24.01.2022 Big Idea #10 - There is No 'THE' Way Today marks Big Idea #10 in this series extracting the best ideas I gained from participating in a coach training program that went for the better part of 2020. Thank you for following with me to this point! Today's Big Idea #10 - There is No THE Way, was inspired from listening to a summary of Nietzsche’s book, Thus Spoke Zarathustra. Now I thought I had a reasonably good education through school and university. After returning from my y...Continue reading

22.01.2022 I hope you are staying well in these changing times. If you are experiencing anxiety, stress or distress of any sort - to do with COVID-19 or not - CURRENTLY all sessions with a psychologist (in Australia) that are referred by a GP (for a Mental Health Treatment Plan) and conducted by telehealth (phone or video) are to be BULK BILLED. As with many things at the moment, this may change, but that is how it is currently (as at 3/4/20 - started on Monday 31/3/20). ... 21.01.2022 I hope you, your family, friends, neighbours, colleagues and staff are staying well at this rather strange time. As a local PSYCHOLOGIST, based in Ormiston, I thought I would share some information and resources that may be of use to those of you who are experiencing stress and anxiety during this time of uncertainty. Below is a tip sheet on Coping with Coronavirus Anxiety prepared by the Australian Psychological Society: ... https://www.psychology.org.au//20APS-IS-COVID-19-Public-P2 You may also be interested to hear that the government announced that as from Monday 30 March to 30 September ALL Australians ELIGIBLE to receive services under Medicare will be able to ACCESS TO BULK-BILLED PSYCHOLOGICAL SERVICES delivered VIA TELEHEALTH (i.e., videoconference or phone) if clinically appropriate. If you require support during this time of uncertainty, please feel free to reach out. Positive Psychology Strategies is still open and is here to support you through the challenges you may be experiencing. Phone or text: 0410 264 224 I will continue to share resources that you may find of use as we face these changing and unprecedented times. Stay well and support each other. At the moment, the world needs a lot more love - start with the people in your immediate world.

20.01.2022 Hi there - I hope you are doing ok in these rather unusual 'iso' times. At times like these, I like to share resources that might help you (why re-create the wheel). You'll see below a series of four videos (5-12mins each) with suggestions for how best to handle difficult times. These have been prepared by my coach, who I've known over a decade now. Hes had 35 years dealing with tough situations, working with govt departments, the big end of town type companies, and also he...lped out during the Canberra bush fires in 2003. He created these videos as his contribution to help out his fellow Aussies cope with the challenges that covid is bringing up for people. As such, there is no registration, opt in or give us your details. Just click on the videos and get ready for some good info to help you - or that may help you help someone who is struggling with the changes brought about by covid. As a registered psychologist, Im familiar with the techniques and processes discussed in the videos. If you know anyone who could use some free help, kindly pass on these videos to them and reach out if I can assist in anyway. FYI I you have a mental health treatment plan and have a referral by your GP, while covid restrictions are in place, I'll be bulk billing. Wishing you all the best. Stay well.

04.01.2022 Big Idea #9 - Oscillate with the natural rhythms of our body Have you noticed that it can be super easy to just get super busy going from one thing to the next? While we are busy doing one thing, we can often be busy thinking of what's just been happening or mentally planning ahead for the next task we've got to do. Momentum can be such a great thing for getting things done. In fact, I’m a big fan of getting momentum working for us! However, did you know that there can be a ...downside to momentum? For many of us, all that busyness ... is done sitting at a desk. Going from one desk-based task to the next: email, report, phone call, video call, research (surfing the internet), social media, and the list goes on! Well, researchers are calling sitting (being sedentary for much of the day) the new smoking - it is that bad for our health!! So all that momentum in getting things done can mean we don't get up from our desk for hours at a time. Repeated day after day, that's a disaster for our health and our waistline not to mention our relationships with our loved ones under the same roof as us! Now our bodies weren’t designed for extended sitting and certainly not sitting at a desk! We were designed for moving. Our bodies in many ways move in sync with nature. We have our circadian rhythm - a 24hr cycle that means we’d do well to rise with the sun and head to bed when it sets. That would mean more sleep! After studying and working with top athletes including Roger Federer, Usain Bolt, and Lebron James, neuroscientist and sleep researcher, Matthew Walker concluded that "Sleep is probably the greatest legal enhancing performance drug that few athletes are abusing enough"! If it’s good enough for them, I’ll do what they’re doing! Nested within our 24hr cycle, we have other smaller rhythms that also encourage more movement breaks within our waking day. Check out the short video for a little more on two other rhythms we’d do well to make use of to improve our health, productivity, and focus. To create better habits - break bad habits or start new habits it’s good if we start working with our natural cycles that is oscillating with our body’s natural ebb and flow of energy. Big Idea #9 - Oscillate with the natural rhythms of our body. Pop a comment under the video with which cycle you do well and which you could work on to improve. We are human beings not human doings! We have a body. We need to honour our body and move it to get the best out of it - and our mind. Best yet, move your body in line with its natural rhythms! Happy moving in time with nature's rhythms :) Patrea #MyOptimizeBigIdeas #MyOptimizeTop10 #OptimizedWisdomDistilled #CoachPatrea #PatreaODonoghue #OptimizedCoach #PositivePsychologyStrategies #PatreaPsychologist
