22.01.2022 Just in case you didn’t see the news this morning...

22.01.2022 Here are 8 reasons to enjoy square dancing. It is: So much fun that you will be smiling within minutes, laughing and wanting to keep on dancing. Great ph...ysical exercise, involving almost constant movement without begin overly tiring, as you step in time with the music forming moving patterns with the other dancers in your square. Good mental exercise: learning each step, reacting to what the caller says and participating in the endless shapes that result. The challenge is in not knowing what comes next; the next step is called out to you. Easy to learn, providing a great sense of accomplishment and teamwork. Danced to enjoyable music including Rhythm and Blues, Golden Oldies, Gospel, Rock, Country and Western, Holiday Songs, Current favorites and even Classical tunes. A stress reducer. If you make a mistake, half the fun is figuring out how to get where you need to go. We laugh as we learn. A fine way to meet people and make new friends. It is more social than other dances since you dance with three other changing couples in your square. An activity that can be done by anyone in reasonable shape. You do not have to be graceful or coordinated to square dance. You don’t have to worry about stepping on your partner’s toes, because you are usually going in different directions. No fancy footwork is required.

17.01.2022 It can’t solve COVID-19 but hopefully it will help to get through to the other side...!! Stay strong and we hope to all be back soon....!

13.01.2022 We would like to advise dancers that Riverside 8's - Port Macquarie Square Dance Club will NOT be operating for the rest of 2020. Due to the requirements of operating under Covid restrictions we feel in the interest of dancers health it would not be wise to operate. At this stage we are looking to recommence in February 2021. We will look at the situation early next year. We thank everyone for your support and hope you all stay safe until we get back on the dance floor.

12.01.2022 No further updates on return to dancing dates. NSW square dance clubs still not able to function on a normal basis. We will keep you posted as news comes to hand. Stay safe and hopefully we will be back on the dance floor in the near future.

11.01.2022 Good for Body and Mind With all its moving, twisting, and turning, square dancing provides more than the daily dose of heart- and bone-healthy physical activity.... Remembering all the calls -- from "do-si-do" to 'alemand' --helps keeps the mind sharp, potentially staving off age-related memory loss, experts say. And the companionship that regular square dancing offers may work as an antidote to depression and loneliness, a statement confirmed by square dancing advocates everywhere. See more

11.01.2022 Can be addicted to both.

10.01.2022 To Square Dance organisations throughout Australia. Good evening, good day, greetings, The following statement has been prepared by the Australian National Squ...are Dance Convention Board for immediate release to all dancers through your organisation’s network of members, publications and social media. I realise that some states may have already distributed the final edition of your newsletter for the year but it would be appreciated if you could see your way clear to distribute this statement as I’m sure you will agree that it will be in the best interest of all dancers to receive the information as soon as possible. We would be grateful if you could please distribute or forward without amendment. Attached is a poster image that you are encouraged to use to accompany the statement. 07.01.2022 More COVID-19 news. But still no dancing until the 4sqm rule is relaxed.

05.01.2022 DARWIN 2021 NATIONAL CONVENTION URGENT UPDATE To everyone who has already registered and those who were going to. It is with heartfelt disappointment and sadn...ess that we have to inform you that we can no longer ‘Live our Dream’ in Darwin 2021. Due to Covid-19 it has become apparent that it isn’t in the best interest of anyone’s health to hold our 62nd National Convention next year. This decision has been a very difficult one and agreed on by the Darwin Committee and the Australian National Square Dance Conventions Board. There will of course be a full refund available to everyone who has already registered and paid. Updates regarding future National Conventions will be provided by the ANSDC Board once the Board has considered all factors and completed their careful deliberations. We would like to sincerely thank you all for the support shown for the Darwin National Convention and hope that we will all meet on the dance floor in the not too distant future. Very sincerely Marilyn van Sambeeck Convenor 62nd Australian National Square Dance Convention September 2020 See more

04.01.2022 This could happen to you...!! Once you start Square Dancing you will love it too....take your family to a class near you.....We are slowly getting back to normal so look out for new Classes near you.

04.01.2022 Returning to Square Dancing an update from Ausdance Number limits in classes: Parents, carers and instructors / assistants do not count in the 20 limit. Howeve...r if you are holding a performance the 4,2 rule applies. Venues can now have 50% capacity. Switching Participants Ausdance NSW guidelines do not recommend switching participants, especially during a class. The medical advice / researchers we have been working with advise that mixing groups can lead to greater chance of cross contamination. Also, the additional cleaning required as a new group enters may be too difficult to maintain for a studio owner. Where possible, the Ausdance guidelines as written in collaboration with medical professionals advise that no drop-in classes be held rather that people book in for regular classes and that these classes don’t change week to week. COVID Safety Marshall This only applies to gyms, so as long as you and your staff are aware of the COVID restrictions and your COVID Safety plan, you are ok.

03.01.2022 SARDA have been in contact with the Department of Health. Definitely not up to square dancing in NSW yet but we will keep checking as the government updates th...eir restrictions. However, Round Dancing could go back providing you are dancing with the person you live with and you maintain social distancing from each couple while dancing and during breaks. Government directive is no more than 20 participants, plus the instructor and any assistants, per space and comply with one person per 4 square metres and comply with 1.5 metres physical distance. Of course the facility you are hiring needs to be onboard as well. This would probably require a Covid Safe Plan. .

03.01.2022 Have you registered for the 41st NSW State Convention

02.01.2022 I am writing today to let you know that the VSDA and 2021 State Convention Committee have made the difficult and disappointing decision to cancel the Victorian ...State Convention in 2021. This decision wasn't easy to make and wasn't one that was made lightly. Unfortunately due to the current rules and advice from both Sports Victoria and local councils of what the future holds we are unlikely to be allowed to have an event within Victoria with more than 20 people indoors and full contact in March 2021. We were in the position of not knowing if it would be approved until 14 days before the event due the process of the Covid action plan application. Additionally we wanted to give everyone of you the opportunity to get a refund with your accommodation and travel by giving you plenty of notice to cancel rather than cancelling at the last minute. Please be aware that this event is cancelled and not postponed. The reason for this decision is that we do not know when or where we will be allowed to have another large event within Victoria ie regional or metro. We appreciate that this is a situation none of us saw we would be in at the start of March pre-lockdown nor did anyone imagine we would not be dancing for 9 months or more. It is unique and it is the first time that the VSDA has cancelled an event and this is not something we want to happen again. We will not be keeping any money to hold over to 2022 for future ticket sales as the VSDA has decided to put all future event planning on hold until the Covid situation allows us to hold large events again. All refunds will be processed over the next month. I would like to say thank you to each of you our dancers, as well as my committee members for their assistance over the last 12 months in the planning and preparation for this event. Thanks goes to the 2021 Committee Glen Cassar, Andrew Verhoef, Mike Davey, Alison Tuddenham, Racheal Holland, Rachel Egan, Clare Kirby and Rick Mason for their time, effort and support. Thank you for your support and understanding. Warm regards, Sasha Boon VSDA State Convention Convenor 5-8th of March 2021, St Arnaud Victorian State Square Dance Convention
