25.01.2022 GREAT SOUTH WEST WALK RECEIVES EMERGENCY BOOST Walking along the Great South West Walk has just become a whole lot safer thanks to a new joint agency initi...ative. A series of emergency markers have been installed along the Walk from Portland through to Nelson to help improve the response time and coordination by emergency service organisations. The markers, positioned at key points along the 250km walking loop, will allow people to quote a unique number to 000, providing an exact location in the event of an emergency. The emergency markers are a joint initiative by Council, Parks Victoria, Ambulance Victoria, Victoria Police, CFA and VIC SES.

25.01.2022 Our units are still responding, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year to keep our communities safe. If you need assistance from VICSES, call 132 500.

22.01.2022 Join us this Saturday 6th of February 11am-2pm for a volunteer information session

22.01.2022 Please be careful and follow directions of road signs during this weather. It’s disappointing to see vehicles crossing flood ways that have sign right there saying Road Closed because of flowing water across the road. Please think of the dangers this could cause and the domino effect it could have on others. Take care

20.01.2022 Training with Dartmoor, Heywood and Portland ses unit last Thursday night. It’s great to have our 3 local units working together to up skill for when our community is in need .

15.01.2022 Tonight’s Portland & Heywood combined training was at the hospital. SWAHS (roof top) training had everyone on their toes refreshing their skills

14.01.2022 Yesterday afternoon, a cold front passed over the South West, bringing damaging winds, hail and rain. Wind gusts over 100 km/h were recorded at Cape Otway. The ...system then moved towards Melbourne and over the East of the state. Since then, VICSES has received over 2,900 requests for assistance with a large number of jobs still active, mostly in Melbourne’s east. Tragically, we also learnt that three people lost their lives as a result of this storm, and we send out deepest condolences to the victims’ families and friends. In the South West, volunteers from 18 units responded to over 230 requests for assistance, mostly relating to trees over roads and damage to property. SES Bellarine Unit, SES Colac Unit & SES Torquay Unit were our busiest units with crews working well in to the night and morning. We would like to thank all of our members for their hard work and commitment, and a special thanks to members who travelled to their neighbouring areas to assist. We would also like to thank a number of local CFA brigades who provided a huge amount of assistance, ensuring we could respond to community needs as soon as possible. #weworkasone Take care everyone

14.01.2022 It was great having the Portland and Heywood crews come together Thursday night for training. One of our main focus’s was social distancing and following COVID-19 guildlines. A big congratulations to Michelle Gunning and John Sterling on receiving their 10year service awards.

13.01.2022 A clear, crisp night tonight provided a perfect opportunity to complete the final assessment stand for 3 recent recruits to be assessed for their 'Crew Member Supervised' requirements. The completion of this assessment permits them to actively participate in many operational activities. The rest of the team set up a 'Safe Works At Heights System' (SWAHS) to retrieve a branch that was conveniently located on one of our training officers' shed roof.

12.01.2022 Tonight’s training at the Portland unit was a refresher on using the lighting trailer
