10.01.2022 Mental As Everything is an original new stage show by Melbourne based writer, musician and performer, Damon Smith. Our patrons will remember Damon from his performance in the sell out "Sun Rising: The Songs That Made Memphis" back in early 2020, and know his incredible talent at the piano, and his charming and engaging story-telling style. His personal experiences of both OCD and Bipolar disorder have helped Damon develop a transparency regarding these two widely misunderst...ood disorders, and create a show that blends comedy and music alongside an honest and thought-provoking narrative. In this two-man show, Damon and his anxious musical cohort, Adam Coad, will take the audience on a brilliantly unique journey inside their own heads, with hilarious onstage buffoonery and songs pertaining to Mental Illness. Mental As Everything, features both original music and a few existing songs, written by well-known artists that have experienced mental illness. Join us for what is sure to be an unforgettable night full of laughs, big feelings and catchy tunes on Saturday 22 May, 7:30pm Book now at www.portlandartscentre.com.au or call 03 5522 2263

09.01.2022 We are pleased to announce the Connected Community Project! The Connected Community Project is a community arts initiative that is launching to celebrate and showcase the unique life experiences and diversity of all residents in the Glenelg Shire. The project has a focus on connecting our community, especially after the past few months which has increased social isolation and disconnectedness for many through the disruption of work, social and family life. To be involved in ...the project all you have to do is pop into a Customer Service Centre (puzzles are now available at Portland Customer Service and will be available in Casterton and Heywood next week) and collect a puzzle piece which you can decorate however you wish. Some examples include short written responses, photos, images, drawings and painting. After decorating your piece, drop it back into a Customer Service Centre by 1 December 2020. Each puzzle piece will then be curated into a shared community puzzle which will be available to view online and in printed formats. The Connected Community Project coincides with Victorian Seniors Festival 2020, Social Inclusion Week and the annual International Day of People with a Disability celebrations. The project is open to all and we encourage you to ‘add your piece to the puzzle’.
