19.01.2022 Junior Country Week The 2021 Junior Country Week was again a fantastic success with Port Hedland Cricket Association sending an Under 14 team to compete in the 14C division and also sending 5 Port Hedland players to combine with Broome to compete in the Under 16 C division. The PHCA U14 team performed admirably with a number of younger players taking apart in their first Country Week Tournament and coming away with a hard fought win in the last game against Bunbury. The t...eam was Captained by Riley McGrath who managed the players on-field with outstanding maturity and leading by example on and off the field. There where a number fantastic individual performances with opening bowler Riley Gould being the 5th highest wicket taker for the week with a bowling average of 17.00, Austin Smirke performed well with bat managing a batting average of 34.00 for the week and hitting a six in the last over of to secure the win against Bunbury. Fielding was also a highlight with Linc Vile and Riley McGrath taking a number of important catches throughout the week and the whole team working hard in very hot conditions. The under 16 team was a fantastic success with Port Hedland teaming up with Broome to win the Under 16C division going undefeated for the week, there was again some outstanding individual performance with Benny Leonard from Port Hedland finishing as the 3rd highest run scorer with a total of 121 runs with an average of 60.50 and Cooper Marlow batting in the middle order finishing 9th with a total of 79 runs and averaging 39.50. The bowling attack led by Wyatt Wilson from Port Hedland who finished second on the wicket tally taking 7 wickets with a bowling average of 7.00. The boys worked hard for each other in the field against some quality opposition. Note, PHCA U16 Players Benny Leonard, Cooper Marlow, Wyatt Wilson, Macey McGregor, Michael Brooks Without the generous support of Port Hedland local businesses these opportunities for our young sportsmen becomes a very expensive exercise and would not be possible, the PHCA would like to recognise and thank the following sponsors.
