23.01.2022 RE: SUSPENSION OF ALL OPERATIONS EFFECTIVE IMMEDIATELY To our beloved members, PAC COMMITTEE regret to inform you all, that as a result of the increased and heightened risk involved with the spread of COVID-19 (novel coronavirus), and based on the advice of many medical and government bodies, We are taking the unprecedented action of suspending all operations effective immediately: ... A FULL AND TOTAL SHUTDOWN OF ALL MEETINGS , COMPETITIONS ASSOCIATED WITH OUR ANGLING CLUB. Despite having absolutely no suspected cases of COVID-19 amongst our members to date, this is in no way a rushed or impulse decision, nor one which has been made lightly. The health, safety and well-being of all our members and extended community both at and away from our club, is and always has been our absolute priority. Based on the very nature of our meetings and competitions, PAC cannot ignore the potential and heightened risk of COVID-19 spreading as a direct result of our activities. The thought of being responsible for an outbreak in a situation that could have been completely preventable is something which is in total conflict of our own ethics. Both Federal and State governments have stated that we are in ‘unchartered waters’ and that this is an ‘ever-developing, ever-evolving situation’. The scaling up by the World Health Organisation (WHO) of COVID-19 from an ‘epidemic’ to now a ‘pandemic’ has significant ramifications and carries a far greater weight of consciousness and accountability. Alarmingly however, we have not yet seen the ‘spike’ that other parts of the world have encountered. The government is doing all they can to minimise the effects of a blow-out, so we also encourage colleagues and other organisations to consider similar action amongst their own communities. Whilst some may undermine the seriousness of this and claim an overreaction or ‘hype-up’ by the media, sources very close to the DHHS have indicated that the situation and future implications are in fact far more serious that what is being made out by the media. We @ PAC encourage everyone to exercise absolute caution in whatever environment they may find themselves in and to stay well informed with developments over the coming weeks. I further encourage everyone to seek and consider information only from our State’s official health body: https://www.dhhs.vic.gov.au/coronavirus Hopefully our proactive approach to this situation will assist in suppressing the further spread of COVID-19. We would like to take this opportunity to thank all our members and families for their understanding and support. It is an absolutely deflating and somewhat devastating overtone to conclude with for now, but I have no doubt we will be back in action soon. Yours Sincerely, PAC committee
