19.01.2022 ****************COUNTRY CUPS**************** PORT MACQUARIE Located a 3 hour drive north of Newcastle is the beautiful seaside town of Port Macquarie, a...n ideal coastal destination due to its extensive beaches and waterways to enjoy. But what Port Macquarie is most known for is Koalas due to it having the highest population of the animal on the East Coast as well as housing the famous Koala Hospital. You could also take the family and meet plenty of other animals at the Billabong Zoo: Koala and Wildlife Park. Or you can either head out and explore the natural beauty in the rainforests and national parks, taste the best wine on offer from the Hastings River wine region or sit down and relax enjoying award winning restaurants. A town with plenty to offer throughout the year with the various events the town holds like the Tasting on Hastings, Festival of the Sun and the Hello Koalas Festival just to name a few. Port Macquarie has been the home to author George Louis Becke, country musician Aleyce Simmonds, three time world bodyboarding champion Damian King, union star Nick Cummins, Olympian James Magnussen and two time Paralympic gold medalist Ryley Batt. Even though the town hosts numerous events throughout think the locals love nothing more than dressing up and watching Port Macquarie Cup Day. This year we won’t see the usual crowd packed in but still looks a phenomenal day to enjoy trackside or at home with the feature 2,000m Port Macquarie Cup (200k) jumping at 5:10pm. Top weight #Sikandarabad looks tough to beat for Sam Kavanagh after running second to G1 The Metro second place getter Mugatoo two back in the G3 Premiers Cup, plus maps well from 6 just off the leaders. Chris Waller has 3 accepted at the moment but will more than likely saddle up the two with Lee Magorrian engage on both #AcrossDubai and Listed Rowley Mile winner #Savacool. His other being #Mantastic who has been based in Victoria this prep with Waller hoping a change of scenery back up north kicks him back into form. The Waterhouse & Bott team will defend the Cup with a duo of hopefuls, last start winner and leader #Entente who drew the perfect barrier in 1 to push forward with arguably the best front running hoop and usual partner in crime Tim Clark (8:3-0-3), ridden him in 8 of 9 starts. Their other chance is an interesting prospect in international raider #KnightsOrder, the So You Think gelding will be having his first start in Australia off 4 trials and built a great record around this distance (7:4-0-1) in Europe including winning his last start by 0.8L. The top 4 from the Port Macquarie Prelude make the trip here but only see George Woodward’s #Tom’sKnight making any noise after demolishing that field by 4.5L, faces a much stiffer competition here but wouldn’t rule out the place. 12.01.2022 *** UPDATE *** Racing has been postponed but we will still be holding a Phantom meeting with FREE entry. If you have pre-purcahsed please contact the Club on Monday for a full refund! Racing tomorrow for our annual New Years Day Races.... Table Bookings are now closed but entry tickets will be available at the gate for outdoor areas only. All patrons will be required to check in with QR code at the gates. Please if you reside on the Northern Beaches or have visited there or any hotspot area, do not attend. ID will be required upon entry. Gates open at 12 noon first of 6 races is at 1.35pm. Even though restrictions have eased it is important that good hygiene and social distancing are still maintained.
