMS message to all of our families. All children with asthma plans are being monitored and their medication is in their classrooms with them. All staff at Portarlington Primary are trained in asthma management. Children have been asked to let a staff member know if they experiencing any difficulties. Other Information:... There is a HIGH, thunderstorm asthma warning in the Mallee, Wimmera, Northern Country and South West districts, and a MODERATE warning for West and South Gippsland, North Central and Central districts. People with a history of asthma, undiagnosed asthma or hay fever are at an increased risk of epidemic thunderstorm asthma. Have asthma emergency kits readily available, be familiar with action plans, reliever medication and asthma first aid. Avoid being outside especially during wind gusts prior to a storm. Close windows and doors and turn air conditioning units to re-circulate. Remain vigilant for COVID-19. Don’t assume symptoms are due to hay fever or asthma. If staff or students experience symptoms such as fever, chills, cough, sore throat, shortness of breath, runny nose, and loss or change of sense of smell or taste, they should self-isolate immediately and test for coronavirus (COVID-19). 08.01.2022 World Teacher’s Day 2020 Friday 5th of October 2020 Shining the Spotlight on our Teachers To our wonderful team of teachers-Michelle, Lauren, Brad, Lisa, Morgan-Lee, Sarah, Michael, Dylan, Kahlia, Chris, Brooke, Jasmine, Ashlea, Kim, Renee, Ben and Tim... Together with the rest of Australia, Portarlington Primary will be celebrating World Teacher’s Day. We always appreciate the amazing work that our teachers do every day. Friday the 5th of October is a special day set aside to recognise the commitment, professionalism and dedication of all of our teachers. We have a highly committed and very dedicated team at Portarlington School and 2020 has been very challenging for our profession. This year’s World Teacher’s Day theme is ‘Leading in a Crisis: Reimagining the Future’ and gee, didn’t they do just that! The global COVID-19 pandemic has affected everyone. Teachers across the globe had to completely change the teaching and learning to make sure that that our students (and their parents and carers) had the support they needed to continue and progress with their learning. All these adjustments had to be made whilst they still had to teach as there was little time to plan for what was to occur. Educating students during a pandemic was a very new and unknown territory. There was very little research and examples of how to manage teaching and learning and our teachers did their utmost to deliver the best learning experiences that they could. They reflected and evaluated what they were doing every day so that they could improve the experience for the students. Many teachers also had to teach their own children whilst teaching our Portarlington Primary students. Throughout 2020, our teachers have continued to show resilience and persistence. They have shown courage to try new strategies and new technologies. Thank You - Thank You Thank You -to our Portarlington Primary Teachers for your passion and love of your role in making a difference in the life of every student by improving their learning outcomes, supporting their health and well-being and caring for them. You are such an important part of shaping their lives every day, every month, every year and especially during the crisis of 2020. We also thank you for the significant role you play in our school and in our community. We love you!
