19.01.2022 An estimated 3 million people could be affected by the upcoming superannuation changes - which could lead to a loss of their insurance money. Those with an inactive account are urged to contact their super holder and "opt in" to the new scheme, if they want to keep the cash. People with low balance accounts - containing less than $6,000 - people from a migrant background, people who are hard to get in touch with, such as those living remotely, are travelling, or have moved ho...use, or people on extended sick or paternity leave will also be affected by the shake-up. 07.01.2022 Scammers are developing new and creative ways of tricking us into giving them our money and personal details. Individuals are receiving emails and text messages that look like they are from myGov and The Department of Human Services asking you to update your Electronic Funds Transfer details to ensure you start receiving payments and benefits from Medicare. PLEASE DO NOT CLICK ON ANY LINKS AND DELETE THE EMAIL!... Scammers are sending emails with fraudulent links that take you to a replica of the real myGov website that looks legitimate with myGov and Medicare logos and branding but trick you into disclosing your login, passwords, personal and bank details. How to tell it's a fake? 1. The URL includes ‘.net’ instead of ‘.gov.au’ or includes digits ie. 10.54.36.11 Any official government website in Australia always containes a '.gov.au' domain, anything different suggests it's not legitimate. Hover your mouse over any link to doublecheck the correct domain name 2. The email/SMS contains a link to a website. The Department of Human Services does not send emails with live links. 3. The web address does not contain a padlock symbol. Australian Government websites have a padlock symbol in the top left hand corner in the web address bar.

02.01.2022 Interesting article in yesterday's Age.... Six million Aussies claimed a whopping $1.5 billion in clothing deductions last year a figure that would mean one in two taxpayers must wear specific uniforms or protective gear to work. There are strict rules for getting a tax write-off for work clothes. It has to be occupation-specific clothing, such as a chef's outfit, or protective, like steel-capped boots... You must have also spent the money (or done or paid for the laundry) yourself and not have been reimbursed at work. Despite these rules, the Tax Office says data suggests Australians are getting overexcited when it comes to doing their tax returns.... https://www.theage.com.au//tax-office-wants-the-truth-on-w
