24.01.2022 This wonderful photo comes from the SA Library and shows a car being unloaded from the MV Minnipa in 1929 at the Kirton Point wharf in Port Lincoln. It was exciting picking up our new car recently, I can't imagine waiting for it to arrive on a ship.

23.01.2022 Port Lincoln and Eden share a history of the tuna fishing industry in Australia. Back in the day when tuna were poled rather then farmed a lot of the fishermen would do the season in Eden before heading home for the Port Lincoln season. An old fisherman friend showed me this hill and told me how it was known as 'The Goat Track'. This was the quickest way back to the boat after a day at the pub. I can only imagine the stories and the skin that may of been removed. The fisherman's wharf is now being extended for cruise ships.

23.01.2022 Anzac Eve Presentation of 'Gallipoli' presented by the Port Lincoln History Group Come and share a historical experience with an outdoor showing of the 1981 hit movie 'Gallipoli', much of which was filmed locally with local extra. Bring a blanket and the family and see who you can spot anyone you know.

23.01.2022 On This Day in 1954 Queen Elizabeth visited Port Lincoln.

23.01.2022 With these last warm days, I hope we are all getting out and enjoying our beautiful environment. This photo is in 1917 by the town jetty.

20.01.2022 With the Santos Tour Down Under on in Adelaide at the moment it made me think of my grandfather, Phil Bascombe and his 4 brother-in-laws, Hugh, Jack, Bruce and Peter Johnson who were big in cycling in Port Lincoln back in the day. Long roaad races generally started in front of the town hall or the Northern Hotel. Races were also held at Centenary Oval. Which explains the sloping sides where the cars now park.

20.01.2022 I am looking for photos from the filming of the Gallipoli movie. I understand you weren't allowed to take photos but I know a few sneaky one were managed so if you or family or friends were there and have photos or memories to share please get in contact with me.

18.01.2022 Stopped into the Black & Bull Hotel, Adelaide's first permanent pub established 1838 and found this little gem on the wall. Who knew hey?

06.01.2022 Port Lincoln proudly holds the title of holding the longest regional festival. Our Tunarama Festival celebrates our fishing industry. This year we have 7 amazing Tunarama Ambassadors busily fundraising for their chosen charities. Last Sunday I had the pleasure of taking them for a stroll while they learnt the history of Port Lincoln and their interest and enthusiasm was inspiring. Good Luck to them all, they are all winners.

01.01.2022 2018 or 1883 the weather is always top conversation at this time of the year. South Australian Weekly Chronicle, Sat 2 June 1883, pg 23 Port Lincoln May 25 The showers and heavy rain squalls which have fallen during the last week have made business in Lincoln very dull, but if the township has been more than ordinarily quiet the seasonable weather has kept the farmers in good humor, and every available team has been employed in agricultural work. Everything here promises well for an excellent season, and with such a hopeful future we can well bear with a short and only apparent stagnation.
