25.01.2022 A second community lantern making workshop will be held this Saturday 5th June in the school hall. Please note we have changed the time to 1-3pm as we had feedback that many people have activities in the morning. Students of PKPS are making lanterns in class at school. This workshop is a chance for other family and community members who might not have a lantern to use on the night. All materials and instructions provided!
24.01.2022 Our Stage 3 students were very lucky to have a talk with 'Officer Jo' and 'Officer Tammy' today about cyber bullying and online safety. Many alarming facts were shared and I'm sure our students will be making some smart decisions when using their devices.

21.01.2022 We have just had a message from a parent saying that a survey company is in Wentworth Street taking votes on projects submitted to the Port Kembla Community Investment Fund. We have a submission in for $34,000 for solar panels so it would be great if you could vote for our project. It looks as though every resident who votes gets a $20 voucher to spend at the Pizza Kebab shop. They are set up outside the Pizza kebab shop and will be there until 5 pm. Thank you

15.01.2022 Hi Parents, just letting you all know that we had a fire evacuation drill today. If you heard the alarms going off or if your children mention it to you this afternoon, that's what it was. All students and staff were safely evacuated in accordance with guidelines and are all back in their classrooms. Thank you.
15.01.2022 Last week Room 3 and Room 4 worked with Room 10 in the new STEM room. Our very clever Year 6 students demonstrated how to use the Makey Makey kit as a piano and as a controller to play a game they had coded using Makecode arcade. What great collaboration, problem solving and leadership our students demonstrated. What is Makey Makey? An invention kit designed to connect everyday objects to computer keys. Using a circuit board, alligator clips, and a USB cable, Makey Makey uses closed loop electrical signals to send the computer either a keyboard stroke or mouse click signal. You can turn a banana into a piano, create game controllers, invent musical instruments and light up paper circuits and so much more. If you are interested in learning more about Makey Makey, check out: https://makeymakey.com/

13.01.2022 Today is the beginning of Education Week for 2020. Because this year is a little different and we are unable to invite parents and our school community into our classrooms, we have instead put together an Education Week virtual showcase on our school website. The videos are very varied, so we encourage you to watch each of them including the ones that don’t have your child in them, so you can get a sense of the many different aspects to our classroom activities, how wonderful our students are and how happy they are when they are participating at school and the great job our teachers are doing. Click the below link to view our showcase: https://ptkembla-p.schools.nsw.gov.au//education-week-2020

05.01.2022 2020 Scholastic Book Fair is here! This year our 2020 Scholastic Book Fair will be held in the library during week 8 (next week). While parents and carers unfortunately cannot attend, students will still have the opportunity to purchase from the fair. Students can bring cash for payments or parents/carers can use the Scholastics online payment service. Students will all be visiting the book fare this week to browse and are welcome to complete a wish list form to note the book...s they would like to purchase with the price of their books noted down. They can then bring this wish list home to discuss with you and on the reverse side is an option to make your online payment. Please ensure you note your 8-digit receipt number on either form. Your child can then bring the form to the Book Fair as payment for their books. There are also stationary items available that range from $4-$10. Thank you to all those families who take the opportunity to purchase from Scholastic Book Fair. It is a great fundraiser for the school as 20% of all sales go back to our school to purchase new books. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me. Ms Cram Teacher Librarian

04.01.2022 Year 6 Tunnel of Friendship - Wednesday 16th December This year we would like to farewell our Year 6 students with a goodbye they deserve. We are still under strict COVID guidelines/restrictions but feel Year 6 should not miss out on this special event. We will have a modified version this year where all the kindergarten to Year 5 students will make a long line standing outside their classrooms for the Year 6 students to walk past, as they are cheered and clapped (Room 11 an...d kindergarten will stand along the admin building facing the street). The students will then walk to the stairs near the hall where the old school bell will be, they will give three rings of the bell and will then exit via this bottom gate. We are aware that many parents would like to share in this and we invite you to stand along the outside of the school fence (facing the admin building) at 2:40pm. Can you please be mindful of social distancing and not crowd around the exit. Regards, Lucie Robson
