05.01.2022 What happens when insufficient surface preparation is applied , lack of product knowledge or combination of both. This days water based enamels are the new rage , easy to apply , not smelling , easy to clean ect . But correct surface preparation is a must , mind you this job was done by a carpenter , he repaired the door and thought , hey I can paint it to , we dont need a painter how hard cant it be ? , how hard cant it be right ?, you guess it right now cost twice ...as much to fix as if you hired a painter to begin with. Problems Door was not sanded Door wasnt primed or sealed to allow transition from oil based paint to water based Water based enamel dont stick to previously oil based painted surfaces. Solution Remove all water based paint Sand Door and apply 2 x coats of a primer sealer undercoat 2x coats of your favourite water based enamel Now it wont come off let alone peel off in sheets Hire a painter for painting jobs , or it will cost you twice as much is the lesson here . Almost anyone can apply paint to a surface , thats not the issue , like said many times before you need to have knowledge of the surfaces to be painted and the type on paints to apply , including the how to to each scenario
