02.01.2022 This week has seen us celebrating #nationalvolunteersweek - because we know that the people who put in their own time and effort, free of charge to help their l...ocal communities are often thankless, and behind the scenes. Another member of the Sinclair Wilson Group who gives much of their so-called spare time for others is Warrnambool-based Accountant Simone Watts. Causes Simone contributes to includes: - Port Fairys Good Friday Appeal (2020 was the first year in Simones whole life she didnt spend Good Friday rattling tins in and around her home town) - Port Fairy RSL Sub Branchs book keeping needs - The Port Fairy Sea Scouts book keeping - Port Fairys annual Anzac Day Dawn Service Breakfast (again not this year, sadly). Simone is perhaps most passionate about the Port Fairy Agricultural, Pastoral, and Horticultural Society; she has been a Committee member for 17 years, Treasurer for 12, was named life member 2 years ago. Duties for the Committee extend beyond the annual Port Fairy Show day; they also provide camping accommodation and breakfast for Port Fairy Folk Festival patrons and maintain the grounds and buildings year-round. Keeping the Ag society and its events running is a true family affair; 8 of Simones family members contribute, including her husband (President) and her two children; daughter Alanna is Publicity Officer, and son Ben maintains equipment and the grounds (as pictured here with the family dog, Bowie). Family looms large when Simone reflects on why she gives so much back to her local community. "My parents and grandparents are very involved in the Port Fairy Community. I think it is important to give back as much as you can. "Anything we are involved with, we also volunteer our time for; over the years there has also been the Port Fairy Band, Library & the Port Fairy Surf Life Saving Club." Thank you to Simone and her family for ALL they put in to their local community - four generations of volunteerism is definitely something to celebrate!
