24.01.2022 Meet Board member - Janette Hyde If you have been around the town for any length of time, you will have met Janette, who had been a voice for local tourism for decades. We recently caught up with Janette to ask about tourism in our local region during 2020, how is our region going?... This is what Janette had to say... We're fairing extremely well. As soon as the travel ban was lifted the long-weekend in June, it was like Christmas and we were all on tenterhooks because of COVID. The region went through that with flying colours. Then July school holidays came and that was another Christmas. And this September, October school holidays, has been similar. We're not exclusive to these types of results, up and down the coast they've been well serviced by the tourists. Janette said 'because we're four hours from Sydney, a lot of people made this their base, meaning the tourists stayed in the region and did day trips to other locations on the mid-north coast. Janette mentioned another interesting point on our tourists, they used to either live here or holiday here as children 'Oh, I used to holiday there. I'll go up and have another look at it', re-discovered is a good way to view it. Not only that, there is a diversity of options with accommodation, tourist attractions not to mention all the wineries, the coastal walk, the walks and attractions the hinterland. Congratulations to all our tourist and hospitality members, and making us a destination of choice for the intra-state travellers.

06.01.2022 A question we are asked occasionally is this...Why would I join the Port Chamber as I am a member in another region? Great question. Here is what Mark Wilson had to say.... Before anyone can answer this question, the question to ask is...what geographical region do you, as a business sell into? If your geographical region is across multiple Chambers, then it may be time to consider joining various Business Chambers in your geographical region. That way you will be able to develop business relationships, network in the areas that matter and connect more with your customer.
