25.01.2022 Important changes that will impact our volunteers. Any questions? Miss Helen is happy to help.
25.01.2022 Today our Prep to Year 4 students were lucky enough to receive a copy of "Everything flows to the sea", written by Caitlin O'Neil and illustrated by Alyssa Jackson. These books were kindly donated by Great Barrier Reef Legacy, and were published through a Douglas Shire Council Micro Grant. What an outstanding achievement by these two very talented young women. ... We have quite a few very proud teachers today, including some who still hold copies of Alyssa's artwork and writing from when she was a student at PDSS.
24.01.2022 It truly was such a fun afternoon. We're sure that there will be many tired children at home tonight. Big thank you to our school community for their fundraising efforts :-)
23.01.2022 Today we farewell our year 6 cohort. We wish them all the best for the adventures that lay ahead.
22.01.2022 With only a couple of hours left until school holidays start, we're all looking forward to taking a well earned break from the hustle and bustle of the school year. However, unfortunately empty schools provide an opportunity for criminal activity becoming targets for unlawful entry, arson, stealing, graffiti and property damage offences. Schools, including state schools, are not public spaces and entry to them is therefore by consent or invitationimplied or explicit. It... is an offence to be on state school premises without a lawful authority or a reasonable excuse for being there (a current maximum fine of $2356 applies, s 334 Education (General Provisions) Act 2006 (Qld) (Education Act)). This means that school grounds (such as the playing fields) are not available for general use out of school hours without permission, even just walking through school grounds as a shortcut. The School Watch program is a partnership between the Department of Education and the Queensland Police Service (Protective Services). The program aims to reduce criminal activity in Queensland schools and encourages everyone to look out for after hours crime in our schools. If you see anything suspicious, please don’t attempt to intervene. Instead, call the School Watch number on 13 17 88. If you see a crime in progress, please call Triple Zero (000). We will have additional security services patrolling our school grounds over the holiday period. Let’s all work together to help create a safer school community and ensure that our children get off to a great new year of learning in 2021.
21.01.2022 Congratulations to this week's Students of the Week: Rosa, Kobe, Lexi B-M, Harli, Anton, Aria, Akayshea, Asha, Alexis and Marcus C. Well done! Class Awards given out this week: Tidiest Classroom - 6 TM Nude Food - 1/2 AM... Literacy Planet - 4/5 EA Mathletics - Prep BH, Prep/1 CS and 1/2 AM all had 100% of students gain certificates. This week our behaviour focus is "Representing Our School" and "Celebrations". We have our Colour Fun Run tomorrow afternoon, with classes getting ready on the oval at 1pm. All classes should be up and running the course by 1.30pm. Icy poles will be on sale for $1 each after the run. Please remember to send your child/children to school tomorrow with a towel and they should bring in a white/light coloured shirt to wear for the run. Students who are wearing school uniform will not be able to be "painted" during the run. On Friday we have a number of teams from years 3 and 4 (soccer and tennis) and years 5 and 6 (T20 cricket) going to Mossman to participate in the District Gala Day. Permission forms for students participating in this day were sent home last week and should have been returned by now. Mr Zahnow and Miss Beadle will be providing interested students with an opportunity to participate in a STEAM challenge over the school holidays. More information on this will be sent home after student interest has been established. Mrs Hoye has been working with students who expressed an interest in participating in District Ball Games in Miallo in the first week of next term. Permission forms will go home on Thursday, and due to time constraints will need to be returned on Friday. This is our last week before the holidays, and our first full 10 week term this year. Everyone is starting to show just how tired they are, and can't wait to enjoy some relaxation over the break.
19.01.2022 This holidays definitely seems to be going quickly.

13.01.2022 This morning students were fortunate enough to have a sneak peak at the "Gravity and Other Myths" performance that is playing in Port Douglas over the weekend. There were lots of ooohhhs and aaaarrrrhhhs and some comments from children about wanting to become circus performers. We did place a disclaimer on the performance, that it was presented by trained performers and stunts should not be performed at home or school.
11.01.2022 Well it's official. School finishes on Wednesday this year. Don't forget to book vacation care if needed.
08.01.2022 It’s time to think about enrolments for Term 1 2021! At Port Explorers we offer 'Outside School Hours Care' (OSHC) for school aged children, providing professio...nal support which assists families in the multiple roles they are responsible for in our modern world. We understand that parents need to work and are pleased to be able to offer this OSHC service to assist our local community. Our service consists of Before School Care, After School Care and Vacation Care. As with our Port Explorers Daycare and Kindergarten Centres, it is important to us that the service we provide to our children is stimulating, supportive, engaging and also lots of fun. Opening Hours Before School Care (BSC): 6:00am - 9:00am After School Care (ASC): 3:00pm - 6:00pm Vacation Care (VAC): 6:00am - 6:00pm Meals and Snacks A wide range of child-planned healthy meals are available during all programs offered at OSHC.
