24.01.2022 ***Return to Sport*** Following the latest lifting of restrictions by the state government, we are thrilled to announce we will be able to go ahead and complete our Aussie Hoops program that we began back in term 3. The training sessions will recommence next week, with strict COVID safety measures in place. An email has been sent to all participants to remind them of these procedures and session times so please check your in-boxes. Please note that although indoor TRAINING s...essions are permitted, competition is a different story. A summary provided by Basketball Victoria is outlined below. Indoor contact sport is part of the final step of the governments COVID roadmap which means unfortunately at this stage, our Wednesday night competition is unable to go ahead. The committee is still exploring options and is hopeful we will be able get our short season completed before the end of the year. We will keep you posted with any developments as they come to light. https://basketballvictoria.com.au//BV_2020_ReturnToSport_D

Our competition would not be possible without this support and we wish to take this moment to say a huge thank you!! Ple...ase see attached the team lists and also the link for the draw. Basketball Victoria has implemented PlayHQ which will give access to the draw, weekly results and the ladder. Please use this to access this information. 23.01.2022 With todays easing of restrictions, we are thrilled to announce we will be able to return to our competition this coming week with strict covid precautions in place. Fixtures can be found on the playhq website https://www.playhq.com//port-fairy-basketball-ass/6ec63002 Although the dates are yet to be altered on that site, the teams and game times are correct. This week we will be playing the round 2 games. Due to lack of time, we are now unable to play any finals this seaso...n. We understand that individual cirumstances may have changed since we last played, so we ask that any coaches who are now unable to fulfill that role, please get in touch with us ASAP so we can make alternative arrangements. Only players that are currently registered will be eligible to play in this competition, we will not be accepting new registrations as our players have already been thoughtfully allocated a team, and our season is so short. We are anticipating being able to start a new season term one next year so keep an eye on our facebook page, community notice board, and school newsletters for updates. Please ensure you read and adhere to our important covidsafe procedures: -Entry through front doors of stadium and exit through side door to Colledge oval -Only one spectator per player, crosses are marked on the bleachers 1.5 metres apart to assist social distancing. Spectators are required to wear a mask while in the stadium -Sanitise hands on entry and exit -Leave basketballs at home, we will use our clubs game balls which will be sanitised between games -Fill in the 'sign in' sheet on entry to assist with contact tracing -Remember we are now cash-free, please bring banking cards to pay for games -We are required to empty the stadium of people between games to ensure a thorough cleaning job, so we ask that you vacate the stadium promptly after each match. Coaches, if you wish to have a post-game discussion with your team, please do this out on the oval. The front door to the stadium will be locked at half time of each match until the post game clean is completed. -Please bring labelled drink bottles, no sharing of drinks Please keep your child home if they are feeling unwell. We can’t wait to see the kids back on the court this week

21.01.2022 Basketball Victoria have today released further updates regarding both domestic completions and representative leagues. Due to stage 3 restrictions and a state of emergency declared until mid May, all basketball activities are postponed until at least 31st May. This date is being reviewed regularly and updated, and we will continue to keep you posted. Below is a statement released today. We hope everyone is keeping safe and well http://basketballvictoria.com.au/covid-19/

19.01.2022 Yesterday, the Victorian Government made announcements relating to the easing of restrictions due to the COVID-19 pandemic, this included allowing people to par...ticipate in outdoor activities or train in community sport in groups of up to 10 people (plus a coach / supervisor). Basketball Victoria supports this approach, as it recognises that sport and exercise play a critical role in the physical, mental and emotional wellbeing of Victorians, but importantly this must be balanced with the risk of transmitting coronavirus. While this provides an opportunity for many of us to get back into participating in basketball outside of our home environment, Basketball Victoria wants to emphasise that how we all collectively act in the coming weeks will directly affect the health of our community and our sports ability to return to more regular indoor activity in the near future. We are being provided an opportunity to enjoy a level of sport and exercise outdoors in the short term, but we must not compromise safety, nor the reputation of the sport at this vitally important time. For those wishing to participate outdoors we suggest you refer to Basketball Victorias Outdoor Training Guidelines that have been developed in line with government restrictions and the AIS Framework for Rebooting Sport. Should you choose to participate outdoors, have fun, but please do so in a safe and respectful manner. For a full update and guidance on outdoor activity / training - please visit http://basketballvictoria.com.au/covid-19/

