10.01.2022 LEARN HOW TO TELL A JOKE. At toastmasters we practice all sorts of skills. One of our members recently delivered this little gem. "Mark and Wade watching the sunset on their tractor whilst they had a chat on afternoon.... Mark says to Wade, I keep hearing on the radio and on TV, and in the papers about the stock market. But I still have no idea what it is or how it works. Do you know anything about it? Wade replies: How should I explain this to you... Let's say you buy some eggs for your farm, these eggs hatch and now you have chicks, these chicks grow up to be hens which lay more eggs out of which you get more chicks that then grow up to be hens and so on and so forth, until your farm is completely full of them. One day a big black flood ravages your land and takes all of them downstream. Then you sit and think to yourself: *Ducks!!... I should have gotten ducks! That’s what the stock market is like.

08.01.2022 Toastmasters Speech 23 SEP 19 ‘Where am I’ Stephen Black Stephen explained how two cultures, a world apart solved the problem of how to navigate at Sea. People used to remain safe at sea by not losing site of land, this was an approach adopted by the early Vikings. Then European cultures solved the problem of latitude by use of the sun and the North Staff.... The British man John Harrison solved the problem, in the early 18th century with an accurate clock, a sextant to measure the angle of the sun and an almanac of sun positions at different times and dates. On the other side of the world the Polynesians solved the problem through an understanding of waves and weather and oral tradition of tradition of understanding star positions at different times. A very interesting speech which highlighted the advancement of human knowledge by different cultures using alternate approaches. See more
