25.01.2022 Beautiful moment captured of a blue spotted stingray flying over corals.

25.01.2022 It’s almost that time of year again..... Each winter dwarf minke whales make their way to the tropical waters of the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park. It is be...lieved they come here to mate and give birth and while in the area show an insatiable curiosity in snorkellers and divers. We have been helping research these magnificent animals with The Minke Whale Project for the past 20 years. See more

13.01.2022 Another amazing experience

13.01.2022 To understand the health of the Great Barrier Reef it's necessary to distinguish between AVERAGE live coral cover and SPECIFIC locations. These pictures are all... taken at Opal Reef. The sequence could be manipulated to show either recovery or deterioration over time. The reality is that all the pictures were taken recently, including the first two which were taken at one of our sites this month. This explains why it's possible for tourists to still see amazing reef, yet overall live coral cover has been severely reduced. According to the Australian Institute of Marine Science (AIMS), they recorded the highest average coral cover in the northern region of 30% in 1988, compared with 14% this year. The central region’s highest recorded average coral cover was 22% in 2016 compared with 12% this year, and the southern region had 43% in 1988, compared with 24% this year. In our region recovery is occurring since 2017 but action on climate change is just as important as ever to help change the long-term trajectory. See more