19.01.2022 We have had some questions come in regarding a senior competition. Sadly at this stage due to Covid 19 restrictions, we are unable to provide a senior competition. As soon as the government gives approval for senior sport, we will be looking at when we can commence a senior competition. For now we will all just have to live vicariously through our childrens sport!! If you had registered pre Covid you have the option of waiting until the senior competition commences, or you c...an private message us to organize a refund of the registration fee. We, like you, are disappointed that we cant provide a senior competition, but as we all know we are living in a unique time. Hopefully this will end soon but until then stay safe, wash your hands, social distance and if you cant, wear a mask. We will get through this together!! Please see the link for the current government Covid 19 restrictions around sport. https://mcusercontent.com//BV_2020_ReturnToSport_OutdoorTr

15.01.2022 What a fun and positive start back to basketball in Port Fairy! The kids looked great in their new tops and loved being back on the court. It was wonderful seeing the coaches encourage their teams and refs running the sidelines. Thank you to everyone who has made this possible by volunteering your time, without your support it wouldnt happen. Thank you also to the Warrnambool Standard for coming over and covering our return to basketball. https://www.standard.net.au//bouncing-back-junior-basket/

14.01.2022 Hello our loyal basketball community! You will notice that we have removed the post with the registration links for our juniors. We have done this as there has been some confusion around age groups. We will be reposting tomorrow with what will hopefully be a less confusing post, explaining the age groups and making it clearer as to which link to register with. If you have already register and you notice tomorrow that you have used the incorrect link, dont despair, we will be able to fix it our end. As a new committee we will make a few mistakes along the way, and we apologise for that. Please be assured though that our main goal is to provide the best basketball opportunities we can for you all.

14.01.2022 The committee is very excited to announce that the Port Fairy Basketball Association was one of the 10 successful clubs to receive this grant. This money will be used to provide some exciting new opportunities for our girls and we look forward to announcing what those are in the coming days. There will also be restrictions on when you can enter prior to a game, and when you will need to exit at the end of a game. There will be more information on this as we near the start of competition. 12.01.2022 To any members interested in coaching a domestic team when basketball is able to start up again, Basketball Victoria is proud to present an Online Community Coaches Course via the Zoom video conferencing platform. Suitable for junior players and new coaches looking for drills to run at their training sessions to improve their athletes. Sessions are listed for the 2nd June and 4th June 2020.

11.01.2022 Port Fairy....we’ve got this

10.01.2022 To our valued basketball community, After much deliberation we are deeply saddened to inform you all that Aussie Hoops sessions and the Wednesday night comp will not be going ahead this week. Stage 3 lockdowns will be implemented from midnight Wednesday, however given Victoria has been placed into a state of disaster, we feel that postponing all basketball programs effective immediately is the right thing to do. The health and safety of our players, officials, spectators and ...community has to be our priority at all times. While planning our competition and Aussie Hoops, the Covid cases in our region had remained low, and we hoped we would be able to get a short season completed. It was always a risk, but we recognise the value of sport to our kids mental and physical health, so it was a risk we were willing to take. Unfortunately as we have all learned over the past few months, the situation has the potential to change rapidly, and we have to change with it. Feedback from the Aussie hoops participants, as well as Wednesday night players, coaches, and spectators has been overwhelmingly positive. We can consider the last week a teaser for the season ahead, whenever that may be. We would like to take this opportunity to give a big shout out to our new referees, you guys all did great job last week. We look forward to supporting you and watching you develop as our home-grown game officials. To our volunteer parent coaches, thank you again for putting your hand up and donating your time and knowledge to our kids. Volunteers are the lifeblood of any small sporting association and without you we wouldnt have a competition. The feedback from a coach this week was, when you walked into the stadium you felt a really strong sense of community. We agree. We look forward to working with you all again when we come out the other side of this lockdown. We are hopeful that we will be back on the court in term 4. Please keep an eye on our facebook page for updates, iso training drills and any other important information In the meantime, stay safe, stay active and remember that basketball isnt going anywhere, we will be back! We cant wait to see you all on the other side. PFBA Committee

