25.01.2022 #MemberMonday Steve has grown up around Rotary and has been involved in one way or another for all his life, as his family were Rotary members so Steve would often tag along and help his parents when they were volunteering. In 1990-91 Steve went to Japan as a Rotary Youth Exchange participant, staying in Rankoshi, a small town in the northern parts of Japan where the weather is -26 for six months of the year. Steve's year as an exchange student taught him to be flexible, ac...cepting, be ready for anything and he came home a mature and independent young man. Steve fell in love with Japan and when he was older he moved back to Japan for another 5 years. Steve is a proud member of Rotary, he likes being hands on with our projects helping where he can and loves nothing more that helping at a BBQ or car parking duties at local markets. Steve owns and runs Steveit, an IT support business based in Bellbowrie St for small and medium size businesses and home users. When not working or volunteering Steve plays the bass guitar and has been a keen kayak fisherman since he was 10 years old. Steve has been a proud member of Rotary Club of Port Macquarie Sunrise since 2018 and has been quick to get involved and lend a hand. Thanks Steve!

22.01.2022 On the 11th hour on the 11th day of the 11th month we stop, to remember those who died or suffered for Australia's cause in all wars and armed conflicts. We will remember them. Lest we forget.

22.01.2022 #MemberMonday After running a business in Port Macquarie for 12 years, Pam found that her life revolved around her business, so she decided to join Rotary in 2007 to meet people and make friends. Pam now calls the members of our club her second family. When asked about her favourite memory of Rotary, Pam recalls when in 2011-2012 when she was President of our great Club, Pam became quite sick with a lung condition after only 6 months of her presidency- the membership all pul...led together and created a monthly roster of the available past presidents to cover for Pam for the last 6 months. Just another example of how our members all pull together to help each other Pam loves the concept of pay it forward and says people should join Rotary because you get so much more back than what you give. If everyone gives just a little, then the world is just so much a better place. In November 2019, Pam was instrumental in the set up and running of Farmer Joe's Pantry in the Hastings. A busy food pantry that helped farmers in rural NSW who were suffering from the drought and those affected by the fires in our region late last year. The pantry made a real difference to many families at a time they needed it most. Pam also volunteers at 4Life Care & Training a local charity whose aim is to help people in need within our community, by providing relief from poverty in the Hastings and Macleay areas. Pam moved to Australia from New Zealand in 1970, and has lived in Port Macquarie for the last 28 years. Pam used to play a lot of tennis, but since COVID, has started gardening. Pam enjoys reading and has also recently started dog/puppy sitting which just warms her heart. Pam relaxes by meditating and hopes to start doing some online yoga. Albert Einstein said "The value of a man resides in what he gives and not in what he is capable of receiving." So if we were to try and value what you give not just to Rotary but to so many others, Pam we think you are priceless.

20.01.2022 #MemberMonday Grant joined Rotary in 2017 after being invited along to a meeting by one of our members. When asked to describe his favourite memory of Rotary Grant says, it’s a feeling you get from Rotary, there is a lovely generous spirit of giving and acceptance. Looking back over the last 3 years as a member, Grant felt most proud to be a Rotarian when he saw the smile on a young man’s face when he rode the Liberty Swing in Town Beach that to me was the essence of what ...Rotary is all about. The Liberty Swing is an inclusive and accessible swing specifically designed for people in a wheelchair and our club worked with council, All Together Therapy and other local community groups to bring a Liberty Swing to Port Macquarie. Grant enjoys the social acceptance, the very warm spirit of everyone wanting to get on and do the best they can for the community. Grants says people should join Rotary because it is fun, it gives you a good feeling, you learn more about the community, you learn how important being a member of a community is because Rotary is the essence of that, we are here wanting to make our community, our world a better place. Grant says he has a natural ability to remember rubbish (his words, not ours) and this wonderful memory for trivia has led Grant to appear on several TV quiz shows including Sale of the Century, Einstein factor and Mastermind Australia. Grant now enjoys writing trivia quizzes for several trivia websites. He also enjoys reading, walking his dog, mountain bike cycling, kayaking and is member of a local choir called Blokes Notes.

