This book comes highly recommended by our director Emma Foy, and psychologist Fiona Henrich for people struggling with depression and anxiety. Unfortunately our supplier is out of stock and our next delivery could be a few weeks a way. If you'd like me to reserve the last copy for you please call 9437 7951. It won't last long! - Megan

18.01.2022 Smart phones and social media has made it quite difficult for children to escape a schoolyard bully. Nasty comments, photos taken without consent and fake Facebook profiles are all too common nowadays and can be affecting your child's self esteem and academic performance. So as a parent, what can you do? Sign up - If you allow your child to have a social media account it may be a good idea to also have an account to monitor what they post and see who they're friends with. Yo...u can block bullies from seeing your child's account and posts. Tell the school and demand action - Your child has the right to feel safe and your school should have a zero tolerance policy on bullying. Talk to your child's teacher or student co coordinator and ensure sufficient action is taken where possible. Seeking help for your child to improve his/her social skills - A child who has been bullied can be at greater risk than others of being bullied again (even when the first bully has been dealt with). Children who have been bullied can benefit greatly from additional help, including debriefing about the bullying, and, in particular, making sure they have the social and assertiveness skills necessary to function effectively at school. Unlike the aggression that underlies bullying, assertive behaviour does not depreciate or cause harm. Rather, assertiveness is a healthy way of dening personal boundaries. These skills fortify young people with lifelong skills for maintaining healthy boundaries and protecting themselves from aggressive peer behaviour. If your child is needing some extra support dealing with bullies we have experienced and qualified child psychologists who can help.
17.01.2022 Most children are afraid of the dark and fear monsters under the bed. But 10 percent of children have excessive fears or worries like phobias, separation anxiety, panic attacks, social anxiety, or obsessive-compulsive disorder that can hold them back and keep them from fully enjoying childhood. If your child suffers from any of these forms of anxiety, the programs in this book offers practical and scientifically proven tools that can help. This book comes highly recommended by our Senior Psychologist and Director, Emma Foy. Helping Your Anxious Child can be purchased here at the practice for only $26.95 (RRP: $42.00) - While stocks last!
17.01.2022 DEPRESSION: The experience of depression may be very different from one person to the next, depending on the type of depression the person has, and their personality and coping styles. Many of the signs of depression would be clearly evident in a person who has depression. For others it may not be, as depression can often lead the person to withdraw from social contact or to hide their real feelings from those around them. Generally speaking, someone who is depressed would:... have a low mood be pessimistic have lowered self-esteem feel hopeless and helpless. In some types of depression, individuals may: physically slow down (walk and talk more slowly OR become agitated and unable to sit still) find it difficult to get up in the morning find it difficult to initiate even basic activities like showering or dressing You are not alone, and there is help available. There are a wide range of psychological treatments for depression which our psychologists specialise in. If you think you may have depression, there is a helpful self test tool on the black dog website (link below). You may print your results and bring it into your first appointment.

10.01.2022 What an incredibly thoughtful person...RIP, Stephen Hawking
09.01.2022 Young people experiencing their first onset of depression are more at risk of relapse and recurrence. There is evidence from longitudinal studies suggesting that intervening at the first episode of depression, may be crucial in halting the development of recurrent episodes, and may stop physical changes in the brain.
