25.01.2022 F I X A T I V E Most people know what fixative is, but we're just going to go ahead and tell you about it anyway, because we love it. With this product all your pencil, pastel and charcoal will stay in place. To use it, we recommend going out side (you don't want to breath it in) and testing the spray before using on a drawing. Once you are happy, prop up your drawing (don't lie it flat, the spay can drip), hold the can 15cms away and spray horizontally, beginning from outside the edges and making sure to end past the edge of your drawing. Give it a moment to dry, then rotate the picture 90 degrees and spray again. Test the smudge level between layers and stop when it no longer smears.

23.01.2022 O I L P A S T E L The Sennelier oil pastel was first made in 1949 for Pablo Picasso who was looking for a medium that could be used freely on a variety of surfaces without fading or cracking. This collaboration produced an incomparable palette of colours that have since been expanded to include iridescent hues. As well as having an extraordinarily high pigment quantity, the oil pastels are made with an extremely pure synthetic binding medium and mineral wax which gives them a uniquely creamy texture and allows for a great deal of freedom in pictorial expression.

By substituting a portion of oil with a neutral mineral wax, the oil paint can be formed into a stick allowing for a freedom of expression and a greater degree of spontaneity. Upon application the paint will dry within 2-5 days. The product may be stored for extended periods of time and requires no special attention. Like conventional oil paint, it can be varnished over after 6 months.

20.01.2022 P A S T E L S In the early 1900's, Sennelier spent three years formulating a range of Extra Soft Pastels "à l'écu" which today consists of over 500 colours. Throughout the century, this range of tones has evolved, but the heart of its making remains unchanged. The pastels continue to provide exceptionally bright colours and smooth application.

20.01.2022 F A T O V E R L E A N The other day I found myself in a conversation with two relatively established artists who were both confused by the term; fat over lean. So, I have decided to just clear things up for everyone. Fat over lean is a rule used by oil painters to determine how to layer their mediums in a painting. A lean medium is one that is heavily thinned with solvents whilst a fat medium has large quantities of oil. You want to apply your leanest mediums at the beginn...ing of the process( i.e. use to apply ground and any under painting) because they dry the fastest whilst your later and final layers should be used with fat mediums, which will create a lustre and dry slower . This image is a rough scale of lean (left) to fat (right) mediums we have in store. We recommend you always read the label of your mediums to determine how best to use. See more

16.01.2022 G O U A C H E I like to say that gouache is the love child of watercolour and acrylic paint. Like watercolour, it is a watermedia, which means that it can be reactivated by water, this also means you cannot layer it, but like acrylic, it is designed to be applied in dense opaque coats. Gouache is a charming paint that creates beautiful flat and matte images. It is ideal for creating illustrations and graphic artworks.

04.01.2022 The mouth atomiser is a strange contraption for spraying paint. Bend the hinged pipes into an L shape and place the long end into a small pot of paint. Place the short end (with the rubber or wooden tip) into your mouth, and direct the bend toward some paper. When you blow, the air pressure will lift the paint through the pipe and disperse it as a spray onto the paper. Art is such a science!
