21.01.2022 It was an amazing sight :)
13.01.2022 SteamRanger Heritage Railway is pleased to announce that after several years of negotiations, operational broad gauge locomotive 844, will join our fleet, follo...wing its donation by OneRail (formerly Genesee & Wyoming Australia). Locomotive 844 was built by AE Goodwin and Co, at their Granville, NSW workshops, and entered service with the South Australian Railways on the 25th October 1962, servicing on both broad and standard gauge’s, before being placed into storage at Dry Creek following the cessation of stone train operations between Penrice and Osborne. Locomotive 844 will join sister unit 845, which is currently under restoration at SteamRanger’s Mount Barker Depot, in providing a strategic backup to our fleet of operational steam locomotives. The locomotive is expected to be moved by road from Dry Creek to Mt Barker in the coming months, where it will receive a cosmetic overhaul to its original livery, and undergo the appropriate accreditation for operation on our Cockle Train service. We thank OneRail for their generous support. Photo courtesy of Corey Gibson
06.01.2022 In line with State Government Covid-19 restrictions, all services on the SteamRanger Heritage Railway will cease effective 0001hrs on Thursday 19th November 202...0 until at least Wednesday 25th November 2020. We will be closely monitoring the situation, and will advise of a re-opening date as soon as it is safe to do so. Booked passengers on Saturday's Southern Hills Special will be contacted by our booking officers. Stay safe, and stay well.
02.01.2022 EFTPOS is available for puchasing tickets on SteamRanger trains :) Thank you to all the lovely passengers who have been patient as we learn how to use it!
01.01.2022 Historic Cockle Train Returns to the Rails for the June Long Weekend The historic Cockle Train will return to the rails for the June Long Weekend, following the... relaxation of Stage 2 Covid-19 Restrictions. 3 diesel-hauled trains will operate daily between Goolwa and Victor Harbor from Saturday 6th June to Monday 8th June inclusive only. As a result of capacity restrictions on indoor seated attractions, the Cockle Train will have a maximum of 80 passengers on each journey, with tickets only available from Goolwa or Victor Harbor ticket offices prior to departure (no advance or online bookings available). Due to these limitations, trains will not service Port Elliot or Middleton until further notice. SteamRanger has increased its cleaning processes and has undertaken Covid-clean accreditation, as well as a COVID-SAFE plan to ensure a safe experience for our passengers and staff. Due to infrastructure works being undertaken by City of Victor Harbor Council at Coral Street, services will then cease following the long weekend until Sunday 21st June, when train services will resume on Sunday's only until the July School Holidays. It is timely to remind motorists and pedestrians to exercise caution when crossing our railway between Mt Barker and Victor Harbor, as trains can operate at any time of the day or night.
