25.01.2022 To put your minds at rest. Vets have been designated essential services. So your fur babies wont have to suffer during any further lock downs. But please if you are sick stay home. We can always speak over the phone or have someone else bring your baby in. Stay safe all.

25.01.2022 We think our son is amazing. He would walk into a paddock and the mares would walk the fenceline until he said hello. We might have a bias but it is always magic to watch our son... no...rather to watch a mare want to do anything Josh asks of her. This is what makes horses so special in our lives. They can be anything they want but they want to give to a person they trust. That is the beauty of horses. We can learn so much from them.

24.01.2022 Dogs are amazing.

23.01.2022 Something for everyone

22.01.2022 Just a little update for all those asking how our wee girl is going after breaking both her back legs. Well.it’s day 10 and she’s walking amazingly well. It really is a miracle. A BIG thanks to Dr Knight who put her back together as well as all her generous sponsors who donated towards her surgery. We raised a whopping $2300 of the total $4600 bill. Yay! It’s not too late if you want to donate just message me and I’ll forward our bank details. Thank you all for your kindness.... You gave her a second chance at life. Attached photos show her enjoying life and hanging out with her Mum. See video posted below showing her walking at her 10 day visit. See more

21.01.2022 Meet Daisy Daisy first came to see us for a second opinion of an ulcer she had on her eye. It was very serious and she was close to losing her eye completely. The cornea had melted away and the only thing stopping the eye from deflating was a little membrane holding all the fluid in. This membrane was bulging out and about to pop. Luckily for her we don’t just do orthopaedics here at Port Hedland Vet Hospital. We started the long process of repairing Daisy’s eye by taking a g...raft from her conjunctiva with a blood vessel still attached so as to feed it. We then sutured the graft onto the cornea using very small suture material. A very delicate and difficult surgery that allows the eye to heal over a period of weeks. Daisy visited us weekly for free to assess her progress. She loved visiting us in her custom made pram, brought by her sister from her after school job. After dealing with a major infection and several weeks later, we were able to separate the graft from its blood vessel and allow it to gain its nutrients from the cornea alone. We are happy to report that at her 12 week check up the graft is almost impossible to see as it now has turned completely into corneal tissue. Well done Daisy and her family for doing such a great job of nursing her back to health. Photos of the corneal graft, Daisy visiting in her pram and finally at home all healed. Yay!

21.01.2022 Is anyone travelling to Karratha in the near future that would be able to assist in delivering something for us? Please message or call the clinic if you can help. Thanks :o)

18.01.2022 Please help us find Ruby. Somebody must know something.

18.01.2022 Thank you to all our clients for your patience and understanding. These last few weeks have been incredibly busy and we apologise for having to juggle appointments and routine surgeries around to fit everyone in. We have had an extraordinary number of second opinion cases that have taken precedent due to the complexity of their injuries and illnesses.... We aim to fit all of you in as we do not wish any pets to suffer needlessly, this just means you may have to wait a little longer than usual to see Richard. You have all been amazing. Thank you P.s. picture of our miracle dog Difa. Watch out for his story to come

18.01.2022 To all our dachshund owners. Youll enjoy this

18.01.2022 Just a little update on our star patient Henry who went to Perth last week for emergency surgery to repair a shattered jaw. Thank you to Western Australian Veterinary Emergency and Specialty- WAVES for taking such great care of little Henry. He had a CT scan to determine the multiple fractures throughout his jaw and after a lengthy complicated surgery he is back together. His family are so thrilled to say hes getting a little better with each day. Hes staying in ICU for another few weeks while his jaw heals and they cant wait to have him back home with them. Get well soon Henry xx

18.01.2022 ***UPDATE*** Covid restrictions mean no pets on flights at this stage. His owners are driving him down so please say your prayers for them to get him down there safely and for him to get the surgery he needs. Thank you everyone for your care xx Is anyone flying to Perth today or tomorrow that can attach a cat to their ticket? All we need is their flight details and name. We desperately need to get this little guy to a specialist as he has a shattered jaw and we dont have equ...ipment small enough to put him back together. Please share Thanks See more

16.01.2022 Were still proud of our son Josh. To do this with a wild horse after 3 months is astounding. Even more so Josh and his partner Skye have brought this training to Queensland Australia at Knights equestrian. They have just taken on a new facility and its looking great.

16.01.2022 Interesting reading for those with allergies. Take home comments..Keep dog food in cool temperature controlled areas.

15.01.2022 How long does it take you to find the cat?

15.01.2022 Okay lets talk about the elephant in the room.I think we can all agree it was a poorly written article, not exactly front page newsworthy. A good journalist would have looked at both sides of the story and reported a more compassionate piece instead of bagging a small local business that is so important to this community. But whats most important here is all of you. Every single one of you who have supported us. Whether it be: Social media Telephone Email... In person You are whats important You are what this is all about Thank you For being you Thank you for all the love and hugs you have sent our way You are whats important! See more

14.01.2022 Were stocked up with all your favourites so come on in and make sure you have enough to get you through. We also have a new product in called Australian Creations which is basically the same as Vetalogica and Ivory coat but is only $120 for a 15kg bag. BONUS

13.01.2022 Many Happy Returns to our one and only superstar vet! Lets hope the coming year is a more happy and positive one. And here are just a few reasons why we love him; hes kind and caring, an excellent surgeon, and an all round bloody good vet.

