25.01.2022 Tasmania's Most Haunted came to Port Arthur Historic Site, Tasmania as part of her #makeyourselfathome campaign and discovered that it doesn't have to be dark to feel the spirits of this place. But for those who are brave enough to head out after sunset, our much loved Ghost Tours are back! They have been exceptionally popular, so make sure you book in - https://portarthur.org.au/tour/ghost-tour/

25.01.2022 Port Arthur was more than a prison for the male convicts; women and children lived within this settlement too. Join our special Paranormal Investigation Experiences and spend some unique time in the homes of these lesser known residents. https://portarthur.org.au/tour/paranormal-investigation/... One of the little pieces of history that intrigues many on these tours, photographed by Tina Thorogood. #portarthurtassie Discover Tasmania Hobart & Beyond #holidayherethisyear #comedownforair

22.01.2022 Due to severe weather, the Makers Market has been postponed to Saturday the 3rd of October. We look forward to seeing you all then!

22.01.2022 Such a serene and still view out of the Parsonage window, that for some becomes a little more than they bargained for when ghostly faces appear. What will you see? On this Halloween night, we are taking out a special Paranormal Investigation tour. Spend some quiet time in the Parsonage, Commandant's House and Separate Prison and experience the sights, sounds and feelings of the haunted spaces of our site.... Limited spaces left! https://www.facebook.com/events/2457632267605217/ Thank you for the peaceful daytime photo, www.instagram.com/pommie.tim #portarthurtassie

20.01.2022 We are sorry to share that The Port Arthur Ghost Tours will be CLOSED from tomorrow 21 March 2020 in response to the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. Port Arthur Historic Site Management Authority (PAHSMA) has heeded the advice of the Tasmanian State Government to temporarily closing both The Port Arthur Historic Site and the Cascades Female Factory to the public. PAHSMA has taken measures to protect our staff, our visitors and our community so as to continue operations... as long as possible but new crowd restrictions mean that as of Saturday 21 March will be closing both our sites indefinitely. We have not come to this decision lightly. Port Arthur has only just won the national tourism award for Major Tourist Attraction and as an iconic attraction, we have a duty to our visitors, our team and our industry to ensure the health and safety of everyone. While the period of closure is still unclear, we will continue to look after our people and our World Heritage sites. We sincerely apologise to our current travellers and trade partners and will refund in full any pre-booked tickets. We will continue to keep everyone informed and look forward to reopening as soon as possible. For tickets enquiries and refunds please contact our reservations team on [email protected] or phone our team on 1800 659 101. For media enquiries contact Jennifer Fitzpatrick Marketing and Communications Manager on [email protected]. For information about how the situation is being monitored in Tasmania refer to the Tasmanian Government Department of Health website www.health.tas.gov.au/coronavirus or follow the Department of Health on Facebook for updates at www.facebook.com/healthtas. #discovertasmania #covid19tas #holidayherethisyear #hobartandbeyond #australianconvictsites #portarthurtassie Tourism Industry Council Tasmania Discover Tasmania Southern Tasmania Tourism Operators Group Tasman Business and Tourism Association image credit: Wilkography

18.01.2022 "A must-see when in southern Tasmania, so much history. Try the ghost tours of an evening for a different perspective and who knows who you might meet.." Thanks Naturaliste Travel for visiting our site and sharing your experience!

17.01.2022 Take a spooky walk through history in some of Australia’s oldest towns and buildings.

17.01.2022 Ghost Tours have started up again and it's pretty clear that Tasmanians are keen to get out and see night time splendours like the eerily lit Church as stories of the darker side of Port Arthur are told. Extra tours have been put on for school holidays, but spaces are limited on each tour and must be pre-booked through https://portarthur.org.au/tour/ghost-tour/ or by calling our reservations team on 1800 659 101. The Tasmanian Government is releasing another round of #Makeyo...urselfathome vouchers tomorrow, and if you are lucky enough to nab yourself one, it can be used for Ghost Tours. Thanks to www.instagram.com/ffourie/ for capturing the Church at its spooky best. Discover Tasmania Hobart & Beyond #holidayherethisyear #Makeyourselfathome

16.01.2022 A hauntingly sad tale of two lives lost Complications during childbirth were unfortunately common during the 1800’s. In somewhere as remote as Port Arthur, women would have been rightly concerned about how they and their child would fare during this vulnerable time. Has the death of a mother and newborn led to one of our most frequently sighted ghosts? It doesn’t matter if it’s day or night, you might just spot her somewhere along Civil Row. We wonder if www.instagram.co...m/claudia.mazzei saw her during her visit? #portarthurtassie #australianwomenshistorymonth #IWD Hobart & Beyond Discover Tasmania

13.01.2022 Soldiers in uniform, a lady in a blue dress, children peering out a window. The sights, smells and sounds you cannot explain. You might think that the dark has a bit to do with playing with people’s imaginations, however these are things that happen in broad daylight. Port Arthur has reopened and we are so excited to welcome visitors back to the site! With our new opening hours of 10am 4pm, we unfortunately are not running our ghost tours or paranormal investigations for... now, but we will keep everyone updated as things change the spirits have missed everyone too and may just make a daytime appearance for you. Share your ghostly Port Arthur experience in the comments to keep the stories going! 12.01.2022 As those doing this Saturday’s Paranormal Investigation may find, it’s not just ghosts keeping them on the lookout. 09.01.2022 The ever-popular spine-tingling Port Arthur Ghost Tours are back! Bookings are essential. It’s been 5 long months, Ghost Tours are finally back from the 24th of September, right in time for school holidays. We're taking all precautions in keeping you safe from all things seen and unseen during this time. Our COVID safe plans ensure that each tour is capped at 15 people, so make sure to book in advance to secure your spot https://portarthur.org.au/tour/ghost-tour/. We hope to see you soon.

09.01.2022 Ghost Tours run almost every night and although there are many valid and logical reasons for the strange things people see, hear and feel while on tour, there are many experiences and photos that we can't explain. Of course, it doesn't have to be dark to have your own ghostly encounter! Thank you to those who have shared their mysterious images from 2019. Tell us what you think you can see in these pics or share yours!

08.01.2022 Before the 25th of April became recognised as Anzac Day, it happened to be the date that one of the site's most infamous inhabitants passed away, 150 years ago today. Perhaps coincidentally, the anecdotal stories of ghosts at Port Arthur began soon after... 08.01.2022 During the day, inmates of the Separate Prison were able to spend one hour walking in the individual yards for exercise. Silence was still to be maintained and every man was watched to ensure he didn't stop moving. If you're brave enough, you can spend some silent time exploring these yards, the Chapel and even the Dumb Cell during a Paranormal Investigation Experience. On offer the last Saturday of January, February, March and April.... https://portarthur.org.au/tour/paranormal-investigation/ Thanks to https://www.instagram.com/cowabungabunga/ for showing us the view the guard would have had, whilst he kept his eye on the prisoners. #portarthurtassie Discover Tasmania Hobart & Beyond #doyoudare

05.01.2022 At the end of October, the ancient Celts would light bonfires and dress up to ward off bad spirits. These celebrations evolved over time and are now known as Halloween. They also marked the time between Spring Equinox and Summer Solstice as Beltane (bright fire) which was their halfway line of the year - the divide between light and dark. Whichever you go with, it’s a time when the veil thins between the living and the dead and therefore seems like the perfect occasion for... a ghost tour, don’t you think?
