25.01.2022 Good afternoon, No doubt everyone is keeping abreast of the developments around the CORONAVIRUS (COVID19) situation. These are certainly interesting times for us all. At the moment I dont have anything additional to report to the school community, other than it is business as usual for us. I am pleased that everyone continues to attend, complete work, is staying on-task etc. We are in a slightly different contextual situation from mainstreams schools, however we still have ...students, staff, a regular instructional day and are part of the public education system. Port Hedland School of the Air must comply with any directions it receives from the Minister for Education and Training and the Director General of the Department of Education. Into the future we may need to look at how we do things such as teacher home visits, in-school activities, camps, excursions etc. If that is the case I will advise on the path we must follow based on the information received. In the interim please adhere to instructions issued from the various levels of Government, keep yourselves informed and stay safe. Best wishes. Michael Jennings (PRINCIPAL)

23.01.2022 Congratulations to our wonderful Music teacher of many years, Mrs Janet Gillingham-Kucera. This morning the Town of Port Hedland held the Australia Day Citizenship Ceremony and the Community Citizen of the Year Awards, recognising those individuals and groups who have contributed immensely to communal life. The Port Hedland Senior Community Citizen of the Year is Janet Gillingham, in recognition of her active role in the Hedland community for over 30 years as an Elected Member, generous and supportive community member and pioneer of the Pilbara Music Festival. 22.01.2022 After the rain comes wildlife. These creepy-critters, trying to enter the schoolroom, were sent in by students at Warrawagine Station in the eastern Pilbara. Thank you children.

21.01.2022 Good afternoon, Please be advised that: The Deputy Director General, Schools has authorised the closure of Port Hedland School of the Air Friday 7th February, 2020 in expectation of issuing a YELLOW ALERT at 9.00am tomorrow morning due to Tropical Cyclone Damien. No staff, students or parents can attend the school site until they are advised that it has been deemed fit for purpose and cleared to re-open.... Be safe everyone and lets hope we get plenty of lovely rain and not too much wind. See you next week. Michael Jennings (PRINCIPAL)

17.01.2022 The Pilbara has been the beneficiary of a lot of much-needed rain this year. Many of the childrens homes are looking fabulous, just like in these photographs sent to the school.

17.01.2022 It was a delight hosting the Hon Melissa Price MP - Minister for Defence Industry / Member for Durack at the school this morning. Always a great supporter of remote families, and the need for delivering a quality education to isolated children.

15.01.2022 Students enjoying each others company at Cape Keraudren, one hour east of Port Hedland, last weekend. It is encouraging to see life returning to normal for these young people. Happy children.

15.01.2022 My name is Philip Schubert and I lived at Pardoo Station from 1962 to 1966 before moving to Louisa Downs in the Kimberley in 1966. During that time I did correspondence lessons in 1963 and 1964, and remember well the opening of the School of the Air in Port Hedland. I was in Grade 7 when it opened and the oldest pupil. (Following are some Philip Schuberts photographs from around his home and of the original students on a camp at Mundabullangana Station, 70 kilometres west of Port Hedland, in 1964)

14.01.2022 The principal, and some colleagues from other local schools, travelled to Marble Bar PS for a series of meetings late last week. On the way, they were treated to a delicious morning tea at the delivery site of our 0-3 Playgroup, Limestone Station. Thank you to Ms Walker for hosting us. On the return journey to Port Hedland the touring party took in the sights of the beautiful Doleena Gorge.

14.01.2022 The Port Hedland School of the Air (Pilbara) Playgroup has got off to a flying start. Children and parents enjoy online sessions, blogs and social media interactions. Currently we have six little people enrolled from 0-3 years. Ms Walkers pastoral station-based classroom was all systems go delivering the programme today, with her own son busy at work too.

14.01.2022 So very relieved that Matilda Paull, one of our treasured Port Hedland School of the Air (Pilbara) Playgroup students, was found safely today. Thank you to everyone responsible. Best wishes to Matilda and her family. Michael Jennings (Principal)

14.01.2022 Hi everyone, It has been wonderful that all our children have been attending school so well in the recent circumstances. In our distance education context, it is safe for them to do so and our quality teaching and learning programmes can proceed through until the end of term as is. This is not the case for our counterparts in mainstream schools unfortunately at which attendance has plummeted this week. For the remaining fortnight of the school term, face-to-face opportunities... will continue to be suspended. Current advice from all authorities is for people to maintain social distance and stay home. If supplies need to be collected from the school thats fine, but regular visitations to the site cannot occur for now. The Director General of the Department of Education has issued the following instructions this morning and todays update is in keeping with them: Families are now encouraged to keep their children at home if they have the capacity to do so. The Government recognises there will still be families who need to send their children to school (ie. physically) to continue their learning during this period. These may include: Children of parents and carers who need their children to attend school to maintain employment. Children who live in families with aged relatives. Children where it is safer for them to be at school. As your principal, I am focusing on keeping high-level curriculum delivery occurring whilst protecting students, home tutors and staff from any potential risks at the same time. Thank you for your understanding and support in navigating through these uncertain times. Michael Jennings (PRINCIPAL)

13.01.2022 Mr Jonathan Kocaj is doing some excellent work with our students in the Coding Club. It takes place every Tuesday from 11.50am - 12.30pm. The children are very enthusiastic, and have been working hard programming their Microbits and Raspberry-Pis to do amazing things. One of this week's challenges was making the rainbow shine. Good job everyone!!!

Mr Edmunds of Mandora Station, then Hooley Station, and his family were part of our school community for almost twenty years having finished with us only a short time ago. Mr Edmunds was always very kind and welcoming to personnel visiting students in their homes throughout the Pilbara.... The school extends its deepest sympathy to Mrs Polly Edmunds, Robert, Sarah, Jennifer, extended family members and friends. Michael Jennings (Principal)
