25.01.2022 How do you speak to yourself? With a critical or compassionate voice? If you are berating yourself for your failures, your past mistakes and your inadequacies, you are not alone! Whilst your mind defaults to trying to make sure you learn from your mistakes and work at being better - it can take a negative approach. If this is you, how is that working for you so far? Self-compassion involves treating yourself better, talking to yourself kindly, forgiving yourself, honourin...g your humanity. If this is something you would like to start exploring you are welcome to join my new pop up group starting on the 25th May for one week only. You will be given some prompts, practical strategies and tips over the 5 days, as well as the support inside the pop up Facebook group.

21.01.2022 DIGITAL DETOX Managing the impact of technology in your life is an ongoing problem for the majority of people. Especially when the isolation enforced by COVID h...as made technology a life line. A little while ago(pre-COVID) I did a full digital detox for three days. Leading up to this I was aware that I was spending too much time on the internet and social media. I was starting to feel the burden of having to (wanting to) be responsive and across what was happening. So, I started taking small digital detox steps such as unsubscribing from many things, looking at the value of belonging to certain groups, being aware of the urgency. Then I unplugged completely. So how was it? It was so incredibly easy. I know, I was surprised too. Suddenly I had all this quiet. Whilst other people I was with were busy on the laptops, I wasn't.... The number one thing I noticed. The internet is incredibly noisy. You have all the voices of the people who are posting in your head. And you have snippets of all these voices and ideas. This sometimes does not leave enough room for your own inner voice. Without social media I noticed the calm, the quiet. Now, I know that this is not always easy, distraction is one of the reasons people embrace an online life. It is easier to keep our minds 'busy' and it can be confronting to know what to do with all that quiet. But if you want to feel whole, if you want to discover what is really important to you, that rest, that disruption is crucial. I’m looking forward to another digital detox shortly and have begun preparing for it already. If this is something you need I would love you to experience the benefits yourself. To help you do this I have created the 7 Step Digital Detox Program. You can find more about it here - https://positiveyoungminds.vipmembervault.com//cou/view/23.

19.01.2022 Good morning, If you're on my email list look out for it - its just been sent. It's a little late, sorry. If you're not, I thought you might like a sneak pee...k at what I sometimes send. This week I've been swept up with cows and sheep. I talked about them on my podcast and in the newsletter, as you will see below. I love a metaphor because they stick in your mind and pack a punch. So, this is from my newsletter. "Imagine you're in a paddock surrounded by sheep. Lovely, fluffy and soft. You look up and all of a sudden there's a big fat, energy zapping cow looking at you (apologies to cows, but it's just a metaphor, you can replace it with another animal if you like, similarly if you have sheep, replace them with an animal you love). How the heck did that get there? You, you let it in. There was a hole in your boundary fence. It's interesting that if someone was to keep taking our money, we would be able to recognise a pattern. But what about if they are taking your time, your ideas, your inspiration, and your energy? Your one thing? Check in. Who or what is draining you? Let it go. Say no. Fix that hole in your fence. Or before you know it, you'll have a whole heap/herd of fat, energy zapping cows all around you." I challenge you to go through your whole day now and not think about cows.... ps I know that working on boundaries is not as easy as it sounds. If you'd like some help send me a message :).

10.01.2022 Today is International Day of Happiness. The fact that the United Nations created this day was a reflection of how important happiness is. You can sometimes th...ink that happiness is a frivolous emotion when surrounded by anxiety. However, happiness and other positive emotions, act as motivators that increase your chance of survival. When you enjoy doing something you want to do it again. For example, if you find an exercise you enjoy you will do more of it. This in turn is good for your physical and mental health. In contrast when you are sad or depressed you are unmotivated to do anything. This reduces your productivity, increases isolation and loneliness and can lead you into a negative spiral. Cultivating positive emotions, like happiness, is not a frivolous task, it is essential for your mental and physical health. If you want to know more about how to be happy when you are anxious subscribe to Creating Connections that Matter podcast where this is the topic that will be released today.