11.01.2022 Remember The Horses Too The men who went to war for us and died so far away, are honoured and remembered well each April - Anzac Day. Our soldiers fought with h...ero strength, but let us not forget - who helped them through those horrid times of bomb and bayonet? The Remounts Section sourced the best - Australias finest Walers were led aboard a hundred steam ships - patient equine sailors. Oblivious to war ahead, they crossed the angry waves. Not all of them survived the trip, some sleep in ocean graves. The Brigadiers prancing mount, the troopers sturdy steed, the half-legs pulling water carts, gave strength, endurance, speed. The Waler took the trumpeter to call at Palestine. The heavy horse pulled medic carts behind the firing line. The gun horse hauled artillery to arm the troopers fight, while sections rode reconnaissance each dark and restless night. Through dust storms, scorching temperatures and shifting sand and hills they proved that they had hearts of gold, with courage, nerve and wills. The horses saw the desperate times when death was all around. They galloped through the screaming injured, thrashing on the ground. They were shot at, strafed by German planes, felt shrapnel each grenade. The wounded, frightened horses fell as Turk machine guns sprayed. All did their job, and did it well, with little hope of rest. The saddle taken off at night was thanks they got at best. A pat, and "Thanks, good on ya mate," a nosebag with some corn, a quick lay down, a few hours sleep, then back to war at dawn. So many stories have been told - heroic acts of horses who double-backed the injured men and dashed through Turkish forces. Then when the war was finished, all the troopers clapped and cheered, but what about the horses, that they loved and so revered? Their horse was friend and comrade, through the thick of war and thin. The Aussie politicians wouldnt let them come back in. They said, "Because of quarantine, and massive costs involved, youll have to leave your mounts behind." The troopers cheers dissolved. The war was done. The men could leave that nightmare combat zone, but first, they had to take the lives of those whod saved their own! The younger mounts were volunteered to Indias command. Those over four were shot, and left to perish in the sand. The horses of the 3rd Brigade were killed in Tripoli. They lined them up in olive groves, then shot them. Tears ran free. Each marksman fired, and wished the horse had died while serving war, to lay the blame on enemy - instead his own heart tore. The horses frightened screaming rose above the gunshot rattle, and left the men with lifelong scars, of killing after battle. A thankless way to thank each horse for service in the sand, and fearless dedication shown to save our precious land. One hundred and eighty thousand horses gave their blood and lives, to help return our troopers to their children and their wives. They gave their all, then still found more brave gallantry to give. Theyd never see green fields again, or come back home to live. Were grateful for the Anzacs and their sacrifice as well. We know the wars were brutal and the soldiers went through Hell. So honour fallen loved ones and the friends we never knew, but I ask you, every Anzac Day ... remember the horses, too ... by Kym Eitel Pictured- Pinnacle Peak Waler Studs boy Trublu Trail Blazer- Bobby

09.01.2022 For the 2nd time in less than 18 months, Richard and Michelle at Port Hedland Vet Hospital have bought our beloved Kato back from the brink of death!! 1st time ...he was very badly mauled by a wild dog, smashed jaw, leg ripped out of its socket, and bite puncture wounds all over. Last night he was bitten by a Gwarder and was haemorrhaging badly, collapsed veins, the whole nine yards. Nearly two hours you worked to bring Kato back to life!! Theres just no words to thank you for the miracles youve worked on Kato. We pray his curiosity is permanently satisfied now, as one has to wonder how many lives hes burned up!!

09.01.2022 Escaping up north this school holidays? If youre travelling with your dog to northern Western Australia, theres a few things you need to know. A serious dog disease called ehrlichiosis has been found in parts of the Kimberley and more recently in the Pilbara. This disease occurs when an infected brown dog tick bites a dog. Dog owners can help to stop this disease spreading to other parts of WA with these simple steps: Before you go on holidays, see your vet about putting ...your dog on a tick control program. Follow the packet instructions exactly or the treatment may not work. Ensure your dog is treated for at least three weeks after returning from the Kimberley and Pilbara. Tick treatment doesnt always kill the ticks straight away, so you should check your dog for ticks every day while in the Kimberley and Pilbara especially around the neck, head, ears, armpits, belly and in between toes and carefully remove ticks to reduce the risk of infection. Check your dog is healthy before leaving the Kimberley and Pilbara. See a vet if your dog is showing any signs of ehrlichiosis. https://www.agric.wa.gov.au/ehrlichiosis

01.01.2022 To all our loyal clients: While some of you are aware, many may not be aware that Dr Knight has been under investigation by our Veterinary Surgeons Board of WA. I wanted the chance to explain the facts and make it clear that we have nothing to hide. Three years ago there were a number of non-factual and vexatious complaints made against Dr Knight to the Vet Surgeons Board by disgruntled ex-employees. It took the board more than 2 years to provide us with the particulars of th...Continue reading