15.01.2022 #MemberMonday John had been invited to join Rotary several times throughout his career, but life was just too busy at the time. Three of John’s children attended Rotary Youth Exchange Programs in Finland, France, and Hungary during their gap year after completing their HSC, and it was then that John decided he would join Rotary at some point in his life when he had more time. In 2000 joined the Rotary Club of Singleton. John speaks highly of Rotary’s Youth Exchange program an...d the opportunities it provided his children. He noted that each of his children came back from overseas and did something different from what they originally had planned to do. That year abroad allowed them to grow and understand what they wanted to do with their lives. John recalls many wonderful memories within Rotary including working with the Singleton club organising an annual event The Singleton Art Prize which is one of the largest regional art prizes in NSW and one of the most prestigious. John enjoyed the teamwork that was required to organise such an event and the wonderful socialising that comes with it. John is proud of all the community service done by Rotary and its members and he has found Rotary to be a great experience to serve others whilst socialising with like minded people at the same time. John is a retired Agricultural and Environmental Scientist who spent a lot of his career in research and education as well as being a part time beef cattle farmer. John and his wife moved to Port Macquarie from Singleton after the 2015 Dungog flood wiped out all the work John had done on his farm. After such destruction and devastation one of the really nice things that happened was that John’s entire Rotary club just turned up one day and helped John clean up his farm. This is just one example of how being a member of Rotary is like being a part of a large family. These days John relaxes by walking on the beach and pottering about in his vegetable and native plant garden. He enjoys kayaking and socialising with friends. John has almost finished writing his first book titled The Sacrificial Valley which is about how coal mining is destroying the Hunter Valley.

13.01.2022 #MemberMonday When Peter first joined Rotary in 1998 in Dubbo, his main goal was to develop more business relationships and he saw it as a great opportunity to get to know other people in business. He moved to Port Macquarie in 2012 and joined our club in January 2013. Peter had almost no knowledge of Rotary when he joined and was surprised at the size of Rotary both locally and internationally. In 2014 Peter attended a Rotary International Convention where more than 18,000... Rotary members from over 150 countries came together to experience the global reach of Rotary. Peter was amazed at so many people from such diverse backgrounds all having a common goal, it was such a powerful experience. Peter has proudly introduced several others to Rotary and has had the pleasure in watching them become enthusiastic members and contributors. Rotary means different things to different people. Some people love the community contribution, others the social connection. Some love the notion of how you are part of something that is way bigger than yourself. Rotary can provide all of that. If you get involved with Rotary, you may not know what it is going to mean to you initially, you may be surprised what you get out of Rotary. People get more out of Rotary that what they put in. Peter is one of the owners of AusSport Scoreboards which is Australia’s premiere manufacturer of LED Scoreboards and matrix LED signage based here in Port Macquarie. When not at Rotary or running a busy business, Peter, who is an electrical engineer likes to build and repair electronics. Peter, our Rotary club scored well when you decided to join us, thank you.

12.01.2022 Last Friday we had the pleasure of inducting Lynne into our club. Lynne has been a "friend" of our club for a long time, has attended many social functions and been a very active volunteer. It was wonderful to make it all official on Friday. Welcome to our Rotary family Lynne.

12.01.2022 Yesterday, Sunrise members had a guided tour of Stuart Park which has recently undergone major upgrades thanks to Port Macquarie-Hastings Council and NSW Government. Stuart Park has so much to offer including various sporting fields, under cover BBQ's and seating, fabulous children's play equipment, two fully fenced dog parks, amenities, extensive footpaths, parking and much much more. Thank you Liam Bulley and Kristy Williams from PMHC for your informative tours. We also enjoyed a wonderful breakfast organised by our vocational team, with everything sourced locally. If you have not seen Stuart Park recently we recommend you go and see how much it has to offer.

11.01.2022 #MemberMonday Vicki moved to Port Macquarie from Sydney in 2017 to spend more time with her Dad. Other than her Dad, Vicki did not know anyone in the area and Rotary had been suggested to Vicki as a way of meeting new people. After attending only, a couple of meetings Vicki quickly found that our club was a group of people I really liked. Vicki’s favourite Rotary memory comes from being involved in our community and the interaction with our community members is always so po...sitive. Vicki believes that Rotary has a good name and that our club has a reputation of being a club where its members get on really well together, they do the things that they say they are going to do and I find the club particular good because there is a good positive vibe in the club, with very little politics and everyone is on the same page with the same goal or doing something for the community, for Port Macquarie and for each other. When asked what surprised you the most about Rotary, for Vicki, she did not expect it to be as vibrant as it is. She likes that it is lateral, engaging and the people who are here are really doing their best for other people. Vicki has enjoyed all the friendships that she has formed within the club, with people whose paths may never have crossed. Vicki spent most of her working life in the book publishing and property management and is now retired. Vicki loves travelling, and enjoys cooking, movies and reading, particularly biographies. Vicki’s next book is A Diamond in the Dust. Vicki loves walking and pilates and finds them both relaxing. Just being outside makes Vicki happy and she loves everything about Port Macquarie

