25.01.2022 Heading off camping, bushwalking or planning to enjoy our parks this weekend? Here are some tips from us to help keep you safe when spending time in bushland s...ettings. Before you set out: Make sure you wear enclosed footwear and long pants Carry at least two large elasticised crepe bandages Brush up on your CPR skills Keep your mobile phone with you and ensure it is fully charged If someone has been bitten by a snake: Remember to treat all snake bites as serious Keep the patient still no walking! Immediately call Triple Zero (000) for an ambulance Quickly and firmly apply a broad pressure bandage over the entire length of the bitten limb. Note on the bandage roughly where the snake bite is Be alert for changes in the patient’s condition, like sudden cardiac arrest.

23.01.2022 Just after 1pm today Port Lincoln State Emergency Service received a request for assistance for a vessel that suffered mechanical issues at Mclaren Point. Three marine crew responded with two communications members at the unit. The vessel was located just south of McLaren point in the cove. On a rival they assessed the situation and commenced a tow to return back to Billy light boat ramp.... Many thanks to both the volunteers and their employers who allow them to respond during business hours to keep our community safe.

23.01.2022 Port Lincoln State Emergency Service volunteers responded to assist a vessel between Point Sir Isaac and Coles Point after midday yesterday. Once the vessel was located Yakata 81 commenced the tow around 5pm arriving back to the sheltered waters of Coffin Bay at 8pm. A communications crew maintained radio contact throughout the tow plotting the progress on a marine chart.... Part of the restorage of our vessels required a crew to meet Yakata back in Port Lincoln Marina for refueling from the fuel trailer and being put back on the Aqua boat lift ready for the next request for assistance. So as you can see being a volunteer in the SASES is a team effort, from being on the water to radio communications to refueling. Many thanks to all volunteers who responded today, your commitment to your community doesn't go unnoticed. To all employers who allowed our members to respond we appreciate your ongoing support.

The Total Fire Ban will apply for 24 hours from midnight tonight to midnight tomorrow. The CFS recommends that you implement your Bushfire Survival Plan. In making your plan, you should be aware that in high fire danger conditions, essential services including mains-fed electricity and water supply may not be available due to the prevailing weather conditions. Landowners are asked to adhere to local harvest codes of practice which are available from your local council. Agencies are advised to activate their Total Fire Ban procedures in preparation for these predicted fire weather conditions. 02.01.2022 We often get enquiries as to the types of requests for assistance Port Lincoln State Emergency Service attend to.

02.01.2022 In the lead up to International Men’s Day this Thursday, we’re shining a spotlight on some of the men at the SA State Emergency Service. They will share some of... the highlights of being an SES volunteer as well as what they would say to others out there who are thinking about joining the SES. Say hello to Desmond, a volunteer at the Sturt SES Unit. Enlisting in the SASES was possibly the best decision I made since my wife and I moved to SA last year. The SASES provided me with an opportunity to learn and understand the Australian culture through engagement with unit members and with the community at large. There is a great sense of camaraderie and partnership between members and the same is awarded to new members creating a very inclusive and welcoming environment. Desmond says to others out there thinking about joining the SES that there are opportunities to network, upskill and review skills, engage and interact with the community, increase social inclusion, develop a new sense of purpose and motivation, build self-confidence and self-esteem, and much more!

02.01.2022 Volunteers from the Port Lincoln State Emergency Service have responded to their second request for assistance for the day. The first call came early this morning where a vehicle became bogged in the Lincoln National Park. We responded a crew to its location and were able to assess that we could assist by clearing sand, using Maxtrax and airbag to get the vehicle onto hard ground. Remember when travelling through any of our national parks to keep an eye for the wildlife wh...o want to get in on the action. The second request for assistance was to a single vehicle rollover between Mt Hope and Sheringa. En route we received a stop call that the person was out of the vehicle and being treated by SA Ambulance. Many thanks to the volunteers from the Port Lincoln State Emergency Service on call 24/7 365 days a year ready to respond.
