In what has been an extremely complicated senior year, we are delighted to report that an impressive 52% of our total results were in the A and B bands. This number includes our Year 11 students who completed Research Project this year. Special mentions must go to Talia Robinson and Jock Carr on achieving Merit scores Talia achieved this outs...tanding result in two subjects (Physics and Chemistry), while Jock’s Merit was attained in Visual Arts Design. 10.01.2022 WELCOME TO THE 2021 SCHOOL YEAR... Dear Parents and Caregivers, I would like to welcome all of you to the 2021 school year. To our new families, a special welcome; we are pleased that you have decided to join us. To our continuing families, welcome back. I hope that everyone had a restful, enjoyable and most importantly, safe summer holiday.... The school year starts at 8:40am on Wednesday January 27th with a whole school assembly in the Gymnasium. Staff will be in the yard to support students as they enter the school grounds. The assembly will conclude before 9am and students will then move off in to sub-schools where they will be introduced to their Dharna Group teachers. At the whole school assembly, I will be speaking with the students and staff about the following: * The installation of a memorial to Patrick Ryan; this will be on an exterior wall of the Administration building next to the front door * Continued building as part of our $15 million redevelopment, which is on track for a December 2021 handover * Aquatics camps that begin in Week 2 for all Year 8 students * ABC Radio will be broadcasting live from the school site in the morning of Wednesday January 27th; the host, Emma Pedler, will interview selected staff and students * The staff have decided to enforce a new policy that removes access to student mobile phones during school time; this significant change in direction will be facilitated by an external company called Yondr to support the transition to mobile phone free learning; parents and caregivers will be able to leave a message for a student by ringing the school, contacting the student’s Dharna Group teacher via SEQTA Engage or contacting the student directly via SEQTA Learn; we are seeking parental and caregiver support on this policy change that is designed to foster improved student engagement and result in better learning outcomes and wellbeing * Further air-conditioning installed over the holidays means that the vast majority of learning spaces have access to temperature control; as a result, the school will revoke its early closure due to hot weather policy * School photos will be taken early in Term 1; information packs will be handed out in the coming days If you have any questions regarding the commencement of the school year, please contact your relevant Dharna Group teacher through SEQTA Engage or phone the school on 8683-6000. Office hours are Monday to Friday from 8am until 4pm. Yours sincerely, Todd George (PLHS Principal)

05.01.2022 NEW SIGNAGE FOR TLC... In what has been a very busy period for our Transition & Learning Centre (TLC), the Edinburgh Street facility has recently been given an updated look through the installation of some fresh signage (pictured). The graphics for the striking new look were designed by Year 12 Design student Ethan Cowley, as one of his two major practical projects for the year. The logo uses a series of arrowheads to symbolise transition and the search for alternative pathwa...ys, with the red arrow highlighting the learning focus that the TLC provides. The new branding has been very well received - congratulations to Ethan and the TLC staff/students on this successful collaboration.

04.01.2022 YEAR 9's DELIVER "PETER PAN-TO"... By week’s end, our talented Year 9 Pantomime students will have presented nine separate performances of Peter Pan to more than 1,000 children from all over the Lower Eyre Peninsula. We have been thrilled that our Panto has even gone ahead, with COVID restrictions looking quite threatening at one point; this excitement has transferred onto the stage. From the outset, we put our own twist on this familiar tale of the boy who never wanted to ...grow up, bringing the story into the 21st century. The fifty Panto students have spent the semester preparing, painting, decorating, rehearsing and crossing their fingers that it would all go ahead, and they have done a fantastic job! Many thanks need to go to Mr Stephen Campbell, Ms Creena Scholz, Mrs Annette Kelson, Sean Proude, Casey Peters, Quinn Dutschke, all of our SSO staff, Ms Hanna Minchin, Year 10 students who filmed the performances, and any others who have helped in any way. We have had a brilliant time! Safe journey! ~ Mrs Helen Marks (Panto Director) * LOTS MORE PHOTOS OF THIS YEAR'S PANTO CAN BE FOUND ON OUR WEBSITE AT: https://www.plhs.sa.edu.au/year-9s-deliver-peter-pan-to/

01.01.2022 TLC SUPPORTS NATIONAL YOUTH WEEK & FOODBANK... As it was National Youth Week last week, some of the students at the TLC got together and decided that they wanted to celebrate by fundraising for Foodbank and challenging the PLHS Staff to a game of Turbo Touch. On Monday, we were lucky enough to play some of the teachers in a game that was fast-paced and closely matched on the PLHS Hockey Field. We appreciate them giving up their time to play us.... On Thursday, TLC staff and students cooked up some schnitzel burgers to help fundraise for Foodbank. The students are also working on some can and bottle recycling to add to the fundraising. ~ Jevan Horton & Ange Perin (TLC)