09.01.2022 Hi to our PF basketball community. We hope everybody has been keeping safe, well, and shooting hoops at home during this strange time. We thought wed give you an update, as much as we can at this point, on whats happening with basketball. At the moment, we still plan on running a season of basketball when Covid restrictions permit. Unfortunately, there is still no indication of when indoor contact sports will be allowed to recommence so we are unable to give you a start date.... We will be running Aussie Hoops programs on Monday afternoons for girls, and Saturday mornings for the boys, this will cater for our younger kids, 10 yo and under. It is a structured and fully endorsed program introducing players to the game. Here is some info on the Aussie Hoops programs for those interestedhttps://aussiehoops.basketball. Please do not try to register your children for Aussie Hoops yet, as due to Covid there have been delays in getting our registration pathway set up, The website link has been posted for information purposes only. We thank everyone who indicated earlier in the year that they are interested in taking on a coaching or refereeing role. We recently emailed you with some information. When we are able, we will run courses to train you up for those roles. We will be offering a free info session at the club for people interested in domestic coaching, however, for those who are super keen, BVC is running an online domestic coaching course this week-It will be held on Tuesday, and then repeated on Thursday. The links to these courses were posted on our facebook page last week . We will always be after people to fill these roles so please consider whether you would like to get involved, support and training will be provided. We would really love to see more girls playing basketball. Our expressions of interest forms we put out earlier in the year indicated we would only have a handful of girls in the u14/16 age groups, not enough players to run a comp. We are hopeful that once registations are open, more girls will come out of the woodwork and want to play, in the meantime, girls, see if you can drum up some interest amongst your friends! We have no word as yet, on whether or not a squad season will go ahead this summer. Hope this clears a few things up, if you have any questions or concerns, please email us at [email protected] Thanks, and we look forward to seeing you back on the court soon Claire Hynes (President PFBA)

06.01.2022 A reminder to all players, coaches and spectators to be kind and patient as our green shirt referees learn a new skill. Insults and abuse of referees, especially our green shirts, is not acceptable

05.01.2022 Volunteers are the backbone of the Australian sporting industry. We would like to say a huge thank you very to all of our valuable volunteers who have helped get our Port Fairy basketballers back out on the court this year. We couldn’t have done it without you

05.01.2022 Return to sport update After the state governments announcement on Sunday, we are pleased to announce we are a little closer to being back on the basketball court. Although government restrictions state we will be able to return to a junior basketball competition as of June 22nd, we have been informed that Moyne Shire still have some preparations to do before we are allowed to play. These will not be complete by the June 22nd. ... The committee are all looking forward to training up refs and coaches, providing skills clinics, and getting a competition up and running as soon as we have the green light. We will continue to keep you informed and thank you all for your patience and understanding in the meantime

05.01.2022 Boys Aussie Hoops A reminder that our Aussie hoops program for boys recommences this morning. Please read emails sent to all participants reminding you of our Covid safety procedures. Please keep your child home if they are displaying any cold symptoms. Bring your runners, water bottles, and smiles. See you there

