Put it on the verge, pass onto someone else or find a new home (try your local Buy Nothing group) - all SA groups here https://www.google.com/maps/d/u/0/viewer - Repair - It could be repaired - you could repair it yourself, go to your local repairer or repair cafe - and we have a new repair cafe at The Parks Library - Recycle - Ask whether it could go into another bin ? Your yellow recycling bin, the green organics bin or the Redcycle bin at your local supermarket for soft plastics - Lots of other items can be recycled and PEC has a list of local places to keep valuable resources out of landfill http://portenvironmentcentre.org.au//RecyclinginPort-Adela And now PEC can take your old reading glasses, Xrays, jars for bulk foods, corks and pens and markers - giving them a new life!

20.01.2022 Our last coastal dune walk (back in spring) was a really beautiful morning. Splitting into small groups, we got to wander the coastal path with volunteer guides from the Semaphore Largs Dunes Group and Taperoo Dunes. Learn about the plants, animals and dune environment from people who know it well. The weather forecast is looking good. Register your FREE place, so we know how many expect.

20.01.2022 We ran a similar session with Amanda early this year, and it was great. Looking at how to choose well and dress well, to minimise the amount of clothing and avoid the traps (and environmental impacts) of fast fashion. Highly recommended - jump in fast before it sells out.

19.01.2022 We're back from Christmas holidays and excited for changes in 2021, including getting on instagram and opening on Sundays. Find us @portenvironmentcentre

19.01.2022 Our Grow Free cart is back (but with FRUIT FLY restrictions)! After a long holiday, our beautiful little cart is back out the front.. But it is looking a bit bare at the moment (some basil seeds, gardening magazines, and some bottlebrush plants) Give what you can, take what you need. It will be outside when the centre is open (Wed, Thurs, Fri 10am-3pm).... BUT we are right on the edge of a fruit fly zone. So NO fruit or fruiting vegetables to be left on the cart. So NO fruit, citrus, or tomatoes, capsicum and eggplants. We are happy to have seedlings, seeds, herbs, veggies, plants etc. You're also welcome to snip some fresh herbs from our little veggie patch (thyme, taragon, kale, silverbeet). #growfree

We were so excited to have such a great group of people at the Centre we forgot to take any photos! Over the next 7 weeks, this group will work through different topics, and look to set themselves goals around living more sustainably and reaching ou...t into their community. Due to COVID the bulk of this course will be done through Zoom, with the first and last sessions held in person to help bring everyone together. 18.01.2022 Tonight you have the opportunity to join an online info session about getting involved in the first-ever Seeds For Snapper SA seagrass restoration project this December. This exciting project will involve people collecting seagrass seeds this summer that are washed up on our beaches, or floating out at sea (for those out fishing), to help restore our precious seagrass meadows. Join in tonight to learn more, or head to https://www.facebook.com/groups/ozfishseedsforsnappersa We... have seen the immense loss of the seagrass meadows along Adelaide coastlines and these meadows are a nursery ground for baby pink snapper, calamari, whiting and blue swimmer crabs. OzFish together with leading scientists are bringing these beautiful meadows back to help our fishery for the future of fishing. In 2020, we need all hands on deck to collect, process, and disperse 1 million seagrass seeds to help restore and regenerate South Australia’s lost seagrass meadow. https://ozfish.org.au/eve/seeds-for-snapper-sa-info-session

14.01.2022 Join the Aussie Backyard Bird Count from 19-25 October Participate in a simple, fun, all-ages activity that can be done anywhere. All it takes is 20 minutes (or do multiple 20 minute counts through the week). The Aussie Backyard Bird Count provides important data to BirdLife Australia that helps develop an understanding of local birds around Australia. This can provide a snapshot of native bird species each year, allowing for researchers to look at trends in bird communities... over the years. Birds are an important indicator species - meaning that data on birds provides a good indication of overall biodiversity and environmental health.

03.01.2022 Did you know we have a FREE community library here at the Port Environment Centre? But we are always looking to improve it and have noticed we have very few books relating to Australian BIRDS. Many people in our region have an interest in birds, and the International Bird Sanctuary is on our door step, so we are confident books on birds would be a great asset to the PEC lending library. If you have any bird books that you are willing to donate or loan to our lending library could you let us know? They could be dropped off during our opening hours (Wed, Thurs, Fri 10am - 3pm) or we could collect them if you aren’t able to drop into the centre.

03.01.2022 Have you signed up for SHIFT October? Charlotte spoke at our 2040 Film night about SHIFT. A month long group to help you learn how to take positive action on things that matter to you. Be supported, work with others. A fantastic, volunteer lead initiative.
