13.01.2022 Not Just a Man’s World. As most woodworkers know, Arbortech have been around for many years. Their innovative, angle-grinder driven products such as their Industrial Pro Wheel and Turbo Planner are world renown. ... Less well known but equally brilliant are their power carvers and sanders These tools are amazingly easy to use and their effectiveness at shaping timber, especially harder timbers normally beyond the skill of many carvers, has brought the joys of wood carving to a whole new generation. These tools have given many women encouragement to pursue their artistic interests in a field that has traditionally been dominated by men. The Port Elliot Show is especially delighted to have the very talented Cindy Dale demonstrating all of Arbortech’s wood carving range in the Woodwork Section of the show this year. Those who know Cindy professionally (she’s a banker by day) are sometimes surprised to learn that she is a very accomplished wood turner. Her work is both beautiful and innovative and can be viewed in local art galleries. Her artistic expansion into sculpture has involved a bit of a learning curve but Cindy has been able to employ her imagination and artists eye to the new medium and is creating some really fascinating pieces. We hope you will be able to get to the show to see Cindy in action with a wide variety of Arbortech tools.

09.01.2022 Douglas Bell International Wood Artist will be demonstrating at the Port Elliot Show. Born in Scotland, Doug has lived in Australia most of his life, mainly in Adelaide. Formal and informal studies included Architecture, Industrial Design, also part time Art School subjects over a 20 year period which included drawing, painting, sculpture, jewellery and pottery. From his late teens he became intrigued with creativity and design and has privately studied and practiced these ...subjects ever since, amassing a large library of books and treatises on the subjects. Doug has been employed by various Builders, Architects, Engineers and spent some 11 years as State Director of the Industrial Design Council of Australia, then as International Marketing Manager of Adelaide Ship Construction until 1990. At that time Doug launched out on his own developing his lifetime hobby of wood-turning into a business with general studies at TAFE in wood machining helping him to become an accomplished wood-turning teacher and trade turner. Attendance at workshops by Australian and International experts in various aspects of woodcraft, further helped to give him command of the processes of design, creativity and craftsmanship. A chess set which Doug designed was taken by the Australian council to be exhibited in the Australian Pavilion at the worlds first environmentally themed fair, the ‘Expo 1974 World’s Fair’ in Spokane, Washington, USA. It was also part of and exhibition of Industrial Design in the Art Gallery of SA in that year. After the Design Exhibition, The Art Gallery of SA acquired a chess set which became the foundation piece for their newly formed collection of contemporary craft. Following ‘Expo 1974’ in Washington, the National Gallery in Canberra also acquired a chess set. This set was placed in their collection of Decorative Arts and Design. In the late 1990’s Doug served as president of ‘Woodgroup SA’ and was admitted as an accredited member of the then named ‘Crafts Council of South Australia’. He was also accepted as a craftsman member of ‘The International Guild of Master Craftsmen’ based in the UK. He is also an Artist Member of the ‘American Association of Woodturners’. Doug’s work has been part of many nationwide exhibitions and he has won many prizes for his pieces. For the past 20 years, Doug has taught Woodturning, Pyrography and Design and Creativity as well as demonstrating his skills in these areas at Wood Shows all over Australia. You can talk to Doug and see him demonstrate some of his amazing skills this year at the Show in the Woodwork Pavilion (Michael Scott building) or contact him after the show at [email protected] or phone him on 0401 746 879.
