01.01.2022 PORTLAND UPGRADES SO CLOSE THEY CAN ALMOST TOUCH IT; Work is set to start on the construction of a new clubhouse for the Portland Touch Football Association. Th...e new facility is certainly going to be a far cry from old shipping container that doubled as their headquarters at Saville Park. Member for Bathurst said the development application for the project has been approved by Lithgow City Council and now it was time to get on with the job. The $500,000 upgrade has been made possible thanks to funding from the NSW Government, announced as a 2019 election promise by Member for Bathurst Paul Toole. The clubhouse includes features such as accessible spectator toilets, player amenities, a meeting room, storage space, spectator viewing area and canteen facilities. Mr Toole said a site next to the local swimming pool on Williwa Street has been chosen as the location for the building. Portland loves its sport and these upgrades will not just assist Portland Touch Football Association but transform Saville Park to benefit the entire Portland sporting community, Mr Toole said. According to Portland Touch president Geoff Stait the site was chosen because of its close location to services such as power, sewer and water. We’re really hoping to get started this month and after Christmas and New Year have plumbing and footings started by about February, Mr Stait said. It’s about a two to three month build because everyone comes on site prefabricated. One thing for sure, it’s going to be a big upgrade compared to the old shipping container we’ve used for 35 years. The new clubhouse will even have air conditioning. How good will that be.
