25.01.2022 Introducing the new website! http://www.positiveconnections.com.au

22.01.2022 Pixar Movie "Inside Out" is probably one of the most emotionally intelligent animation Ive seen! A fantastic movie I believe for children (and adults) of all ages which has a lot of potential conversation starters. Parents can talk about how feelings can guide us to make good or bad decisions and highlights how they are all valuable and we shouldnt try to ignore them. A movie definitely worth seeing. https://www.parentmap.com//inside-out-pixar-does-it-again-

21.01.2022 The highs and lows of methamphetamines. Its destroying many lives, children are being taken away from their families, relationships coming to an end and leaving people in financial ruin. Is it really worth it? Putting these families back together again is no easy feat but counselling may be your first step in getting help. ... http://www.abc.net.au//feat/stories/2015/05/14/4235778.htm

19.01.2022 Isnt this such an impacting illustration of how powerful words are! As parents our words and our actions play a significant role in developing and shaping a ch...ilds brain, self-esteem and how effective they function in the world. If you are not operating at your best, this will no doubt adversely affect your child. But remember we can only do the best we can with what weve got so Im definitely not trying to put a guilt trip on you. Its definitely a hard gig! All Im saying is, if you are aware that there are gaps in your parenting, seek support where needed and make informed decisions on how your want to parent your child. Prevention is so much better than trying to heal a damaged soul.

19.01.2022 Love this illustration on Empathy vs Sympathy. The video is available for your viewing pleasure at https://vimeo.com/81492863

19.01.2022 We are a society that burns the candle at both ends juggling work, family, study and recreation. Did you know that the research indicates that as adults we need between 7.5 and 9 hours sleep each night? Having said that, people vary and some do well on 4-5 hours sleep, others need 9-10. Whatever your individual need is, a lack of sleep quality can have compromising effects on the body that include; - poor attention, concentration & memory - irritability & mood disturbances... - impaired judgement & reaction time - depression & anxiety - compromised adrenal & immune systems - weight gain/weight loss - high blood pressure & diabetes - early mortality In fact going without sleep is like going without food. An occasional night without sleep quality makes you feel tired and irritable the following day but several sleepless nights lead to a sleep deficit. Sleep is vital in restoring the cells of the body that have been working throughout the day. Sleep organises thoughts & brain content Sleep repairs and regenerates tissues and muscles Sleep releases hormones regulating growth & appetite. Avoid lifes competing demands by making sure you are getting the restorative sleep your body needs. Some hints may be; - a regular sleep routine - limiting or even avoiding caffeine if you can ( Im personally still working on that one!) - avoid energy drinks to boost your energy - try relaxation exercises - read a book - massage oil with lavender ( my personal favourite into the base of the feet) If you are experiencing a sleep deficit try the above ideas and by going to bed at least 30 minutes earlier each night to work toward making up for what your body is lacking. If you are not functioning at your best, how effective will you be to those around you? Image by #PushpThapa #Dreamcatcher

17.01.2022 I love the new hope and potential opportunities that a New Year brings. Happy New Year everyone!

14.01.2022 I confess that Im guilty of some of these parenting faux pas with a heart that only wants the best for my children. In the end it really does come down to what works well for your individual child making sure that its congruent with your current family values as opposed to what was generationally passed down... And often that can be a work in progress as we move away from limiting core beliefs or a default setting because lets face it- thats just the way its always been done. I believe in order to make positive and beneficial changes to our lives and the future generations, the more we read, the more informed we become about our decisions. By then putting desired behaviours into practise, eventually we create a new default setting. #neuroscience #neuroplasticity http://brightside.me//seven-parenting-behaviours-which-st/

12.01.2022 Death by suicide has reached a ten year peak in Australia. It is one of the leading causes of death for people aged 15 to 44 and the tenth leading cause of deat...h overall. It is estimated that as many as 200 people per day attempt to give up their desire to live. A staggering 3 out of every 5 deaths in men is by suicide (Australian Bureau of Statistics 2013). Often feeling a diminished sense of belonging, perceiving themselves to be a burden to loved ones they acquire the capability to enact lethal self-injury. Often an impulse decision but research is showing that more and more are planned in advance. Lets not ever be too busy to offer a random act of kindness, a simple gesture that may mean more to someone than you really know. If you are struggling, please reach out. Our thoughts and behaviours are influenced by a complex web of circumstances and pre-existing factors. Professionals train for several years to support in the journey of making sense of and untangling the webs that often entangle and overwhelm. 06.01.2022 Perspective "The appearance of things relative to one another as determined by the viewer". Have you heard about the story of the baby elephant held captive by a rope attached to a secure pole? The baby elephant naturally tries to free itself but is stopped by the rope. As time goes on it eventually gives up resisting the rope and lives out its life not realising its true potential -That it has indeed acquired enough strength to break free from the rope. In fact a mere rope a...round the neck is enough to keep an elephant in place because they have been conditioned all their life by a limiting belief, "a cant do attitude". Like many of us, we reach a conclusion that a change of circumstance is unattainable. Like the tamed elephant, ones scope of life and potential becomes confined and determined by past experiences. However, if we choose to see a perspective through a different lens, we may be able to grasp the gravity and fullness of what truly lies ahead.. Conceive a new future..
