24.01.2022 Lovely day at Clifton in the waves great effort team Portsie

23.01.2022 We reached another major milestone in our redevelopment project this morning, with the pouring of our roof slab. It was great to see the local Portsy team from Tas Coastal Concreting on site bright and early to add their skilled touch to the project. The team at the Oliver Kelly Group will now start putting the finishing touches to our new home ... Though the project is primarily about expanding our change facilities for our growing membership, it has the added benefit of providing an amazing deck area for events such as our popular annual summer markets. We can't wait to welcome our community to explore the new facilities! Watch this space for announcements about the official opening!

23.01.2022 If you're in need of anything for the pool or surf, today would be a great day to visit the Engine pop-up shop at Port Sorell. Our friends at DC Watercraft have everything ENGINE; backpacks, deck parkas, track pants, googles, etc. available at 20 Bretecca Close, Port Sorell until 4pm today!

23.01.2022 Our regular surf ski training group just keeps growing and growing! The first weekend of spring brought 13 people out for a training session led by our ski coach, Dave Dowling. Better still, we welcomed members from Devonport Surf Life Saving Club and Burnie Surf Life Saving Club to train with us.... Our clubs are rivals in competition on only a few weekends each year; the rest of the year we love to train and work together as part of the much wider surf lifesaving family

21.01.2022 Did you know that Australia's surf lifesavers volunteer more than 16 million hours of their time to help keep their communities safe on our beaches? Port Sorell SLSC's own volunteers spent more than 1400 hours patrolling our beaches last summer, as well as providing a 24/7 emergency response capability outside of those hours. We estimate that our volunteers spend more than double that number of hours in training, running our Nipper programs and arranging dozens of community e...vents and functions. Surf Life Saving Australia’s (SLSA) services to the community and its members are valued at an estimated $6.5 billion per year to the Australian economy. The new report by Deloitte Access Economics shows The services and cooperation of Surf Life Saving Australia (SLSA) around the country both now and in the future show for every $1 invested into SLSA, a return of $20 is achieved. https://sls.com.au/about-us/our-value/

21.01.2022 ***POSTPONED*** Due to unforeseen circumstances, it has been necessary to postpone this event. We hope to reschedule for later in the season, so please look out for update details. Talented Magician Gareth Bell will rove the tables and leave you scratching your head in amazement. Food & Entertainment is only $25pp! There are only 40 tickets available, so book your tables asap!

21.01.2022 Our volunteer surf lifesavers were back in action on the water this weekend, with 9 of our patrol members training to crew our Inflatable Rescue Boats (IRBs). Their course was cut short by COVID at the end of last season, but the course resumed this weekend and will be completed in a few weeks. The new crew members will join our volunteer teams that patrol at the northern end of Freers Beach commencing on 5th December. ... Our emergency response teams are available 24/7 to respond to emergencies on our waterways.

18.01.2022 Psssst! Want a sneak peek at our new facilities? Our builders, Oliver Kelly Group, are putting the finishing touches on our new _enormous_ change facilities. ... Those who have squeezed into our old change rooms will understand why we’re so excited for them to be finished, especially given our growing membership. For our community, we’re thrilled to be able to provide public facilities adjacent to Pirate Park, including an accessible shower and toilet.

18.01.2022 Why not make the most of the no-show public holiday with a visit to beautiful Freers Beach and our community’s surf club? The club will be open upstairs from 5pm and the bar is stocked with a wide range of wines, beers and soft drinks. Support our local food retailers by grabbing some take-away and enjoying it on the beach, or on our balcony overlooking the water.... George and Dave's Shearwater food co

18.01.2022 This morning at nippers training, some of our U12-U13 nippers took place in a surf smart lesson and learnt about the human body and how it works, and why it is important to look after our bodies. Big thanks to Ian Forbes for taking this session with our nippers!

15.01.2022 We wish Lachie and Cooper the best this week at the Development Camp. We are excited to hear about what they have learnt and have them share their experiences with our Club.

14.01.2022 Surf Life Saving volunteers from across the North West had their skills and training put to the test this afternoon when they responded to a simulated aviation incident near Wrights Island, just north of Devonport Airport. Emergency Response Team (ERT) members from Port Sorell Surf Life Saving Club, Devonport Surf Life Saving Club and Ulverstone Surf Life Saving Club were scrambled by the Surf Life Saving Tasmania Duty Officer to respond to reports of a light aircraft which h...ad crashed in waters offshore. Strong wind and choppy seas presented challenging search conditions for the Inflatable Rescue Boat crews as they searched for casualties in the water and on the nearby islands. ERT members responded from their homes to their respective surf clubs to collect boats and equipment, before heading to Moreland Beach. The exercise was deliberately staged between Devonport and Port Sorell surf clubs to test the response times and the operational response to the incident. Despite the distances involved, the first IRBs were on scene a little over 30 minutes from the first notification and located all casualties from a search area of almost 4 square kilometres within 45 minutes. As part of a culture of continuous improvement, lessons learned from the exercise will be used to review and refine our Standard Operating Procedures for the coming surf patrol season. Emergency Response Team members are on-call 24/7 to respond to incidents on our waterways, and to support emergency responses across Tasmania. #rescueready365 #practicemakesperfect #emergencyvolunteers #emergencyresponseteam #surfrescue.

13.01.2022 Some of you might be wondering where our newsletter is . The newsletter will appear at some point, hopefully soon, but, in case it takes a while, don't forget our Registration Day at the club tomorrow - 10am until 2pm!

Our surf lifesaving volunteers launched one of the club’s Inflatable Rescue Boats within 10 minutes of being activated by Surf Life Saving Tasmania’s Duty Officer.... Our IRB team, brothers Jesse and Ross Beveridge, were able to tow the stricken 5 metre fishing boat and its relieved occupants four kilometres back to the Port Sorell boat ramp. : Ross Beveridge #rescueready365 #emergencyvolunteers