04.01.2022 Basketball Victoria COVID-19 Update - Monday 11 May The Victorian Government today announced some gradual easing of restrictions for Victorians that will come i...nto effect on Tuesday 12 May from 11:59pm. While basketball is a predominantly indoor sport, there are a number of ways that people can participate in basketball activities utilising community accessible outdoor courts and open spaces. Importantly, this must be done with a maximum of 10 people in any group activity, with no contact permitted, and applying social distancing and safe hygiene practices at all times. We appreciate the announcement doesnt allow for the use of indoor venues, however, we will continue to work with government to institute the appropriate guidelines that will see a return to indoor basketball at some stage in the very near future. In the meantime, we encourage everyone to take advantage of the opportunity to be active through basketball outside in a safe and respectful manner under strict compliance with the governments new restrictions. For further information on our COVID-19 updates for leagues and domestic basketball, visit the Basketball Victoria website - basketballvictoria.com.au/covid-19

03.01.2022 ***returning of old tops*** If players still have any of our old reversible singlets sitting around in drawers at home, can they please be returned to the stadium. Claire will be there Saturday morning from 9-10 with Aussie hoops and they can be returned then, otherwise, please return them on Wednesday night during the competition. Thanks ... PFBA See more

03.01.2022 Whilst we were all disappointed that the planned basketball season could not go ahead, the outcome of COVID-19 has had implications greater than any of us could have expected. It really does put things into perspective. Local businesses will be hit hard by this. If you are in a position to help in some way, please consider reaching out and supporting these businesses. Our elderly population is so vulnerable right now, so call your elderly neighbours and ask if they need help. If the COVID-19 pandemic is raising concerns for you please get in contact with one of the organizations below. Now is the time to band together and get through this. Our physical and mental health is the most important thing and as a community we can support each other.

03.01.2022 **REGISTRATIONS STILL OPEN** We are keeping our registrations open until 5pm Tuesday 21st July. We will be completing teams and draws Tuesday evening so this will be the very last chance to get your childs registration in.

03.01.2022 The PFBA committee is pleased to be offering a Level 0 Referee course. We would love to see you there, and eventually on the court in your stripes!!

03.01.2022 Flyer for a second community coaches course for interested coaches. Please note error on advertisement, this course will be held on THURSDAY June 4th

02.01.2022 Wednesday night competition starts tomorrow night - 29th of July. Please see some lengthy but important details below. Please arrive 10 mins prior to your game time the first week to collect your playing top. Tops are to be worn with black shorts without pockets. KEEPING EVERYONE SAFE:... We need to do things differently to ensure everyones safety and to implement each program. Please do not bring your own basketball to the stadium. Basketballs provided by the PFBA will be sanitised prior to each game. Hand sanitising will be available at the court and to be used regularly. Anyone entering the court area needs to sanitise their hands as they enter. Players benches and the Score bench will be sanitised after each game, prior to the following game starting. Players are to bring their own drink bottle and not share with anyone else. Participants will need to adhere to entry/exit points in the stadium. Please enter via the main entrance and exit via the side door on the cricket oval side. If players are unwell, they cannot play and need to remain at home. No more than 20 adults can be in the stadium at any time therefore there will only be one parent/guardian per player allowed to spectate. Players will need to play their game and then leave the stadium immediately so cleaning can begin and not to delay the next game. Parents/guardians who do not stay to watch will need to be on time to collect children as they will not be able to wait inside the stadium. We thank you for your cooperation and look forward to having an exciting season!

02.01.2022 ***Return to Sport update*** To our basketball community. Unfortunately current restrictions still do not allow a return to indoor competitive sport. The committee are anticipating we will complete the short season we began back in term 3 as well as our Aussie Hoops programs, before the end of the year. We are considering a few options in order to make that happen. We are hopeful we will be permitted to start a new season early 2021 and that by then we will be able to offer a... seniors comp as well. Our young basketballers, their coaches, and our referees got off to a great start back in term 3, and we know how much so many of those children are missing their sport. We are committed to resuming the season at short notice in order to get them back on the court as soon as it is deemed safe to do so. Please keep an eye on our facebook page for any further return to sport updates, Thanks, PFBA committee https://basketballvictoria.com.au//return-to-sport-update/

01.01.2022 Basketball Australias return to play update Basketball Australia will make some further announcements in the coming weeks around initiatives to keep the basketball community engaged and inspired as we move towards a Return to Play.