In 2004 Carolyn moved to Katherine NT and there she joined Katherine Rotary Club. Carolyn had another move to Darwin where she joined Darwin South Rotary Club in 2005 and in 2009 another move saw Carolyn spend a lot of time with Alice Springs Rotary Club. In 2012 after returning to Port Macquarie Carolyn became a member of our Club as she wanted to reco...nnect with the local Port Macquarie community and be with like-minded people, community spirited people. Carolyn’s favourite memories within Rotary come from moments of camaraderie where we are all of one accord, working together. Carolyn is proud to be a member of Rotary Club of Port Macquarie Sunrise, a club she believes is a fun, enthusiastic hard-working group of people. There is something special in our club and I am very proud to be a part of it. Carolyn believes joining Rotary is a way of giving back to the community in ways that you become part of a bigger whole. Carolyn says that Rotary is a believable trusted community group, and its avenues of delivery are accepted as very valuable to the community. Carolyn commented on how coming back into Port Macquarie and joining Sunrise she was met with heartfelt enthusiasm and felt so very welcomed. Carolyn’s career was in nursing as a Registered Nurse, midwifery and as a Generalist Counsellor. Carolyn has 3 children and enjoys gardening, photography and reading. Carolyn enjoys and has taught floral art, and she keeps fit by going to the gym four times a week, ocean swimming, walking and push bike riding. 09.01.2022 After weeks of much needed rain a few of our members enjoyed the wonderful late afternoon sunshine at the annual cluster BBQ. This is where all of the Rotary Clubs and Hastings Rotaract in our area get together for a wonderful meal and friendship. Thank you Rotary Club of Port Macquarie West for organising this event.

07.01.2022 Recently our club proudly presented a Paul Harris Fellow to Kelly King for significant services to Dyslexia awareness, knowledge and support Kelly was a co-founder of Dyslexia Mid North Coast in 2015 and her support for people with dyslexia has been strategic as well as extensive. She has met with politicians, school principals and health professionals to advocate for best practices. Kelly’s aim is to have school programs close the gap between teacher knowledge and actions in... the classroom and has not waned in her efforts to bring about systemic change to the way schools across the country manage and support children with dyslexia. We congratulate Kelly who in line with Rotary values, consistently puts her ‘Service Above Self.

05.01.2022 This morning our Sunrise members had the opportunity to tour the new building at Charles Sturt University Port Macquarie campus. Tony moved to Port Macquarie in 2015 where he joined the Rotary Club of Port Macquarie West before joining our club in 2018. Tony has many favourite memories of Rotary over his 28 year history, including being instrumental in creating an annual Youth Achievements Night in Strathfield which is still running today. When Tony was president of Port Macquarie ...West they successfully enticed the then Rotary International President Ian Riseley to visit Port Macquarie and last year for our club Tony helped organise a successful International Dinner with an Italian theme which was a wonderful night for all who attended as well as being a great fund raiser for our club. Tony believes people should join Rotary to help their local community, for friendship and fellowship and to put back into their own community. After 36 years working for the railways, Tony is now retired and enjoys swimming and playing golf. Tony is a big fan of wresting and the TV series M.A.S.H. Tony your Rotary resume is long and esteemed and we look forward to your next 28 years in Rotary!

02.01.2022 #MemberMonday Sherryl joined our club in 2013 as we had a lot of projects that Sherryl was interested in and was impressed with our local contribution to various projects including Tacking Point Lighthouse project, working with Mrs York’s garden and the many youth programs we are involved with. Having lived in Port Macquarie for the past 45 years, Sherryl has seen quite a few changes in our area in that time. Sherryl is a morning person so joining a morning Rotary Club has ...really suited her lifestyle. Sherryl works at Wiseberry Port Macquarie RE and has been a real estate agent for 29 years. Sherryl really enjoys the fun we have had at our large events over the years, including Big Dig Treasure Hunt which is our annual family fun day held on Town Beach, and a few years ago we hosted Beyond the Stars which was an event to support the Port Macquarie Astronomical Association in 2015. When not working or volunteering in our community , Sherryl cares for her mum and relaxes with yoga and hiking. Sherryl also loves reading and will read almost anything.

01.01.2022 #MemberMonday After working in Health for 35 years, when Jane was about to retire from full time work she wanted to connect with like minded people, volunteer and give back to our community and to network with different people. Lunch with a friend led to an introduction to a Sunrise member which quickly led to an invitation to breakfast. From the very first breakfast Jane felt welcomed. After 3 trips to Nepal Jane is aware of the Nepalese culture and was impressed with our ...clubs connection with Nepal and the work we have been doing since 2001. Jane was surprised at the number of activities Rotary is involved in, not just within club but also the mid-north coast, NSW, Australia and world wide. Currently, Jane is a researcher at Charles Sturt University Port Macquarie in Community Health and Wellbeing and an adjunct Senior Lecturer. Jane is on the Economic Steering committee at Port Macquarie-Hastings Council and is also active on several boards. Jane enjoys riding and is pictured here with Billy. Jane has been riding and competing since she was 8. Jane also loves gardening, and keeping fit and active. Jane has enjoyed being involved with Can Too Run and Swim and has recently welcomed William, a cavoodle puppy into her home. Thank you for all that you do Jane, not just within our club but our whole community at large.
