11.01.2022 90% of serotonin (your brains happy chemical) is produced in the gut. Therefore to improve your mental health you must first improve your gut health. No amount cognitive therapy or positive thinking will outweigh your physiology How do you know if your gut health needs improvement?... Well it's actually a bit of a shitty subject to talk about If your number 2's are either dry or runny. If your number 2's are inconsistent both in frequency or consistency. Your gut health is likely good if your is long and smooth and comes out twice a day. Bare minimum once a day if you're a small eater. What can you do to improve your gut health? Focus on your sleep. (a whole other topic but you need a good sleep to maximise gut health). Reduce stress or improve your response to lifes stressors. Things like meditation, journaling and regularly making time for the things you love is great here. Find food intolerances and eliminate them. The most common ones are things like gluten, lactose & eggs. You can simply eliminate any of these you eat regularly and see if it helps. You may be able re-introduce some of these as your gut health improves. Reduce your intake of things like sugar, alcohol, caffeine. Increase intake of anti-inflammatory things like tumeric, omega 3, good quality food (choosing wherever possible grass fed, free range & organic). Supplement with things like: high quality omega 3, glutamine, quality magnesium, gut right (get the flavoured variety - original literally tastes like ) Hope that helps
