24.01.2022 Some of our members have been busy putting their carpentry skills to use for a member of the community who asked if we could make her some raised garden beds and a work table. Well done.

24.01.2022 We had a great social night last night, with special guest local photographer Jim Pevitt and members of the Koroit Lions Club. Congratulations to Port Fairy-Belfast Lions Anne Fry for her idea of a Pre-loved Art Show, Maka McCue for his idea of establishing a Lions Care program providing essential requirments for older adults in Monyana and Belfast Houses and Keith Dawson for his idea of purchasing and installing a Liberty Swing for children with mobility impairment. All three are shared recipients of the Port Fairy-Belfast Lions 2019 Bright Ideas Trophy. Thank you to all who contributed salads and desserts and a big thank you to the cooks who manfully took control of the BBQ -a sterling job, all those who helped with setting up and clearing away after and of course to the catering team.

23.01.2022 Just to remind you that the final date for holding a Little Tea has been extended to Thursday 25 June (this week) and the draw for the gift vouchers will take place on Friday at 12 noon at the Bendigo Bank Port Fairy, so there is still time to get a few people together if you havent done so already. If you have, Lion Wendy Hunter would appreciate any photos and/or anecdotes from the get together so she can put them in the upcoming edition of the Light. To date that the combined efforts of the members of the various Port Fairy groups involved have resulted in $7500 being raised, which is great given the circumstances but lets hope we can get it a little higher. If you have held a Little Tea event and not banked the donations yet, can you please do so by Thursday afternoon so that names of those donating $10 or more can go into the draw.

21.01.2022 Port Fairy-Belfast Lions Biggest Morning Tea coordinator Chris Hetherington, held a very successful LIttle Morning Tea, including a trade table and raised $380, a fantastic effort in these difficult times. The food looked delicious. Well done Chris.

20.01.2022 It is with regret that Port Fairy-Belfast Lions Club have decided to cancel the 2020/21 Annual Art Show due to take place at the end of December because of the uncertainty around the coronavirus restrictions and the need to keep members and the public safe. We hope that we will be able to resume the Annual Art Show in December 2021. We anticipate that with the enforced lockdown over recent months, there may be some tremendous artwork submitted next year. Thank you all previous contributors for their patronage of this event, which is a wonderful fund raiser for our clubs charity work. We hope everyone is keeping well and safe and look forward to a fantastic Art Show next year.

19.01.2022 Since the dreaded Coronavirus hit and we were advised to self-isolate, members of the Port Fairy-Belfast Lions Club have had to cancel or postpone a lot of the activities they are usually involved with around the community. However not all work has stopped, we have had a few members dealing with grant applications, organising food for those in need in the community and providing Easter eggs for the residents and staff at Belfast and Moyneyana houses. As restrictions are start...ing to ease slightly we are delighted to be joining the Port Fairy Biggest Morning Tea team and Port Fairy Rotary Club to encourage members to hold Lots of little morning teas, with a few friends or relations, to raise funds for the Cancer Council. Like the Port Fairy Biggest Morning Tea team, the Port Fairy-Belfast Lions Club usually hold a public Morning Tea for this event each year, but given the restriction on numbers and the impact of the coronavirus on individuals and businesses, it makes sense for all three groups to combine their efforts this year. You dont even have to have real people, virtual morning or afternoon teas could be held if you feel more comfortable with that at this stage. You can hold as many as you wish during the period (28 May to 22 June). It may be easier to have a couple of different event, say one for family and one for friends. You may not even want to hold an event but simply donate, thats fine too, just pop along to the Bendigo Community Bank in Port Fairy, or pay online - details are on the attached flyer. The attached flyer gives all the details on how the event will work and what to do with the donations you collect. Please note that if you hold a BMT little tea for the Lions Club, please make sure you indicate this when you pay the money into the bank as we need to know how much the club has raised. We do hope you will support us and participate in some way. All charities are going to be doing it tough this year, and anything we can raise will be a help.

17.01.2022 Raffle tickets for our Christmas hampers are selling like hotcakes. Not surprising when you see all the delicious goodies in them. We will be in Sackville Street again on Friday 6 December.

16.01.2022 The Port Fairy-Belfast Lions Club 36 Annual Art Show Opening Night will be 27 December 2019, held at the Senior Citizens Hall, Barclay Street Port Fairy. It runs until 4 January.

14.01.2022 On Monday 20 January, we will launching our Liberty Swing fundraising campaign at Fiddlers Green, Port Fairy at 11.15am. Please come along and support our project. The Liberty Swing provides children and young adults with mobility impairment the opportunity to experience a playground activity similar to abled bodied children. We are looking to raise between $54,000 and $60,000 to purchase and have the swing installed so this is our major project for the year. Our President Lion Keith Dawson will explain what a Liberty Swing is in more detail and why it is needed. We will then have a free BBQ and there will be information sheets available. We also hope to have a video showing the swing in action.

09.01.2022 It is with regret that Pory Fairy-Belfast Lions Club have decided to cancel their Easter Fair to comply with the recent restrictions placed on events where there will be 500 prople or more because of Covid 19. As a responsible community service club we believe that this is a necessary step for us to take to help to protect the public and our own members. Please take care and follow the hygiene and self isolation/social distancing recommendations. We look forward to resuming our activities in the not too distant future.

06.01.2022 We held the official launch for our Liberty Swing project today, a day later than scheduled because of the bad weather yesterday. 02.01.2022 We are EXCITED!!!, Our sincere thanks goes to all funding bodies that have supported our project, the purchase and installation of a Liberty Swing for children and young adults with mobility impairment. These are: Australian Lions Foundation Southwest Community Foundation... Pacific Hydro and Moyne Shire Community Grants funding.
